The Billionaire Stands Up for Me-Chapter 177: You’re Already an Ex-Girlfriend
Daniel Carter was really angry.
No matter how I tried to coax him, he just ignored me.
He even got up, dressed, and insisted on leaving.
How could I let him go? I shamelessly clung to him.
"Daniel, you better think carefully. If you step out of this door now, I really won’t meet you again in the future. Think carefully..."
Anyone can make threats, can’t they?
We both understood how much space we occupied in each other’s hearts and how tough it was to take this step forward.
He was just too heartbroken, too unwilling, which made him act this way.
Sure enough, when I hugged him from behind, his whole body started trembling.
Constantly breathing, rising and falling, slight shivers.
My heart ached unbearably.
I held him and never let go, yet slowly moved from behind him to face him.
"Daniel, let’s part amicably. Let’s keep only the most beautiful moments in our memories—okay?"
I looked up at him, my posture utterly humble. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
I knew he couldn’t resist me like this.
With my innocent, starry eyes, I gazed at him, moist and steady, always watching.
Finally, his expression softened a bit.
He looked down at me, his eyes so warm, so affectionate, yet so resentful!
"Lily, do you think you’ve got me all figured out?"
"No... I love you, of course. If by ’figure out’ you mean something else, then yes."
I deliberately flirted with him, trying hard to lighten the atmosphere.
Daniel gritted his teeth, his eyes swirling fiercely, like a storm, threatening to engulf me.
Suddenly, he grabbed the back of my neck, almost lifting me up.
Then he leaned down, kissing hard, like a beast capturing its prey, ready to bite down and kill.
I dared not struggle.
Despite the pain, I didn’t resist at all and stood on tiptoe to match his pace earnestly.
"You stink, go shower!" In the middle of the kiss, he suddenly despised me and pushed me away.
I laughed, raised an eyebrow, and invited, "Together? It could save time and we could do something else."
He stared at me, his gaze hinting at something unfamiliar, and once again gritted his teeth, "Lily! You asked for it today, don’t blame me if you get hurt!"
He bent down, lifted me up again, and strode toward the bathroom.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and giggled coquettishly, "Even if you kill me tonight, I won’t blame you."
"..." Daniel looked at me, his thin lips moved, wanting to curse but finding nothing to say.
Simply bit my lips again.
That night, our battle never ceased.
At 3 a.m., when both of us were so hungry that stars danced before our eyes, Daniel got up to make me food.
He was quite good at it, the egg and shredded pork noodles he cooked were delicious.
After replenishing our energy, we hurried back to the bedroom, continuing our passionate embrace...
————
When I woke again, it was already noon the next day.
I turned over, feeling as if my whole body was falling apart.
Still a bit hungover, I rubbed my aching temples, and once my mind cleared a little, I recalled the absurdity of last night.
However, when I reached out to the side of the bed, it was already empty.
My heart raced, and my eyes widened.
He really wasn’t there, he had already left...
The emptiness in my heart broke a dam of tears, cascading down my chest.
"Stupid man! Says he can’t bear to leave but acts faster than anyone else, not even a proper farewell..."
I muttered under my breath, pounding the bed in frustration.
"Who are you cursing at so early in the morning?" Suddenly, a voice came from behind me.
I was startled, turning around as if I had been electrocuted, only to see Daniel sitting leisurely in an armchair by the window, seemingly waiting for me to wake up.
The curtains in the room were not drawn, but at this time, with the sun already high, the room was quite bright.
I saw that his expression was cold, lacking any of his usual warmth.
I slowly sat up, realizing something.
It seemed that a proper farewell was coming.
I didn’t want it to proceed in such a serious atmosphere, so I feigned arrogance and said, "Why didn’t you say something when you got up? You scared me!"
Daniel was dressed neatly, shirt, trousers, looking clean and elegant.
His hands were resting on the armrests, one long leg crossed over the other.
Since knowing him, it was my first time seeing him sit so coldly and detached.
Aloof, truly someone out of my reach.
"I’ve been up for hours, seeing you sleep like a dead pig, speaking would’ve been a waste of breath." Daniel said blandly.
I was silent, realizing that he surely had insomnia and had awoken early.
Then, just sat there, continuously watching me.
Thinking of this scene made my back feel chilly.
Thankfully, he didn’t have any perverted fetishes.
Considering those twisted men in social news who couldn’t accept a breakup, he might’ve dismembered me in my sleep.
I reached for my nightgown to cover myself, slowly getting out of bed.
"Do you have something to say? I’m listening, go ahead."
He smiled, watching me awkwardly dress, and mocked, "So passionate last night like a call girl, why so awkward now even in wearing clothes."
The hand buckling my belt froze, I looked at him, showing unfamiliarity and sadness.
"Daniel, I already said last night, I hope we part calmly, so we have only beautiful memories—must you say things to humiliate me?"
He pursed his lips, his face cold, and ultimately said nothing more.
After I finished dressing, he stood up and directly said, "I’m leaving, there’s something I need to handle."
I froze, "You’re leaving just like this?"
"How else should I leave?" He questioned back, "Or do you want to do it one more time?"
"..." I bit my lip, whispering, "That’s not what I meant... I thought you were waiting for me to wake up, to say something."
"Would it matter if I said something? Would you change your mind?"
"..." Well, indeed it’d be useless, I wouldn’t change my mind.
He stared at me intensely, seemingly still hoping to hear something he wanted from me.
But there was nothing.
He turned around, opened the bedroom door, and left.
My heart ached, unable to bear the pain of losing him, I suddenly followed: "Daniel!"
He didn’t stop, continued walking towards the living room.
"Daniel, I called you, didn’t you hear!" I yelled again in embarrassment and anger.
He finally stopped, turning to look at me: "What?"
"I..." My mouth moved several times, wanting to take back my words, but my rationality firmly suppressed it.
At last, a thought suddenly crossed my mind, and I quickly said, "Wait for me, I’ll find my phone."
I ran back to the bedroom, then to the living room, and after some searching, found my phone in the coat pocket.
Daniel stared at me, full of confusion, "What on earth are you trying to do?"
I opened the phone’s camera and approached him, pulling him closer.
"Let’s take some photos!" This way, when I miss him too much, I can look at the photos to keep going.
Daniel frowned, "No photos!"
"Please, during a business trip in Veyrona, Jessica Sawyer was subtly provoking me, deliberately placing her phone in front of me. Her lock screen was a side profile picture of you! Why can she have your photos, but as your official girlfriend, I don’t? Today I have to take some, from every angle!"
I pulled him, adjusting angles while indignantly explaining.
Daniel kept staring at me.
We were very close, and I could feel his warm breath.
He cruelly reminded me, "You’re already an ex-girlfriend."
"So what if I’m an ex-girlfriend? On the day Jessica provoked me, I wanted to take photos, but you weren’t with me then. This is what you owe me; you must make up for it!" I pulled him, lowering his height a bit, and instructed, "Stay closer to me!"
"Kiss me."
"Alright, now it’s my turn to kiss you."
"Come, let’s have a kiss."
Holding the camera with one hand, aiming at both of us, I clutched his clothes with the other, as if afraid he would escape.
Just like this, I forced him to take over a dozen selfies with me, from all angles and with various poses.
I reviewed them, nodding repeatedly, "Hmm, not bad at all, very handsome."
"Lily, how can you be so heartless?" He stared at me, asking it with a touch of resentment.
I continued to speak heartlessly, "Only by being heartless could I survive in such a family."
After speaking, I walked towards the living room door, opening the security door on my own initiative, "Meeting me was your bad luck. Second Master Carter, please go ahead."
He still stood in his original spot, his gaze deep and vast like a sea of the night, with waves stirring.
I dared not look.
The pug excitedly ran in, even picking up the leash, thinking we could take it for a walk downstairs.
I gently nudged it with my foot, "Pug, don’t cause trouble."
Daniel snapped out of his daze and walked step by step towards the door.
The pug barked around him, but he didn’t spare it a glance, walking straight out the door.
Not even pausing when passing by me.
I watched his back, tears instantly filled my eyes, falling silently.
As he waited for the elevator, his profile remained cold and calm, his entire presence exuding a noble but unapproachable aloofness.
In my heart, I shouted over and over, Daniel, Daniel...
Then the elevator arrived, and he still didn’t look back, walking straight into the car.
He just left, so clean and decisively, without any hesitation, walking out of my world.
"Daniel, Daniel!" I finally couldn’t help but cry out, my whole body limp without a trace of strength, just squatting by the door, sobbing and trembling.
————
I got sick.
Fevered inexplicably, high fever persisting for days without abating.
If Wennie hadn’t failed to reach me by phone and came just in time to knock on my door, I would probably have slept to death at home.
"What happened to you? Your eyes are as red as a rabbit’s," she asked worriedly, then raised her hand to touch my forehead, startled, "You’re burning up! Burning like this!"
"It’s nothing, a good sleep and everything will be fine." I murmured, turning to go back to the bedroom, but Wennie grabbed me.
"Come on, let’s see a doctor! Look at yourself, you look like a ghost!"
Wennie forcibly dragged me out, taking me to the hospital.
As a result, after an examination, the doctor said it was pneumonia and that I had to be hospitalized.
I wailed incessantly.
It was my first time being hospitalized for an illness in my life.
Wennie took care of all the paperwork, taking me to check in at the hospital department.
By some twist of fate, I unexpectedly ran into an old rival in the hallway.
Jessica Sawyer was carrying a thermos, seemingly there to deliver meals.
She looked surprised to see me, then smiled, "Lily Miller? What happened to you? Heartbreak made you fall sick?"
I couldn’t be bothered to engage her, rolling my eyes and walking straight past.
But she, finally seeing me in a desolate state, wouldn’t let the opportunity pass, turning back to catch up and saying, "You and Daniel truly are made for each other. He fell ill too these past few days, but he’s resting at home."
I was faintly moved, looking at her, "What’s wrong with Daniel?"
"Hmm...maybe it’s the recent pressure, causing some stomach issues. I just visited yesterday, and he’s almost recovered," she replied with a smile, her manner full of a victor’s pride.
Upon returning from paying the fees, Wennie saw her and immediately came up to me, "Jessica Sawyer, is there nowhere you’re not? Does your life have no value unless it annoys others?"
It must be said, Wennie was also sharp-tongued.
I chuckled a bit, "Forget it, ignore her."
We turned towards the ward, and from behind, Jessica called out loudly, "Thank you, Lily Miller, for finally recognizing your place."
Wennie turned back to scold but was pulled back by me.
"Why are you holding back? People like her deserve a good scolding, why bear it?"
"Arguing with someone like her doesn’t stoop to your level, and besides... if she really marries Daniel, I don’t want to make it difficult for him either."
Speaking those words felt like my heart was bleeding.
Wennie widened her eyes, looking at me in disbelief, "You’re...you’re hopeless! If Daniel marries someone, do you intend to cozy up to them?"
I knew my best friend was angry, but I didn’t have the energy to argue.
Having completed the hospitalization procedure, I lay down, initially wanting to sleep.
But as soon as I thought of Daniel also being sick, I couldn’t calm down.
Though Jessica said he was almost recovered...
I really wanted to call him and ask, but I knew deep down I no longer had the right to do so.
In the end, I could only force myself to keep sleeping.
My condition wasn’t serious; after two days in the hospital, I was mostly recovered.
On the third day, without troubling Wennie, I handled my discharge myself.
But to my utter surprise, as I was leaving the hospital, carrying a simple luggage waiting for a ride at the gate, I unexpectedly ran into Daniel!
He was sitting in the back seat of a car.
The window was half down, revealing his handsome, noble eyes.
He seemed to be looking at me, but his eyes were unfocused, as if looking past me at something unknown.
My heartbeat panicked instantly, imagining countless possibilities in my mind.
For instance, he might get out of the car to show concern and greet me.
Or, he could come over and take the things from my hand, letting me get in the car.
Alternatively, he might mockingly ask, ready to break up again? Serve you right.
I brainstormed all this, yet he only coolly withdrew his gaze, and then the mighty black SUV smoothly drove away.
I stood there, the cold wind brushing against my face like a knife scraping across my heart.
What exactly did he mean?
Was it just an accidental encounter?
Or was it deliberate to see my downfall?
Once he found I was indeed downcast, was he satisfied, and then left?
