The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 664 - 705: Refusing Cooperation
"What can Aaron Faber do that I can’t?"
Upon hearing Adrian Desmond’s sour tone, thick with jealousy, Sienna Johnson’s lingering fear and dread subsided somewhat.
"Sixth Master is so jealous."
"There’s nothing you need him for; just ask me! If even I can’t do it, asking him would be completely useless," Adrian Desmond confidently declared.
Sienna looked at the anklet on her ankle. Night Owl said it was a listening device. But does it have a monitoring function? If it does, then my plan to use a note to inform Adrian Desmond will be useless, won’t it?
"Don’t go to the beach alone in the future!"
"I know, I won’t do it again," Sienna replied obediently.
"If you want to go, I’ll accompany you."
"Alright."
Back at the Castle, Sienna first went to check on her daughter. The little girl had played until she was exhausted and had fallen asleep early without even eating dinner. She didn’t even wake up when Pauline Briggs called her.
"You go have dinner. I’ll stay with her. If she wakes up, I’ll cook her some noodles," Pauline Briggs said.
"Okay." Sienna’s hand stroked her daughter’s hair, and she indeed saw that a section near her ear had been cut short.
Sienna’s heart clenched. Night Owl had infiltrated so easily and snipped off a lock of her daughter’s hair. How could Sienna not be worried?
"Sienna, what are you thinking about? I was just talking to you; why didn’t you react?"
"I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you just now. What did you say?"
"Why do you look so pale? Are you sick?" Pauline Briggs was startled by Sienna’s pale complexion. She had been fine just moments ago; how had her face suddenly changed?
"Perhaps I haven’t been resting well recently and am a bit tired."
"Is it still because of the bird’s nest issue? I heard about it. You said those bird’s nests didn’t cost much to begin with, so we could make a small profit. But you insisted on trying to earn more and ended up getting bullied when you delivered them, didn’t you?"
"Mom, I’m craving lotus seed bird’s nest porridge. Can you make it for me?"
"Of course, I’ll go make it for you right now."
With just a few words, Sienna managed to distract Pauline Briggs. Pauline left Curly’s room to prepare the lotus seed bird’s nest porridge for Sienna.
Once the room was empty, Sienna sat by her daughter’s bedside. She tugged at the anklet, trying to remove it, but it wouldn’t budge.
Damn it!
Sienna had originally planned to soak it in water, but then she remembered Night Owl had put it on her ankle directly from the seawater. It must be waterproof.
So what should I do?
Sienna stared at the anklet, her mind blank for a moment. I won’t be foolish enough to cooperate with Night Owl to harm Adrian Desmond. Adrian Desmond is my and my child’s support. If he falls, my child and I will be next to suffer. We could even die, and my family might be dragged down too. But what should I do?
Sienna didn’t know if the anklet had a video recording function. Whether it does or not, I have a plan. She put on a pair of long athletic pants and black cotton socks, completely covering the anklet.
Then she went to the projection room and put on a Westorian action movie, turning the volume to maximum. Only when she was sure no one could overhear did she begin writing a letter to Adrian Desmond, detailing the entire situation.
At dinnertime, Adrian Desmond took a shower. When he came out, he didn’t see Sienna in the dining room.
He asked a servant and learned Sienna had gone to her daughter’s room. He hurried there but didn’t find her. Then he heard she had gone to the projection room. He found her there, curled up.
"Dinner is ready. Why are you watching a movie?"
Sienna made a hushing gesture. "I was in a bad mood, so I came to watch a movie."
Adrian Desmond sat down beside her. Sienna made another hushing gesture and then handed him the letter she was holding.
Sienna kept her finger pressed to her lips, signaling Adrian Desmond not to speak. He looked at her, puzzled. Sienna gestured towards the paper in his hand. Adrian Desmond lowered his gaze and saw two large words written on it: Night Owl.
Adrian Desmond’s casual, almost languid demeanor vanished instantly. Sienna had written in the Amwan language. He scanned it quickly, his eyes flying across the lines. It seemed he hadn’t fully processed it, so he reread it carefully before his gaze finally shifted to her ankle.
Sienna pointed to her own ankle and deliberately asked, "Adrian Desmond, aren’t you an arms dealer? Do you have those submachine guns like in the movie?"
"Yes," Adrian Desmond said in a muffled voice.
Unnamed Island is my home, my most secret sanctuary. Yet Night Owl infiltrated it as if it were unguarded and actually snipped a lock of my daughter’s hair! That was just hair. What if Night Owl had been more ruthless? What about my Curly? The island’s defenses are formidable; logically, it should be impossible for Night Owl to come and go without a trace. How did he manage to slip past so many eyes and ears to get in?
"Can you get me one to play with?"
"Let’s talk about it after you’ve had the baby."
"Then give me a small handgun... If you’re busy, I’ll just go to your armory myself and get one."
Sienna was deliberately trying to create a false impression, to make Night Owl believe she was terrified they would harm her daughter and thus had no choice but to cooperate.
Another woman might have been intimidated into submission. But I’m rational enough to understand our fates are intertwined. If Adrian Desmond falls, I lose my protection. Then, our deaths would be even more miserable. If we truly fall prey to Night Owl, and our family dies together, that would at least be a dignified end. Of course, that’s the worst-case scenario. We won’t die. Night Owl is the one who will die!
"Alright, I’ll take you to the armory tomorrow. You can pick whatever you like."
"Where is your armory?"
Sienna had written down the whole sequence of events for Adrian Desmond. She trusted he would know what could be said aloud and what couldn’t.
"It’s right here on the island. Remember the Snake House? A recent shipment of arms I’m planning to sell to Kidinn is stored there."
Sienna shot him a fierce glare. Can’t he read? Doesn’t he understand what I wrote on that paper? How could he be so foolish as to reveal the location of the armory?
"Don’t try to fool me. You’d never tell me something so secret." Sienna kept giving Adrian Desmond pointed looks, feeling as if her eyes might cross from the effort.
"Why would I lie to you? The arms are hidden in the basement beneath the Snake House. If you don’t believe me, I’ll take you to see it tomorrow. Besides, I can help you pick out a few ladies’ handguns suitable for personal carry."
"No, thanks. I don’t care much for handguns anyway," Sienna said irritably. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Sienna looked at Adrian Desmond as if he were an absolute idiot. Is this man dense, or just playing dumb? Doesn’t he understand what I’m trying to say at all?
"Why are you angry again? Weren’t you the one who wanted one just now?"
