Chapter 690: I Don’t Think She’s Safe

Everyone believed that Lola and the twins’ meeting was pure coincidence. At least, that was the twins’ claim. Not that the children were lying; Yuri simply hadn’t told them.

The twins planned to search for their mother, and that was their goal. The only thing Yuri tweaked was getting them on the plane that Lola would be on, on her way to Novera. It was the perfect chance Yuri saw, because Novera was under the Order.

If they were in that country, they would be safe.

Of course, Yuri didn’t just gamble without having the upper hand. She didn’t arrange this, thinking the twins would be heartbroken or that Lola would chase them away. Yuri took this gamble, believing in the twins’ charm and Lola’s heart.

Yuri based it all on a mother’s instinct.

"I don’t want you to think I was playing God," Yuri continued. "All I did was gamble and interfere with something that looked set in stone. Even so, I understand that I might’ve overstepped."

As Yuri continued to explain, Atlas shifted his attention to Allen. "Allen, when did she record this?"

"Oh—" Allen cleared his throat, snapping out of his shock to check. The second he saw the time, his brows knitted. "This video was taken..."

He trailed off as he lifted his gaze to everyone. "One month before the madam and the twins met."

"What?" Slater gasped. "Is she a fortune teller or what? It’s like she’s seeing the future."

"Yuri is a natural at solving cases. Mint and I always ask her for favors or help," Hugo muttered, keeping half of his focus on the recording. "But the more cases she handled—and the more complicated they were—the better she became." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"Still... she’s talking as if everything already happened," Lola whispered, eyes on the large monitor where Yuri appeared. "It sounds more like she’s backtracking, not planning."

Everyone mentally agreed, and for many reasons, everyone—except Allen—thought of one thing:

Did Yuri remember her previous life?

But even then, the Bennet men, Slater especially, knew that Yuri’s life had never been anywhere close to theirs. The Bennets and the Cortez family were not on good terms in the past, after all.

"In one month, the twins will be boarding that plane, and if the heavens are on their side, then they’ll be able to meet Lola Young," Yuri continued. "And if I was right about Lola Young, they would be fine. I could only hope... but if not, then I’d take responsibility."

She nodded, pressing her lips into a thin line.

"Having said that, creating this meeting is not my ultimate goal," she added solemnly. "All I’m hoping for from this meeting is not reconciliation between her and you, Atlas. I did it in hopes that Lola could protect her children with her skills and that... you would see what I’m seeing, Atlas."

Even though Yuri hadn’t said it directly, they already understood.

She wanted Atlas to discover that Lola didn’t leave the children at the Bennet mansion—that she didn’t abandon them, and that Lola believed she had lost her child in an accident. And if Atlas found that out, which Yuri knew he would, it would open this entire case.

"That’s why I believe that if you’re watching this, then that means things have moved in our favor." Her expression hardened with resolve. "More importantly, we are now on the same page."

Yuri then leaned back and picked something up, revealing a ziplock bag containing USB drives.

"These are the files I gathered while investigating Lola Young—from the moment she had that accident, buried her child, and how she ended up in an organization run by a mafia lord named Vito." She put the ziplock down.

"To give you a rundown, investigating Lola Young led me to more questions than answers. I’ve been searching for those answers, and although there were still many questions I had as of this recording, these files answered the initial ones."

She paused before continuing. "For instance, Lola Young knew she was only having one child, not twins. It made me wonder why, so I looked into the doctor who handled her prenatal checkups."

"Sadly, he’s already missing," she said. "And when I looked further into it, I concluded he’s already dead."

Silence fell over the room, even though all of them were already aware of this information. After all, Atlas had been looking into this when he confirmed that Lola was the mother of their children.

"However, I found his mistress," she added, earning everyone’s attention once more. "After all, the doctor didn’t hide his family, but he did hide his mistress. I presumed it was because he told her things he didn’t tell his legal wife."

"According to her, she didn’t know much. However, she remembered that the doctor had been receiving large sums of money at one point. Then one evening, he came home frantic. He told her to pack her things and that they had to leave the country. She had no idea why, but she listened."

Sadly, even when they fled, whoever was after the doctor caught up to him.

Just when the doctor and his mistress thought they could start a new life, a hit was put on his head. According to the mistress, they didn’t kill her because she had been shopping for clothes and had changed into a different outfit when it happened.

She ran away in fear and has been living in hiding ever since. Fortunately, because of her ambiguous relationship with a married man, information about her was minimal.

"I found her and kept her safe," Yuri reassured. "However, right now, I’m placing her somewhere no one can find her. I thought she might be helpful in the future. But right now... I don’t trust anyone in the Order except you, Atlas, and Allen."

For some reason, Yuri suddenly started biting her thumb as if something had just crossed her mind. Her brows crinkled, seemingly forgetting the recording, distracted by the thought.

"Now that I think about it..." she trailed off, then suddenly snapped her eyes back to the camera. "Atlas, you might want to get Nina out of Anteca. I don’t think she’s safe."
