59 Symptoms: Chest pains and high irritability

With a loud bang, he closed the fridge door in the kitchen when a crisp soft voice startled him, “What are you doing? Why are you closing my fridge door like it insulted you?” ƒ𝐫𝒆𝐞w𝗲𝚋𝗻૦𝘷e𝙡.c𝑜𝙢

Yi Chen held up the energy drink in his hand and with a click, he opened it while apologizing, “Sorry mom. I just had a terrible day.”

Lin Ruoxi was a little worried. Her son never complained about anything, well, that is from preschool onwards. Even when he got yelled at by the teacher he wouldn’t say anything as though suffering in silence.

But he wasn’t suffering in silence. He was indifferent to it all but today he actually took the initiative to complain.

Placing her palm on Yi Chen’s cheek she asked worriedly, “What happened?” Yi Chen placed his drink on the kitchen counter and explained while looking for a coaster.

“I kept feeling this heaviness on my chest and no matter how hard I tried to get rid of it... it just wouldn’t go away. I was more irritable than usual and I didn’t like that feeling at all. It’s unlike me and I can’t seem to get rid of it,” he said only turning to look at her after he found the coaster.

Lin Ruoxi’s expression wasn’t right. She had some understanding of what her son was experiencing but she couldn’t believe it. He was the most detached person she had ever met.

He was so indifferent to everything that they had to drag him by the leg for him to go to a school dance with a girl now he actually showed interest in something other than training and schoolwork.

“And this feeling does it happen arou-,” she said before pausing abruptly. The one thing she didn’t want to happen had happened and she didn’t want to be the one to help her son realise what had transpired so she changed her words.

.....

“It’s more like a mental thing, not a physical thing so... um, don’t take any medication, okay. It will hopefully go away soon. Oh, and remember not to casually give someone that stripe on your arm. Remember its significance,” she said glancing at his arm covered with his long sleeve t-shirt.

Yi Chen nodded while glancing at her mother’s wrist which had an obvious inky stripe. Plenty of humans mutated at some point during the exodus hence it wasn’t a surprise their family had this quirky mutation among many others. But it was extremely unusual and the most useless mutation in Yi Chen’s eyes.

“Okay,” he replied before walking out of the kitchen. As soon as Lin Ruoxi heard his bedroom door close she ran up the stairs straight into her husband’s study.

Without even knocking she went straight in only to find her husband sitting in his office chair watching a framed map intently. She wanted to ask where he found this old thing but she was more concerned about her agenda.

Bam!

She gently placed her fist on the desk before saying, “Your son is interested in someone and he doesn’t even know it.”

Marshal Yi, “....”

“Ah... yayyy...,” he hesitantly celebrated but stopped when he saw that she wasn’t thrilled about it, “Aren’t we supposed to be happy for him? You said he should find someone soon and he did. Isn’t that a good thing?”

Lin Ruoxi placed her index finger on her chin and paced up and down looking like a physicist trying to solve world problems.

“But that’s not what I meant. I thought he could find a decent girl outside of the military. Someone who can safely stay with us when he gets deployed but..... Two days, it only took two days for him to show interest in someone after being stand-offish about everything for most of his life. I am curious what type of girl would awaken his senses,” she said with a look on her face that had her husband worried half to death.

She looked like a helicopter mum who was about to go snooping through her kid’s things and follow them around in the shadows like a stalker just to find out what they are hiding from her. Knowing Yi Chen’s personality he would soon find out and the two of them would have another cold war.

The last cold war happened after she dragged him by the foot to a school dance when he was ten. After that incident, he didn’t speak to her for months and Marshal Yi had to live through endless nights of his wife going through different stages of anger. He didn’t want to suffer through that again so he immediately talked her out of it,

“Let it go. Maybe it’s just a fling and it will pass. I mean would you have liked it when we were dating for your mother to snoop through your things just to get to me?” he said pulling her over by the wrist.

“No but this is different,” she said feeling like she had been exposed.

“How is it different? He has feelings just like you so how about you stay out of his hair and focus on me instead,” said the Marshal slowly reeling in his wife.

Lin Ruoxi wanted to argue that her son wasn’t exactly like other people but that wouldn’t have sounded right. She could only swallow her words down and said, “But I am still sending him on that blind date. Like you said it must be just a fling.”

Marshal Yi who successfully evaded a major crisis was quite proud of himself that he thought he deserved a reward so he yanked her arm and forced her to sit on his lap. “Sure baby..... whatever makes you happy,” he said gently caressing her perky ass but Lin Ruoxi wasn’t as responsive as he had hoped.

She stared at the old map hanging on the wall with a look of scrutiny. “Did you rob your senior again?”

“Rob is a strong word. He donated it to me,” said the Marshal recalling the ‘donation’ in the morning. That old man really put up a fight but ended up losing miserably. This wasn’t bullying elders but a game of tit for tat between the two of them which was extremely childish and Lin Ruoxi was sick of it.

“You are something else you know that? I am going to bed and you can stay here and admire your loot,” she said before getting off her husband’s lap.

Marshal Yi, “...”

He bet Zi Feiji would taunt him if he finds out that this antique map had ruined his chances of getting some tonight.
