Chapter 143: Chapter 143: A Spur-of-the-Moment Journey
As she was about to put the phone back on the bedside table, it buzzed again with another anonymous text message.
As always, the text contained just a picture... In the picture, Xu Yisen was holding Xia Yuge as they went to a hotel.
Munni pursed her lips, set her phone to airplane mode, put it down again, and lay back on the bed.
However, her sleep quality was already poor, and having been suddenly awakened, she couldn’t find any trace of sleepiness. freewēbnoveℓ.com
After tossing and turning for a while, she sat up in bed, opened the bedside table, and picked up the book to continue reading.
Not until half-past four did she feel drowsy. She quickly put down the book, turned off the light, and lay back down.
At nine in the morning, Munni was startled awake by a nightmare. Just as she sat up in bed, there was a gentle knock on her door.
Munni got up from the bed and saw Yuan Chengmo, standing outside with a serious expression, and asked, puzzled, "Did something happen?"
"Yes." Yuan Chengmo nodded and handed the tablet he was holding to Munni.
The tablet displayed the latest news from Orange Entertainment, the content was...
"Qin Muni, the ex-wife of Xu Yisen, Chairman of Fanshu Group, was furious about the news reported by Orange Entertainment yesterday and angrily contacted the chief editor, threatening to have the news deleted.
Last night, fed up with the insults from netizens, Qin Muni sent the chief editor an email. The email contained a photo from two nights ago (the night of Bai Qigong’s great-grandson’s full moon banquet, when the two left hand in hand in front of the media) of Chairman Xu holding Xia Yuge as they went to a hotel.
Qin Muni’s actions seem to be an attempt to clear her name and shift the blame...
...
Munni quickly browsed the news, her pretty eyebrows knitted tightly together.
"Let me take a look at your email account, perhaps I can find out who hacked it."
"The study computer’s password is the same as the one from university days, do you remember it?"
"Yes."
"Thanks for your hard work, Senior. I’ll go freshen up first."
"It’s quite a task, remember to prepare me a sumptuous breakfast once you’re done freshening up."
Munni’s irritation dissipated instantly due to his teasing, "Got it."
She waved her hand, signaling for Yuan Chengmo to hasten his departure.
With a small laugh, Yuan Chengmo turned and strode towards the study.
When Munni had freshened up and prepared breakfast to bring to the study for Yuan Chengmo, he was still seated at the desk, his fingers flying over the keyboard, inputting lines of code.
"Haven’t figured it out yet?" she asked, putting the tray on the coffee table and sitting on the sofa, glancing sideways at Yuan Chengmo.
Yuan Chengmo closed the pages on the screen one by one, turned off the computer, and then got up to sit opposite Munni.
"I’ve figured it out." After a pause, he glanced at the sumptuous breakfast on the coffee table.
When he looked up at Munni again, his expression carried a deeper contemplation, and his gaze held a newfound seriousness. "Would you like to go on an impromptu trip?"
The sudden question completely surprised Munni, and she asked with curiosity, "Where to?"
"River Village."
Yuan Chengmo had once told her that River Village was a small village in the south of G City and also the location of the anonymous IP he had tracked.
It seemed Yuan Chengmo planned to take her to find that anonymous person.
"Alright, let’s go."
She nodded softly, and Yuan Chengmo’s lips curved slightly. He raised his wrist to check the time on his watch; it was already half-past ten.
Earlier that morning, Yuan Chenghe had called again, informing him that if he wasn’t home by noon, Yuan Chenghe would personally come to fetch him.
