Chapter 452: Chapter 452: Fear

Mason Monroe nodded, "I understand."

He averted his eyes, a haze of indistinct coldness in them.

Coralie Hughes let out a breath, patted Mason’s shoulder, and said, "It’s good to clear things up. If we had done this sooner, we wouldn’t have ended up like this."

Mason turned back to look at Coralie and nodded again, saying, "Yes, I should have cleared things up sooner."

Coralie smiled and said, "Dad probably still thinks I’m not in my right mind, so he won’t agree to let me leave here for now. Luckily, you came to get me. Once I get home and make a scene, Dad is bound to relent. I’ll also help you pay off your debts."

Mason nodded darkly, then said, "Let’s leave quickly while they’re switching shifts, so we don’t get caught. I know the way to the back door and have already unlocked it. We’ll leave through there."

"Great!" Coralie said excitedly, putting on her shoes.

Finally, she was leaving this dreadful place where cries for help went unanswered!

The first thing she’d do once out was get revenge on Summer Monroe.

If Summer hadn’t deliberately provoked her at the registry office, she wouldn’t have lost control and ended up in the asylum.

As Coralie quietly followed Mason to the back door, her mind was busy plotting her revenge.

Soon, they reached the back door. As soon as Coralie stepped out, she saw her family’s car, which gave her a great sense of security. Trusting Mason completely, she thanked him again, "Thank you, cousin. If you ever find yourself in trouble, especially financially, just let me know. By the way, how much money do you need? I’ll transfer it to you once I get my phone."

Mason shook his head, his lips curving into a smile, "No need, it’s already sorted."

Surprised, Coralie asked, "How did you manage that?"

Mason seemed reluctant to answer, saying only, "Get in the car. We shouldn’t stay here long."

"Alright!" Coralie refrained from asking more and promptly got into the car.

"You should take a nap. Traffic is a bit heavy at this time, so I’ll take an alternate route to avoid it, which might mean we get home an hour later."

Coralie nodded; she was still a bit drowsy from the sedatives and indeed needed some sleep.

Closing her eyes tiredly, she said, "Alright, cousin. Wake me up when we get there, I’ll just take a nap first."

"Okay." Mason gave Coralie a long look before turning away and starting the car.

The car sped off, quickly disappearing into the traffic.

The sunset faded from the sky, the night curtain fell.

Coralie was sleeping soundly when the car suddenly shook violently, jolting her awake. Instinctively, she looked out the window.

All she saw was darkness, but with the help of the streetlights, she realized they were on a mountain road.

A mountain road??

What detour involves driving up a mountain?

A wave of panic rose in Coralie’s heart, and she nervously glanced at Mason, asking, "Cousin, where are we?"

With a gentle smile on his lips, Mason replied, "Norcross Scenic Mountain."

Coralie’s eyes widened instantly.

"Norcross?!"

Norcross was miles away from her home; how long had Mason been driving?

The panic in Coralie’s heart intensified, and she commanded directly, "Turn around, go back down the mountain. I’ll get home on my own!"

But Mason, next to her, acted as if he hadn’t heard, still smiling faintly.

The play of light and shadow made his profile look grotesquely terrifying.

Terrified, Coralie screamed, "Stop the car! I told you to stop the car!"
