Chapter 696: Pyramid

Lola smiled in satisfaction, glancing at the couch where Atlas was napping. Pleased, she turned to the board and pinned the one he had been pinning earlier. But instead of casually putting everything up, she took a few steps back and studied the board.

Yuri’s investigation had started when she was looking into Lola.

That led Yuri to dig further, which eventually brought her to another country. Atlas had already accessed the files detailing which organizations and groups Yuri had ended up investigating, according to the board.

Lola crossed her arms under her chest, biting her lip slightly.

"There’s also Ravah on her list," she whispered. "She wouldn’t have been able to get in there that easily, but she still had information about it."

Mostly because of the underground trades in Ravah. However, some of the information Yuri had on Ravah would have most likely helped them with their mission, had they uncovered it earlier.

"If Yuri didn’t disappear, I’m sure she was already planning to infiltrate Ravah," she told herself. "But..."

Just like Yuri, who had thought so far ahead, something had happened that even she didn’t expect.

That was Henrik Bellemonte going to Atlas for help. As a result, Ravah was now under the Order’s control. Even the illegal dealings in the territory had been dealt with. That was the first thing Atlas had done, after all.

"Maybe..." she trailed off, glancing over her shoulder at Atlas. "He’s right."

Their enemies — whoever they were — only wanted to make it look like they were a hundred steps ahead of them. But in reality, the biggest gap they could create from Atlas was a single step. That was it.

Slowly, she turned back to the board.

With Yuri alone in the Order, Atlas surely believed they would approach carefully.

"But why?" she asked herself again, narrowing her eyes as her mind returned to Slater’s words back in Ravah.

[My brother thinks someone wanted him dead in the previous life, and then in this one too. He just didn’t know why.]

It wasn’t like Lola had forgotten that. In fact, those words kept circling in her head, and somehow, even with Yuri’s situation and those pills being distributed by Vito, they remained ever-present.

If I’m thinking this way, I’m sure Atlas is thinking the same.

Her lips pressed into a thin line, her expression stern. After a moment, she sighed and turned to the table. She didn’t sit, though, and began going through the files Yuri had compiled.

For the next hour, Lola analyzed and studied the files, checking their timestamps carefully. But an hour and a half in, her brows knitted.

"Hang on..." she muttered. "These files were disorganized, and everyone agreed Yuri did that in case someone else found them."

That idea had come from the timestamps not matching the information. If they followed the timestamps, everything became confusing. So they had been arranging the data in a more digestible way. They all believed Yuri had been trying to buy time if someone else discovered them.

"But if not for Slater, no one would’ve discovered this," she muttered. "And who would even do that within the Order’s territory?"

Even if they suspected there was a mole — or several — in the Order, even Atlas didn’t know what Yuri had been up to. Not even Allen or Sybil.

In hindsight, Yuri had handled many international cases that were nearly impossible to solve.

She liked puzzles, and it was why she had been withering away in the academy, stuck with menial work.

"Huh." Lola lifted her hands from the keyboard in surrender, her eyes drifting to the USB drives on the side. "It’s worth a try... I guess?"

She moved her chair back and faced the USB drives quietly. Before starting, she searched for Yuri’s recording again and played it in the background, listening through one earphone.

With Yuri’s voice in her ear, Lola picked up the drives and began fitting them together like puzzle pieces. At the back of her mind, she knew she could just be wasting time instead of finishing the board. But if her intuition was right, this might speed up their investigation.

After several minutes — just as Yuri’s recording ended — Lola finished putting the drives together.

Each drive had different sizes and designs, and if Lola was correct, while Yuri had been recording, she had been doing something else. Sure, Yuri had shown them a drive in a ziplock bag, but after that, while she was talking, there had been a faint sound in the background — like she was placing something into position.

Lola tapped the USB drive lightly, producing the same faint sound she had heard in the recording. Turning back to the laptop, she replayed it and finally caught Yuri raising a hand, a flash drive briefly visible.

Intentional or not, Yuri had been putting these pieces together while explaining the situation.

"Let’s see," Lola hummed, picking up the first piece and checking what was inside.

Just as she expected, it contained Yuri’s recording — the one they had all watched. Nothing else. So Lola set it aside and picked up the next piece, checking its contents.

They already had the files compiled, but that also meant she wouldn’t know which files had originally been on each flash drive. So she went through them one by one, checking the contents of the second, then the third, and so on.

She worked in cycles, taking key information that had already been printed out and rearranging the board accordingly.

Another hour later, Lola picked up a pin and placed another piece onto the pyramid she had formed. Taking a slow step back, she looked at the board she had completely redone. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Holy shit," she whispered. "It’s really a pyramid."

Her eyes widened slightly as she held her breath. As she stared at the board, a faint knock echoed at the door before it opened.

"I’m still so sleepy..." Slater muttered, rubbing his eye as he dragged himself in. Behind him were Allen and Hugo, their hair still damp from a shower.

The trio paused when they saw Lola standing in front of the board. Then they noticed Atlas on the couch, moving awake.

Atlas frowned slightly as he pushed himself up. Without a word, he checked his watch out of habit, realizing he had slept for over four hours.

"Darling..." he trailed off as he turned to Lola, only to see the board had been completely rearranged. "What is that?"

"A pyramid," Lola whispered. She turned to look at Atlas, then at the three who had just entered. "I think I know where she is."

Surprise immediately showed on everyone’s faces as she pointed at the board behind her.

"Pyramid," Lola breathed out. "She... she’s in a pyramid."
