The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 40: Ch : A Visit to Anabella - Part 2
"R-Rose, you’re finally here. Please help me out."
Anabella’s eyes trembled as she clutched my shoulder like I was her last lifeline. Looking at her pitiful-looking face made me feel sorry for her. Her grip shook with desperation, nails digging in as if pain alone could anchor me to her sinking world.
But not sorry enough to throw everything away for her. So as much as she wanted to cling to me and ask me to help her, Anabella was just an obstacle for me at the moment and I wanted to crush her.
One wrong move and she would drag me back into the grave she dug-so I would gladly bury her first.
’How annoying. But I need to be gracious to her.’
"Don’t cry, Anabella. Everything is going to be alright. I am here to help you out."
I assured her and she broke down. Her sobs shook through my clothes, clinging like guilt I refused to feel.
"I-I was so close. I was so close, Anabella. Why did they have to survive? What should I do now?"
Rose asked as she broke down in my arms. Now she was truly useless to me and I needed to find a way to dispose of her.
I decided to tell her exactly what my mother had asked me to do.
"Anabella, do you want to survive? There is something I need you to do in that case."
The female in my arms stopped crying and turned her hopeful eyes toward me.
"Y-You will help me out?"
She asked and I nodded. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Yes, I will help you out. But first, I need you to do something for me."
I told her and Anabella nodded.
"Of course. I will do anything."
"Anything? Then, I need you to confess to everything that you have done and tell everyone that it was all your plan."
Anabella’s smile froze on her face and her pale face looked at me in betrayal.
"W-What-?"
"Listen to me, Anabella. The police are investigating you and everyone related to you. If this keeps happening, then I won’t have any time to help you out. That is why I need you to distract the police and get them away from me and Karl. That way, we would be able to help you out."
I repeated this word-for-word as mother had told me to.
Anabella’s face went from pale to red and back to pale. Her eyes shook and a little bit of her trust in me faded. That I could not allow, so I immediately clutched her shoulder to make her look at me.
I forced her gaze to stay on mine-panic could not be allowed to turn into suspicion.
"Listen to me, Anabella. I am not abandoning you. I am going to help you out. All you need to do is keep me and Karl out of the mess. You can do that much for us, right? After all, we are friends."
Anabella’s face lightened at the word ’friends.’ The word wrapped around her heart like a chain she wanted to wear willingly.
Her sagged shoulders told me that she had already accepted what she needed to do.
Out of everyone I knew, she was the one who held her friendships in the highest regard. She nodded to show me that she understood.
"Alright, I understand. Since we are friends, I will make sure to help you and Karl out. I trust you to keep your words."
She told me and I felt my heart lighten a little bit.
The poor girl in front of me was far too trusting for her own good. That was why she had ended up in this mess in the first place. But who was I to judge when I was the one who got her in this mess in the first place?
The irony tasted almost sweet-betrayal disguised as salvation
"Thank you, Anabella. Now, keep your head down and pretend you have given up. I need to take my leave now."
I told her as I stood up to leave.
Anabella’s hand lingered at my sleeve as her eyes looked at me with unhidden desires and pity.
Her mouth opened and closed, wanting to speak but being unable to. But in the end, she committed to letting me go.
"Please, keep your promise. You are the only one I have left."
She told me and I nodded.
’Don’t worry, Anabella. You are the only one I have as well...to get me out of this mess...’
And when you finally serve your purpose, I’ll mourn you the same way people mourn strangers-politely and from a distance.
__________Jenna’s Pov
"Miss, I am sorry but you cannot enter right now. The prisoner is not in a stable state to have ’you’ both as a visitor."
The guard told us as soon as we made our entry at the prison. He looked nervous for obvious reasons, and I could tell that he was trying to stall us out.
Damian must have gotten a similar feeling because he took a step forward. The guard took a step back but did not get out of the way.
We were at a standstill until another officer came to check up on what was happening. He paled as soon as he saw Damian and welcomed us in.
"W-Welcome here, Mr. Black. We were not aware that you were visiting us. W-What can we help you with today?"
The new officer asked and Damian gave him a calm look.
"We are here to visit prisoner Anabella. As you know, she is involved with our case and we want to talk to her before she is sentenced."
Damian told the guard and the second guard immediately welcomed us in.
"Of course. Please come in. Hey, what are you doing? Hurry up and tell the warden..."
"But the prisoner..."
"She’s alone. I will escort our guests inside. You go and make other preparations."
This much fuzz made me sure that something else was going on here as well. Unfortunately, it seemed as if we were a little late in catching the crime.
The air itself felt like it was hiding something-thick, guilty, and trembling.
Our impatience was clearly shown on our face and the pair in front of us sighed before they turned toward us.
"We are sorry for the delay. Sir, Madam, please follow me for now. I will take you to the prisoner."
The second guard told us as the first one dashed forward, likely to inform the warden of our visit.
