The Astral soul system-Chapter 92: Jade might be a problem
Zaria sat next to Zen in the audience.
"Do you really think this is a good idea? "
"Why wouldn’t it be"
"Jade’s... not like us. She’s..."
"A level two? "
Zaria sighed.
"That’s not what I meant. She said you trained her for the past month, but that might not be enough "
Theia chuckled.
"Yeah, that’s what we thought "
"You’d be surprised . She’s stronger than you think "
"She’s not used to fighting"
Zen paused for a bit.
"I thought so too, but either she’s lying or... she’s just that special "
**************
Jade took a stance in the arena but due to her constant shivering it just looked silly
Her opponent looked at her and smiled confidently.
’This kid doesn’t know what she’s doing’
"Hey girl, your names Jade, right?"
Jade nodded hesitantly.
"It’ll be better for everyone if you just give up now, you’re clearly not confident in your ability to win"
Jade clenched her fists, already considering it. Her head tilted towards a specific spot in the audience and she saw her friends cheering her on. She suddenly noticed Zen mouth something to her.
"You’re going to win"
He didn’t say it as encouragement or as a speculation. Zen uttered those words like it was a known fact. He had already checked the stats of both Jade and her opponent , who’s name happened to be Mark ,and other than her ability, she outclassed him in every way, skills included.
Jade nodded, still a bit unsure, but she was going to try
’Okay, Zen told me his ability was a fire ability variation at level five, and he’s physically weak...i can deal with that...I hope. I just have to remember,my ability is a support ability. I’m too weak to use it to transport myself so i should just focus on what I can do. Use my ability to redirect my opponent’s attacks,to position my own ’
"So you’re not going to surrender?" Mark interrupted her thoughts.
"No"
Mark grinned. Even now he could sense uncertainty in her voice. This would be easy.
*BEGIN!!!"
Mark immediately went on the offensive, starting with a normal punch straight for Jade’s face, planning to knock her out immediately. She was just a scared little girl after all, this would be easy.
Jade froze in place for a moment, but only a moment as all the training with Zen resurfaced in her mind. How exactly she was able to absorb and process so much in less than a month was unknown even to Zen, but the fact remained that she did.
Like he was moving in slow motion, Jade tilted her head, avoiding his hit completely before grabbing onto his arm, and with a quick spin she lifted him off the ground and...
*Bam!*
Mark blinked twice, confused at how he had ended up with his back on the ground and his spine aching.
"The fuck just happened? How strong is she?"
Unwilling to face any more humiliation, Mark directed a blaze at her, and like she had seen it coming, Jade rolled to the side, avoiding it.
Mark quickly got up and was about to throw another burst of fire when his a portal appeared in front of his hand, taking part of his hand with it. His burst of fire appeared at a distance away from them as well as part of his hand .
"Wha-"
Before Mark could finish his thought, Jade aimed a punch straight for his abdomen, knocking the wind out of him. Before he could recover, she sent another punch straight for his face and knocking him back.
Mark grunted and tried to attack but the same portal appeared, eating his attack and redirecting it behind Jade.
"Fuck, this is bad. I can shoot fire but I can’t control it. If she keeps doing this..."
Mark tried setting up a feint, shooting at her feet to distract her but she ignored it, using the chance to grab his arm, and without any hesitation
*Snap*
Dislocated it.... Zen probably shouldn’t have taught her that.
Mark screamed in pain and tried to burn her since she was so close, but she easily ducked, avoiding his attack and getting behind him.
She struck his back as hard as she could, lifting him into the air for less than a second before falling a few meters away.
Mark was now in pain, confused, down one functioning arm and very terrified. He was tired of all this so he decided to just finish it now.
He didn’t bother to aim and just fired with all his energy,or he was about to when a slender hand appeared from a small portal and forced his arm upward, directing his attack to the sky.
Once the impressive pyrotechnic display was over, Mark looked all around, trying to find her, but she was nowhere to be seen. He suddenly felt a presence behind him and felt like he was being threatened by the grim reaper.
He turned around, terrified.
"I surren-"
Before he could finish his statement, Jade’s foot landed on his face with the force of a canon , releasing a strangely satisfying sound resembling a whip.
Teeth and blood flew around in the air as Mark was sent flying backwards until he reached the very edge of the stadium.
He looked like he was about to cry as he forced himself up and saw a familiar figure casting a shadow on him.
"I surrender"
Mark squeezed out
Jade seemed to suddenly snap out of a trance as she stopped her fist only a few centimeters from his face.
"What did you say?" Jade asked, her nervousness returning
"I...i said i surrender. You win, okay? Are you happy?"
Mark spat out indignantly. It was just a match, there was no reason to be so brutal about it.
Jade looked like she still didn’t understand what was going on as she asked a bit nervously.
"I...i won?"
She only now noticed Mark in the state she had put him on the ground.
"Oh my god,are you okay?"
She immediately tried to help him up but Mark flinched and started backing away like she was some kind of demon, and in mark’s eyes, she might as well be.
What the hell was wrong with this girl. She acted like two completely different people when she was in and out of battle. When she was fighting she didn’t tremble or hesitate like she was doing now. Every move she made was precise and calculated, and without a shred of mercy. Remembering how she’d looked a second ago,Mark shuddered. Her eyes were empty,it was like she didn’t even think before acting. Like everything she’d done was just muscle memory.
Jade paused slightly, realizing he was afraid of her.
"Don’t back away. I want to help, really"
Jade slowly reached for his dislocated arm while keeping eye contact to show she meant no harm. With a snap she popped the arm back into place, relieving Mark somewhat.
"Whoo, I’m glad that worked. Z might have given me all those lessons but it’s the first time I’m actually trying it"
Mark was petrified when he heard that. First time? What did she mean by first time? And who the hell teaches people how to dislocate body parts?!
Jade looked at him nervously.
"Are you feeling better? I’ll do anything to help, honest"
Anything?
Mark slowly assessed Jade. Only now did he notice how toned her physique was. His eyes traced her from her slightly muscular but still slender body to her adorable face.
"Hmmm? Anything huh? How about a da-"
Mark suddenly stopped. A chill involuntarily passed down his spine as he felt like death itself had put its cold skeletal hand on his shoulder.
He slowly looked at where it was coming from and saw Jade’s friends. None of them were looking at him directly, but he felt like they had all put knives at his neck. He suddenly saw Neo aim his hand towards him while acting like he was looking somewhere else.
Mark immediately stood up straight. The adrenaline rush from the fear had greatly dulled his pain to the point he barely felt anything.
"Hahahaha, just kidding. What could I possibly ask for? It was a match and you won. Congratulations. Besides a good fight is more than enough for me "
Jade looked at him, worried. He had been on the ground groaning in pain just a second ago, shouldn’t he stay down and rest instead of getting up?
"Are you sure? I’ll really do anything. I can even help carry you back to the infirmary. I’m pretty strong, you know?"
Mark grimaced, trying his best to look like he was smiling gently. There was no way he didn’t know she was strong,he had learned just how strong she was the hard way. The offer was tempting, she had the body, face and character of an angel of course he wanted her to carry him back, what man wouldn’t? But...
His head slowly tilted back to her friends.
"Hahahaha. Miss Jade,i insist. I’m perfectly fine. I wouldn’t want to bother you with something like this "
Mark held back the urge to spit blood and started limping back.
Jade looked carefully and noticed he was limping. Without thinking she quickly went to stop him, putting her arm around him and putting his arm around her shoulder.
"I don’t mind. I’ll help you back"
Mark’s mind was overloaded by both pleasant surprise and absolute terror.
’I’M GOING TO DIE!!! I’M GOING TO DIE! She feels so soft...NO ONE WILL FIND MY BODY!!! She’s so nice and sweet! I HAVEN’T EVEN WRITTEN MY WILL YET!!! Why is she so cute!!! I’M TOO YOUNG TO DIE!!!!!’
"Hmm? Are you okay? You can lean on me if it’s too hard to walk" Jade offered after noticing him trembling.
Mark thought for a few seconds about her offer before deciding screw it! If he was going to die either way, he might as well enjoy his last moments.
Jade helped him towards the infirmary before the Melanie came and ordered her guards to take him, silently glaring at Jade.
"What was that?"
"Looks like you just made your first enemy. Congrats"
Jade looked back at who answered and saw the others behind her.
"Guys! How’d i do?"
"Are you seriously asking us? Just take a look at the guy. You quite literally crushed it... his ribs that is"
Zaria nodded.
"I didn’t know you could do that"
Jade glanced at Zen,a smile plastered on her face.
"Neither did I. Guess I just have a good teacher"
Diane inspected her for a few seconds.
"You look okay, but your dress is ruined. It’s burnt up in so many places "
"Yeah, and I kind of liked it too "
Maximilian shrugged.
"Just don’t fight anymore "
"Yeah I don’t know about you guys, but I’m done with tonight. Zen and i still have this whole show to prepare for "
They all seemed to agree and started walking towards the party, planning to take things easy for the rest of the night.
Sable discreetly pulled Zen aside.
"I knew you were intense, but did you really make that much progress in a month?"
Zen looked at Jade happily skipping about.
"Believe it or not,i hardly understand myself"
For the rest of the evening, they mostly stuffed their faces and drank until they threw up. Then at the appointed time, the dean called for Zen and Neo.
Time to start the show
