The Amazing Strike Back: Mommy Wants To Revenge!-Chapter 373: Truly His Own Flesh and Blood
Anna Thornton is driving back to Sterling Residence and occasionally checks on Lola and Pop through the rearview mirror.
The two little ones are obediently sitting in their child seats, each busy with their own tasks.
Lola doesn’t talk much. Ever since he met Finn Grant, he’s been looking somber, as if he’s deep in thought, occasionally furrowing his little brow, looking as serious as a little old man.
As for Pop, the little one started rifling through her backpack as soon as she got into the car.
She carefully takes out a card from the backpack, then removes the little star sticker awarded by the teacher today from her forehead and sticks it on the card.
"Sweetie, what are you doing?" Anna asks her.
Pop gives a mysterious giggle and folds the card away again.
Hearing this, Lola turns to glance at her and explains, "She’s making a card as a birthday gift for that person."
Lola has never called Conrad Sterling ’Dad’, and especially after noticing the increasing conflicts between Anna and Conrad, he straightforwardly refers to him as ’that person’.
Conrad Sterling is indeed miserable, not even recognized by name by his own son.
But who told him to mess up Mom’s birthday?
Lola is a firm ’Mom-first advocate’, whether President Sterling is deserving a name entirely depends on Anna Thornton’s mood.
Luckily, President Sterling has Pop, who’s like a little quilted jacket close to the heart.
Yesterday, Granny Chandler was mentioning to Anna Thornton that it was President Sterling’s birthday, and Pop overheard.
The little one not only listened but remembered.
When it’s Mom’s birthday, Pop makes a card for her by hand, and now Dad has to have one too.
Plus, Dad wanted to have dinner with Mom yesterday but didn’t make it happen, so Pop arranged it for him.
To be honest, if it weren’t for Pop, Anna Thornton wouldn’t dream of having dinner with Conrad Sterling in a hundred lifetimes.
Especially thinking about what that man did to her last night.
She deliberately picked a seat far away from Conrad Sterling. After all, Sterling Residence’s dining hall is as large as half a restaurant’s main lounge, as long as she doesn’t make eye contact, she can pretend the man doesn’t exist.
However, the eager Pop insisted on pulling Mom up and bringing her to the closest seat by Dad before letting her sit down.
Conrad Sterling secretly chuckled to himself, looking appreciatively at Pop, truly his own.
And Anna Thornton could only scoff, helplessly glancing at little Pop.
Ha, truly his own!
Granny Chandler, seeing the family finally gathered at the dining table, had already asked the chef to prepare last night’s dishes again.
"President Sterling, our hometown’s tradition counts a birthday from the exact moment of birth, spanning twenty-four hours forward, as the first day. What time were you born?"
"Nine o’clock in the evening!"
"That’s just perfect; the birthday hasn’t technically passed yet. A family dinner celebrating together is just right!"
Granny Chandler’s talk, Anna Thornton wonders if she could make dead things come to life with her eyes open.
Never heard of such a way to calculate a birthday, is it that far-fetched?
No matter if it is, as long as Conrad Sterling thinks this calculation works, and he’s happy, it’s fine.
Granny Chandler is quite competent, not only remaking the dishes according to yesterday’s but also ordering a birthday cake.
When Pop sees the cake, her eyes twinkle.
Seeing Dad place candles on, her whole little round body is almost climbing onto the table.
Conrad Sterling notices her craving, first scoops a spoonful of cream to feed to the little one.
Anyway, Conrad Sterling never believed in birthday wishes.
It’s just that Granny Chandler, beside him, kept emphasizing ritual, so Conrad Sterling symbolically placed a candle.
Yet, after lighting it, the atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
No one voluntarily sang the birthday song for him, and Conrad Sterling certainly wouldn’t sing it himself.
He also didn’t make a wish!
And so the atmosphere remained stuck!
Anna remained silent, Lola wouldn’t sing either, Granny Chandler hurriedly signalled to little Pop. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
This was the time for the irresistibly adorable and considerate little quilted jacket to step up.
However, Pop was already eating, head down, biting into the sweet cream, her mouth and nose smeared all around, shaking her head delightedly, forgetting how to sing the birthday song.
Granny Chandler originally planned to shamelessly kick things off to lighten the mood.
However, before she opened her mouth, Conrad Sterling had already blown out the candle, pushing the entire birthday cake towards Pop.
Afterwards, he got up and went upstairs!
Oh, Granny Chandler sighed, "Miss Thornton, President Sterling seems in a rather bad mood."
"I’ve already had dinner with him, what more does he want?" Anna Thornton couldn’t care less, dividing a slice of cake for Pop and Lola each on their plates.
The man’s an adult, responsible for his emotions himself, do they really have to cater to him?
She’s long said it: that man’s aloof and eccentric, suited to be by himself alone.
In the study—
The ’loner’ Conrad Sterling stares at the computer screen, manipulating Hawthorne Corporation’s stock prices.
Lately, everyone’s saying Hawthorne Family’s particularly unfortunate, first Mason Hawthorne exploded with the y scandal, and now someone steps forward to unveil the truth about the fire incident last year at a Hawthorne Group-constructed estate. Due to inadequate fire safety measures, delayed rescue led to a family of three perishing in the flames.
The estate was a major business of Hawthorne Group, comprising seventy percent of income sources. Now exposed to building hazards and fire safety issues, the resultant social debate and client concerns are enough to drive them nuts.
Last year, for the deceased family of three, Mason Hawthorne had already negotiated a massive compensation, fully sealing off the news.
Not sure why it’s suddenly surfaced again this year, the deceased family of three included a couple and a seven-year-old child, now the grandparents are silently sitting outside Hawthorne Group’s entrance demanding an explanation.
Plus, refusing any monetary settlement, they must proceed with legal actions.
And they’re making it big in the media, allowing public oversight, demanding a fair judgment.
The Hawthorne Family Head is probably severely troubled now, with burgeoning domestic and external threats already enough to worry; they hadn’t foreseen the stock market pressure too.
Among the Four Great Families, there’s still fellowship, now with Hawthorne encountering difficulties, the other families with years of relationship won’t swiftly make a move; they fear Hawthorne’s retribution if they overcome the hardship in the future.
But Conrad Sterling is unafraid!
He has no engagement with Hawthorne; whether to brazenly kick them when down depends entirely on his mood.
Right now his mood is particularly foul!
So, tough luck for them!
Having finished the cake, Anna Thornton seldom has time to put both little ones to bed.
After coaxing Pop and Lola asleep, she meticulously checks the tucked-in blankets. Especially Pop, this little one loves to kick her legs in sleep, even in dreams her mouth smacks. Presumably, with today’s joyful cake-eating, in her dreams, she imagines cream at her lips, licking herself all over.
Anna Thornton finds her incredibly adorably goofy, can’t help but squeeze her little cheeks, pecking twice.
As she quietly leaves the room, one of the little ones on the bed wakes up.
Lola lifts the blanket, sitting up a bit disheartened.
Mom only kissed the sister, not him.
Anna Thornton didn’t cake with favor; since Lola didn’t adapt to overly intimate gestures, she started adjusting her approach to the kids.
Boys, perhaps not like Pop’s adorable little girl, wouldn’t enjoy clinginess.
Actually, Lola quite likes mom’s kisses.
After all, as boys grow up, they won’t have such treatment.
Now, it’s prematurely lost!
Who told Lola to inherit Conrad Sterling’s ’verbal denial but honest actions’ nature?
He couldn’t even utter a true delight.
The little one was so upset in the middle of the night that he couldn’t sleep and pulled out the little black notebook to secretly jot down against his dad, President Sterling.
In bold!
