Chapter 85: Your mother’s dirty secrets

Zenna held on his shoulder tightened as they both swayed with the rhythm of the music. Suddenly he dipped her, making her breath catch in her throat.

Radulf smiled and pulled her up, his nose brushing hers now. "You were not lying about knowing the dance. You are quite versed in it," he said.

"You never believe me, do you?" Zenna frowned at him.

"I do believe you now," he answered. "I even told everyone earlier how you kept my pack alive. They won’t gossip about you anymore," Radulf asserted. He raised her hand and twirled her before pulling her in his embrace again. This time his hands were wrapping around her lower waist while her hands circled around his neck.

"Did you ever miss me during the war time?" Zenna asked that question out of the blue.

"I already answered you," Radulf said.

"What if it’s a lie? I’m surprised you never removed the ring on your finger. I thought you hated that we were married and I was your wife. I thought the marriage was always meaningless to you," Zenna stated. "Is this marriage still nameless in your eyes?"

"No," Radulf promptly answered. "It has a certain meaning now," he stated. His eyes lingered on her lips, and all he could think in that moment was to kiss her like there was no tomorrow. He listened to his heart and kissed her, not caring how many eyes could be on them.

Zenna had stiffened for a moment. She fluttered her eyes shut, lowering her one hand to his chest to press on it so that he would stop. To her surprise, Radulf tenderly placed his hand above hers.

Their bodies had stilled in the middle of the dance floor, not realizing that by now they had captured everyone’s eyes.

Zenna was the first one to pull away and lowered her gaze in shame while Radulf smiled slowly. "Please continue with your dances," he told the other couples. Taking Zenna out of the dance floor, he brought her to the resting area.

"Why did you start it there? Don’t you feel shame in doing such acts in public?" Zenna grumbled.

"Why should I feel shame in kissing you? You are unreadable sometimes," Radulf rolled his eyes and watched a waiter heading away with the drinks. He stopped him, asking for the wine.

"Would you like to drink too?" Radulf asked her.

"No," Zenna refused to take the drink. Radulf held the glass and sat next to her on the sofa, sipping the wine slowly. He noticed how she covered her thigh as she adjusted her dress.

"Radulf, Zenna, glad to see you both here!" Gregor’s voice fell upon their ears. Radulf noticed how Zenna’s eyes lit up seeing her friend there.

"You two looked great out there," Gregor said, taking a seat across from them. "Radulf is finally becoming a good husband to Zenna," he asserted.

"Shouldn’t you enjoy the ball? Find someone to dance with," Radulf said, not wanting Gregor to be there and destroy their private space.

"Radulf, don’t speak in such a way," she urged. Zenna saw Gregor didn’t look well. "Why do you look so down?"

"Am I? It must be because of work." Gregor brushed it off with an excuse.

"Don’t lie. You can tell me. Is it because of that matter?" Zenna asked, referring to his marriage.

"Am I the only unaware person here? What’s going on?" Radulf asked, lowering the glass in his hand.

"Nothing," Gregor replied, not wanting to share the matter with an obnoxious man like Radulf.

"Here you are, Gregor!" Aria’s voice boomed through, sending a ripple of unease on his face.

Zenna promptly stood up from her in respect, so did Gregor. However, Radulf didn’t stand up. Instead, he enjoyed the wine.

"Zenna, do you know Gregor has gotten a mate?" Aria asked. Hearing the princess’s words, Zenna furrowed her brows together and gazed at Gregor, who looked uncomfortable.

"Father wants me and Gregor to get married. But now, he has a mate. However, the question is where is Gregor’s mate? Do you know about his mate? I am curious to meet the mate of the man who was chosen for me," Aria said, her voice dripping with an unfamiliar disdain.

"I didn’t bring her to the ball, Your Highness," Gregor replied. "You openly threatened me the other day you might take the life of my mate, so I felt it’s better to keep her hidden," he asserted.

Zenna’s eyes widened as she gazed at Aria in shock. ’Why is she the same as our father?’ she thought, feeling worried for Gregor. Everything was clear to her now—why did Gregor look out of place?

"I thought only the Alpha King knew how to make threats. Even his daughter is the same," Radulf intervened.

"I never threatened Gregor," Aria stated. "He must have taken the wrong meaning of my words. And how dare you make such a blatant remark against my father?"

"I didn’t make any blatant remarks, Your Highness. You are taking the wrong meaning of my words. It is a truth that I was being threatened four years ago when I had no choice but to accept the three conditions of the Alpha King," Radulf carefully and smartly tackled her question.

"Zenna, can you come with me for a moment?" Aria asked her.

"Forgive me, Princess Aria," Radulf finally left his seat and stood between them. "I need my wife to be with me. It’s a ball, not a family gathering."

"Radulf, she and I are sisters," Aria said. "And you cannot act in such a way in front of the royalty," she reminded him.

"Please leave, Your Highness. There’s no use threatening me," Radulf’s eyes shone as they glared at Aria.

Zenna held Radulf’s arm, wanting him to stop.

"I will tell my father how you—"

"Please do tell His Majesty, and I will make sure I reveal your mother’s dirty secrets to the world," Radulf openly threatened her. "The Luna Queen knows what I meant by this. So, make sure to ask your dear mother before threatening me, Princess Aria."

He held Zenna’s hand and dragged her out of the ball, not wanting to stay there and create unnecessary troubles for Zenna.
