Chapter 150: Escort Mission [5]

The loud roar sound came again, the Alpha was coming, the smell of blood filled the air.

"Raiden..."

"... run"

But his voice didn’t get to him, it had happened so far.

Yuki’s hand twitched, her eyes slowly opened as she met with smoke around her, her body covered in cuts and bruises, as well as burns. She forced her body to turn over, her body shocked in pain, her teeth clenched in response.

It exploded right through her body causing her to cough. Each cough felt like her body would come apart.

Her eyes scanned the area covered in smoke and fire. ’Hiro’ she thought worried. She had to find him but Raiden’s cries distracted her.

She forces her body to sit up while holding her broken arm.

"Raiden," she said weakly, as she closed her eyes and then opened her bio-genetic eyes so that she could get a better view from the distance she was in. The iris color changed to bright crystal blue like a diamond mixed with light and dark shades with a hint of red lines in it, forming a crack moving around. The pupil darkens more and extends.

But then her heart slammed into a loud beat when she saw the hand Raiden was holding onto as he cried.

"Asano," she said in shock with wide shaky eyes, her body paralyzed by shock.

"Asano!!!" Raiden cried his heart out.

Yuki’s look darkened as her lips pressed in a thin line, her body trembling. She bit her lip hard, drawing blood. Her hand holding her right broken arm clenched tightly.

A memory tore through her at that moment.

*

"Yuki" Asano’s face came into view as she smiled. Pulling some strands of her hair behind her ears.

They were just getting ready to move out to meet the personnel waiting for them at the base. Preparing the supplies and things they needed.

"What is it?" Yuki asked with her usual stern expression.

She sighed out of a puff of smoke.

"You still haven’t changed your non-emotional face, but you’re getting better though," she said with a shrug. She was always cold when it came to everyone else and it was hard to get friendly with Yuki.

"I heard you and Raiden are a thing," Yuki blunted. The news spread faster than sightings of Kaijus. It was mostly Kaname who was responsible for this.

Asano’s eyes turned blank white and an angry vein popped out behind her head.

"You’re still blunt as always," she said, chuckling nervously. The news got out and it was still hard getting used to it but she didn’t expect Yuki to tell her right in the face. That’s Yuki after all, always blunt.

Yuki smiled.

Asano froze, caught off guard by her expression. It was new and certainly welcoming and it looked quite good on her.

"Huh? Is that a smile?" she said as her face lit up. She sighed and smiled. "You should smile more, it makes your eyes pop out" she complimented.

"And to answer your question... yes, I’m with Raiden-kun," she said softly as her cheeks heated. The skin went red there, and just now she couldn’t stop thinking about him.

"I’m happy whenever I’m with him," she said, staring at the sky, her hands behind her back. The wind carried her hair softly. She couldn’t wait for them to finish their mission so that she could get more time to spend with Raiden. She prayed for this mission to go as simple as possible for this to happen.

"Does it have to do with devotion?" Yuki asked curiously, remembering what Shino told her about being devoted to Hiro? She had thought deeply about it but couldn’t arrive at a conclusion. She needed to understand more and hearing from Azano was the best thing to do.

"Huh" Asano was caught off guard by Yuki’s question. It was out of the blue. "Um..." she voiced. "Devotion?" she added, placing a finger on her chin.

She then nodded profusely. "Hm, that’s right... I think it has to do with that too, but it can come in two ways, it can be between friends or lovers" she said with a shrug.

"I see," Yuki said, staring at the blue sky. The wind carried her hair weightlessly

"It’s okay Yuki... come to me if you wanna talk about anything" she offered. It was nice to have this kind of talk with Yuki. At least now she knew Yuki was capable of feeling something, and having a friend like her was what she always wished for.

At her words Yuki turned to her. Asano’s gaze was on the sky before she turned to her.

"I’m sure it will be about Hiro," she adds with a wink. Eagerly waiting to have her first boy talk to Yuki. She bets it would be fun!

*

A tear slides down her cheek at the memory. She used her thumb to brush the tear off her cheek, staring at the water, her eyes trembling. Tears, she was crying. Crying for a friend she never got to have.

The boy talk... she mentioned, she won’t be able to do that anymore. Because... Yuki squeezed her eyes shut, her teeth clenched as well as her fist.

"Asano," she said faintly. The last memory of her smiling at her captured her senses.

A roar came again. It was from the Alpha. It suddenly closed and with trembling eyes she followed it and found the Alpha coming behind Raiden, like a predator ready to unleash wrath.

Raiden’s teeth clenched in a tight hold, on the verge of grinding his molars to dust, pure rage exploded through him until it was all he could see.

"You killed her" he began in tears, as he turned to the Alpha, pissed, with bloodshot eyes. A crazed unhinged look in his eyes.

"YOU KILLED HER!!!" he shouted at the top of his lungs.

The Alpha roared at him dangerously, vibrating the very earth.

"Raiden!" He turned at the sound of his name.

He saw Shino in the distance, struggling to get up.

"RUN!!!"
