Athena pressed down on the accelerator, her grip tightening around the steering wheel.

The jeep roared as it sped down the ruined road, dodging the rusted remains of abandoned cars and debris-strewn streets.

The world around her had completely fallen apart. Once-thriving cities were nothing but husks of their former selves, overgrown with weeds and painted in dried blood.

She had already faced one monstrous zombie, and she knew it wouldn't be the last. A low growl sounded from somewhere in the distance.

She tensed, eyes flicking to the side mirror. The night sky cast eerie shadows, stretching the remains of destroyed buildings into grotesque shapes.

But among them, movement. Not just one figure, dozens. They were fast.

"Shit." Athena shifted gears.

The engine roared as the jeep shot forward, but the figures behind her responded in kind. These weren't the usual slow, lumbering undead.

These creatures moved with terrifying speed, their bodies twisting unnaturally as they sprinted on all fours. Their glowing eyes locked onto her, predatory, hungry.

Then, the first one leaped. Athena yanked the steering wheel, barely avoiding the creature as it crashed down where her jeep had been just a second ago.

It tumbled onto the road, rolling before clawing its way back up, completely unphased. The rest were catching up.

Athena cursed and reached for her rifle. Steering with one hand, she leaned out of the window, aimed, and fired.

The bullet struck one of the creatures in the skull, and it collapsed immediately.

One down. Too many left.

They were closing in, their snarls filling the night air. Another jumped onto the hood of the jeep, its long, clawed fingers digging into the metal as it bared its fangs.

Athena didn't hesitate. She shot it point-blank in the face. Blood and brain matter splattered against the windshield, but the force of the shot sent the creature flying backward.

Then, two more lunged at her from the side. Too close.

She swerved hard. The jeep skidded sideways, tires screeching against the cracked pavement. The zombies missed their mark, slamming into a nearby wreckage instead.

But more were coming. Athena needed to end this quickly.

She activated her soul space, pulling out a grenade launcher she had taken from the military outpost. With one swift motion, she loaded it and fired behind her.

The explosion lit up the night.

The force of it sent zombies flying in all directions, their bodies torn apart by the blast. Fire spread across the road, creating a barrier between her and the remaining monsters.

She didn't waste a second.

Athena floored the gas pedal and shot forward, the jeep breaking through the flames. The creatures that survived the explosion hesitated, snarling from the other side of the fire.

They couldn't follow her now. She exhaled sharply, gripping the wheel tighter. That was too close.

Athena drove through the night, the tension in her shoulders never fully leaving. Even though she had outrun those creatures, she knew more dangers lay ahead.

She needed to be smarter. Stronger.

Stopping at an old convenience store, she parked the jeep and stepped out cautiously. The air was still, but she knew better than to let her guard down.

Holding her rifle at the ready, she moved inside.

Most of the shelves had already been looted, but she managed to find a few supplies, water bottles, canned food, a first-aid kit.

Then, a sound. A whisper of movement. Athena froze, listening. Then, a gunshot. She dived behind a counter just as the bullet struck where she had been standing.

Not zombies. Humans.

Athena peeked over the counter and saw them, three men in ragged clothes, armed with makeshift weapons. They weren't soldiers. Just desperate survivors.

"Drop your gun," one of them growled, stepping forward. "We don't want trouble. Just leave everything you took."

Athena smirked. "Oh? And if I don't?"

The man aimed his rifle. "Then we take it from you."

She sighed. "Wrong answer."

In a blur of motion, she activated her ability. Her sword materialized in her hand, its glowing edge slicing through the air. Before they could react, she was already on them.

The first man barely had time to blink before she cut through his wrist, making him drop his gun. He screamed in agony, stumbling backward.

The second one tried to aim at her, but Athena moved faster. She spun, her sword carving through his shoulder, nearly cutting him in half.

The last man panicked. He turned to run. Athena threw her knife. The blade struck the back of his neck. He collapsed instantly. The fight was over in seconds.

Athena wiped her blade clean and sighed. She had no sympathy for people like them. In this world, the strong survived. And she had no intention of becoming prey.

After taking what she needed, she returned to the jeep and continued north.

The days passed in a blur of battles. More zombies, more mutated creatures, more desperate survivors willing to kill for a scrap of food. She fought through them all.

She scavenged what she could, collecting weapons, medical supplies, food, and gasoline.

Her soul space was her biggest advantage, she could store everything without worrying about weight or space. But the more she traveled, the worse the situation became.

Entire cities had collapsed. Roads had become death traps filled with broken-down vehicles and wandering zombies.

The air was thick with the stench of rotting flesh. And the creatures were evolving.

One night, she encountered a beast unlike any she had ever seen. It was massive, twice the size of a normal human, its skin blackened and hardened like armor.

It let out an ear-splitting roar before charging at her. Athena barely dodged in time, rolling across the pavement as the ground cracked beneath its heavy footsteps.

This one was different. Stronger. She needed to be careful. Drawing her sword, she darted forward, aiming for its legs. But the moment her blade struck its skin, sparks flew.

Too tough.

The creature swiped at her with clawed hands, forcing her to jump back. She needed another strategy.

Reaching into her soul space, she pulled out a high-powered sniper rifle and quickly aimed. The monster charged again. Athena fired.

The bullet struck its eye. The creature roared in agony, stumbling backward. She fired again. Another direct hit.

The beast collapsed with a heavy thud, its body twitching before finally going still. Athena exhaled, lowering the rifle. She was getting closer to the military base.

But if creatures like this existed now… what kind of horrors waited for her up ahead?
