The Astral soul system-Chapter 119: More
A loud thud rang out as Darryl fell, unfortunately still somehow conscious as he writhed painfully on the ground, unable to even scream out.
The women tied up looked at Daryll with fear in their eyes, worried that they had gone out of the frying pan and into the furnace
"You left him alive"
Sable said, putting her mask back on
Zaine shrugged.
"Death at this point would be a mercy, and if you want to show him mercy,go ahead.
"Welp, that’s all the exp I’m getting from this place. Time to-"
"We have to help them"
Zaine looked at the trembling women and girls and suddenly had a strange thought. If he could take some of these girls, wouldn’t he be able to cultivate his lust heart flame incredibly fast, not to mention, they didn’t look too bad...
Inside his consciousness, Freya facepalmed.
"I should have seen this coming" she said with a helpless smile
"What’s wrong, he’s a teenager isn’t he? This should be normal " Lilith asked, confused
Freya sighed.
"Exactly, he’s a teenager. And he spent the past three years unconscious."
Lilith gasped as she realized the problem. No wonder the boy seemed so immature and uncontrollable compared to Zen.
"He’s a..."
Sable nodded with the same helpless smile
Back outside, Zaine was still think when he suddenly felt a punch land on his face.
"What the fuck?!" He was originally about to rage out but when he saw it was Sable looking at him like he was a disappointment,he calmed down.
"What was that about?"
"Don’t you ask me that,i know that look on your face. We’re going to help these people and leave, that’s all"
Zaine rolled his eyes and started heading for the door. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Hey you’re not helping me out here?"
"Nope"
Zaine said as he swaggered out of the room.
"Have fun, though"
Sable rolled her eyes and headed to the tied women who all instinctively shivered and tried to back away when they saw her, making her feel like someone had shot her in the heart.
"Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you"
She tried to calm them down but the mask probably didn’t help.
Pulling out her katana, Sable told them to hold still and with a few swings, she broke their bindings one by one. Realizing it was probably best to associate with them as little as possible since she ran the risk of revealing her identity, she decided to leave after freeing their hands, telling them they were free to go.
Immediately she went out, she saw Zaine holding the locks for one of the cages, and with a bit of exertion he snapped it in his hands.
"Look who’s not helping"
Zaine rolled his eyes. He’d only done this because Freya wouldn’t stop nagging him.
After snapping the locks, the people in the cages didn’t come out though, still not trusting them.
"What’s wrong? They’re free to go"
Zaine asked, looking genuinely confused.
"They’re scared"
Zaine and Sable stared for a bit, not knowing what to do. They were both still teenagers, and consequently, immature. They didn’t know how to deal with this.
After a few minutes Zaine just shrugged and yelled loud enough for everyone to hear him.
"Hey,you guys are free to go,all of the gangsters are dead and can’t bother you,so you can stay in the cages as long as you want. We’ve got to go destroy one more of the gangster’s bases so we’ll be leaving now. Oh and you can help yourselves to all of the gang’s shit in here you can find, equipment, money, anything. The gang won’t be needing it and we don’t want it so...go wild"
After saying that, Zaine turned to leave and Sable followed after him, taking one last look at the people. This was the only way they knew to help them: Make sure it couldn’t happen again, at least with this gang.
With her last look, she took her mask off and gave a friendly smile to the people who still refused to come out. They all looked at her, seemingly shocked at her young age.
She chuckled a bit and put her index finger over her lips.
"Shhhh"
She quickly put the mask back on and went out, catching up with Zaine and discreetly sighing. A part of her had been afraid what had happened with the moon had affected the people here too but luckily they seemed fine .
"I wished we could have done more"
Zaine didn’t reply. He had actually considered using soul bridge to try and convince them to come out but he decided not to.
They came out of the warehouse and directly left the base.
"So what do we do now?"
"Find the leader. Too bad i don’t know how to do that".
He had originally hoped he’d find something that would lead him to the leader but with the two pseudo leaders here dead, he had nothing.
Sable suddenly remembered something and started checking her pockets.
"I overheard some of them talking about some other headquarters, like a backup. There was something about that with the crazy lady"
She eventually found what she was looking for. It was a computer chip around the size of a fingernail. She put it into her watch to find out what information was on it and in a few seconds, she had her answer.
"Zen,i think this is it!"
Zaine was about to check it out when he realized what she called him.
"Did you just -?"
"It was an accident, forget about it". Sable quickly said. She still wasn’t use to calling his name.
Zaine looked at her for a bit before deciding to ignore it and checked the holograms display on Sable’s watch.
It was a map. And not only did it lead to the second headquarters, it even showed the details of the buildings layout and gangsters stationed around it and other useful information. It even showed the best route to take to ensure they weren’t seen.
"This is it"
Sable looked Zaine in the eye,an air of determination around her
"Let’s do it. Tonight. Let’s finish it. I can tell we’ve both gotten a little stronger after this whole ordeal. I won’t ask about your increase in strength, but I will ask you to put it to good use . So what do you say... brother?"
"You’re finally speaking my language"
Zaine was all too happy to oblige to her request. He had no intention of stopping now either,he still hadn’t finished his quest.
"We better hurry, it’s really late, and we still need to pick up another mask for you"
They both took a good look at the map, before running off into the night.
They both ran in silence for a few seconds before Sable suddenly looked at him
"Ze... Zaine? "
"What?"
"You can tell I’m not completely human anymore, right? All that stuff about my ability was just to make me feel better?"
Zaine shrugged.
"I don’t know. But I can tell you not being human isn’t as bad as you think. I’m guessing you know I’m not exactly human either. Have you ever seen a human do what I do?"
Sable was suprised to hear that from him. She had honestly believed it was something that the awakening stone had done to him.
"You’re...from another sentient race?"
Zaine shrugged
"I don’t know... but I do know I’m more..."
"More what? More than a human? MORE human?"
Zaine shrugged again.
"I don’t know, just more "
Sable chuckled.
"Well then I guess I’m just "more" too"
"No need to make it difficult. You’re you, even if you is a bitch"
"Aww tha-"
The somber atmosphere was instantly broken as she realized what he said.
"What?"
"Keep up." Zaine said before increasing his speed, dashing past her.
Sable looked at him go, unamused. However a smile slowly cracked on her face. Even if just a little, she felt better about herself.
*****************
Somewhere on the outskirts of the city in an underground bunker with only a luxurious chair at the center with a desk and a couch.
A gangster suddenly barged in
"Boss"
The chair suddenly turned around to reveal a somewhat muscular man. He had a ferocious looking face,a scar over one of his eyes and slick black hair. The sleeves on his shirt were ripped off, showing off his prominent muscles and a tiger tattoo that extended from his shoulder to his wrist.
"I said no one should disturb me. Do i need to rip off one of your hands before any of you show me some damn respect?!"
The gangster bowed immediately, apologizing profusely.
"I’m sorry boss. It’s just, we’ve been trying to contact Bruno and Isla but their we can’t reach them no matter what they do, it’s like they just disappeared. We think something may have happened"
The boss grit his teeth and slammed his fist.
"What?! I always knew that bitch Isla couldn’t be trusted but Bruno?. Has something gone wrong? What’s happening over there"
The gangster quickly answered.
"We’re trying but we can’t reach anyone. It’s like the entire place just went dark"
The bods looked distressed at the news and clenched his fist, staring at the innocent guard who was the only available outlet.
"What about all the other smaller bases, and our businesses.?"
"We still have full control of those sir"
This seemed to put him at ease a bit not completely. That base was his main base of operations and Bruno and Isla were two of his top fighters.
"Boss,do you want us to go check it out?"
"No, keep everything going the way it is, and report to me every thirty minutes"
The gangster hurriedly left once he got his answers, feeling like every second in his boss’s gaze was a second closer to death.
The boss looked at the sofa in the corner of the room that was just conveniently covered by darkness and said with a hint of impatience.
"How long do i have to go along with this plan of yours? When will the rest of my weapons arrive. You better not -"
A high pitched and eerie voice suddenly interrupted him.
"Don’t worry, things are going exactly according to plan, after all, it would probably be much less entertaining if it all ended here, right?. I’ll deal with whatever’s going on "
After that statement a pair of glowing eyes appeared in the corner, glowing an eerie pink that made one feel nauseous just by looking at them.
