The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 756 - 797 - Dominate Six Masters
"Sixth Brother, I’ve been stewing this chicken soup for a long time. Would you like some? You should eat more; it’ll help you recover faster," Melanie murmured softly.
"..."
"Never mind, you can drink it after you wake up."
Melanie pulled up the blanket covering Adrian Desmond. Her hand accidentally touched his skin, and she quickly withdrew it as if shocked by electricity.
She looked at Adrian, and then her face slowly turned red.
"Sixth Brother, I... I will stay with you here and not go anywhere. You can rest well," Melanie stammered, her face flushed.
Adrian pretended to be asleep, ignoring her.
Adrian never knew Melanie could be so shameless. If he gave her an inch, she would take a mile, her radiance becoming utterly unbearable.
To deal with Melanie, Adrian had figured out a method: complete indifference!
If he dared to respond to Melanie, she would cling to him like a stubborn leech, impossible to shake off.
He wanted to see Sienna and his daughter. Those two were inherently reserved, and he feared that the longer he stayed away, the more distant they would become from him.
But in his current state, there was no way he could see them.
He wondered if his son had been mischievous again, perhaps kicking and hurting her.
He longed to see her, truly longed to see her!
Paige Desmond walked into Adrian’s ward at this very moment.
"Paige, why did you come?" Melanie asked.
Melanie was not happy with Paige’s arrival. She could take care of Adrian by herself. Why did Paige always have to come running here when there was nothing for her to do?
"I came to visit my brother," Paige replied.
Paige placed the insulated flask she had brought on the table. It was filled with pork rib soup, with plenty of tender ribs.
"Paige, I can take care of Sixth Brother. You don’t need to come here so often." Melanie’s possessive tone regarding Adrian clearly made Paige uncomfortable.
Paige didn’t argue directly. Instead, she brought up Elliot Carpenter. "Isn’t your father injured too? You stay here with my brother and don’t go to take care of your own father. Aren’t you afraid he’ll call you unfilial?"
"It was Dad who asked me to come and take care of Sixth Brother. Sixth Brother took a bullet for Dad, and Dad has been feeling terrible about it. He asked me to come and look after Sixth Brother to help alleviate some of his guilt."
Melanie’s smooth words left Paige momentarily speechless.
"Your father might not mind, but what about your son? Is Devin okay? You’ve been at the hospital for a week now. Doesn’t your son miss you?" Paige pressed.
Devin was a stain on Melanie’s life; giving birth to him was her biggest regret. Back then, Adrian only had Sienna in his heart. In a fit of pique, Melanie had given birth to Devin deliberately to spite Adrian.
As Adrian’s wife, Melanie had expected him to be angry, jealous, even possessive... But Adrian had shown none of those emotions.
When he found out she was pregnant with another man’s child, Adrian had seemed to want to grant her freedom, to take the opportunity to get rid of her and make room for that woman, Sienna, as "Mrs. Desmond."
"The nanny is looking after him," Melanie replied.
"A nanny can never replace his own mother. If you have the time, you should spend more of it with your son," Paige said.
Melanie retorted, "And you? You’re always running to the hospital. Aren’t you neglecting *your* son?"
"My brother is injured and hospitalized, so of course I should visit him frequently. I’m his only sister, after all. It’s natural for a sister to visit her brother. Why, do you have a problem with that?" Paige shot back.
The two women locked eyes, Melanie glaring at Paige. They used to be close sisters, but Paige... she had betrayed their friendship.
When Sienna was trying to take Adrian away from her, she had begged Paige for help, but Paige had chosen to stand idly by.
"And as for you," Paige continued, "my brother’s current wife is Sienna! You’re here all day long. Aren’t you afraid of what people will say?"
Melanie said dismissively, "People will say what they want. If they love to talk, let them. ..."
She looked at the beautiful Paige and mocked, "I learned it from you. The whole of Abyanabad knows you were unfaithful, had an affair, and were abandoned by His Highness the Prince. You don’t care about gossip, so why should I?"
Paige hadn’t expected Melanie to be so sharp-tongued and caustic.
"But my sister-in-law won’t want to see you pestering my brother!" Paige insisted.
"Then let Sienna come and tell me!"
Paige saw how incorrigibly stubborn Melanie was, seemingly shameless, and decided to stop mincing her words. "My brother doesn’t like you, so stop pestering him! My sister-in-law and my brother have argued several times recently because of you. Why do you insist on getting between them?"
"It’s Sienna who’s getting between me and Adrian!"
Paige looked at Melanie with pity. "You’re truly pitiful!"
Paige decided not to waste any more words on the obstinate woman. She walked to the bedside, gently patted Adrian’s arm, and said, "Brother, I’m here to see you."
Melanie suddenly cried out, as if Paige had touched something that belonged to her, "What are you doing? He just fell asleep! The doctor said he needs more rest to recover quickly."
Paige ignored the unhinged woman. With Sienna not around, did Melanie really think she was Adrian’s wife? What a joke! It was only because Sienna didn’t take her seriously. If Sienna decided to deal with her, Melanie would be no match for her at all.
"Why are you here?" Adrian asked, his voice raspy.
Adrian hadn’t been asleep at all. With Melanie in the room, he couldn’t get to sleep. Unfortunately, there was no getting rid of her.
"I made some soup for you," Paige said. "It’s pork rib soup. Want some?"
Adrian nodded. Paige ladled him a bowl of the rib soup. As if deliberately trying to provoke Melanie, Paige began to feed Adrian, and he didn’t refuse.
"Is it good?" Paige asked.
"It’s delicious," Adrian replied.
"Then have some more. Here, try another rib. I stewed them for a long time; the meat practically melts off the bone."
Melanie watched, her eyes practically shooting sparks. Just moments ago, when she had offered to feed Adrian, he’d said he had hands and didn’t need her help. So why was Paige allowed to feed him?
"The doctor said Sixth Brother shouldn’t eat so much greasy food. He needs to eat lighter meals," Melanie interjected.
Neither of the siblings paid her any attention.
"How has Sienna been lately?" Adrian asked Paige.
"So now you’re concerned about your wife? What took you so long? Do you realize your wife almost became a widow?" Paige retorted, also disapproving of Adrian taking a bullet for Elliot Carpenter.
Paige was different from Adrian; she’d had little contact with Elliot Carpenter and didn’t feel much of a connection to him.
"Be serious!" Adrian urged. "How is she doing?"
Following Sienna’s instructions, Walter Klein had sent the Johnson family back to Sileria City. Paige had assumed that Sienna, angry with Adrian, had also returned to Sileria. Adrian, however, believed Sienna was still at Desmond Manor.
Therefore, neither of the siblings knew that Sienna was actually with Xavier Young now.
