The Alpha's Forsaken Feisty Mate-Chapter 132: Radulf is a war hero
Gregor allowed Aster to fasten the bracelet around his wrist, watching as her delicate fingers secured the clasp. Fortunately, it wasn’t too tight—it fit just right. He glanced down at it for a moment, feeling the smooth pearls against his skin. More than the piece itself, he cherished the sentiment behind it.
He liked the way she accepted him so fully, without hesitation or doubt. And in truth, he felt the same way about her.
Aster gently lowered his hand and lifted her gaze to meet his. A curious glint flickered in her eyes as she asked, "Don’t you want to know more about me?"
Gregor’s lips curved slightly. "I do," he admitted. "But I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable with too many questions."
Aster’s smile deepened at his thoughtfulness. "I met your mother this morning," she said. "She’s such a sweet lady."
Gregor’s eyes softened at the mention of his mother. "She is," he agreed.
Aster studied Gregor’s expression. "You never asked me about my family," she said. "After I told you I was banished, you didn’t even question where they were."
Gregor met her gaze. "I thought you’d tell me when you were ready."
Aster exhaled softly, then turned away, walking over to the bed. She sat down, her hands resting on her lap as she lowered her head slightly. "My family never opposed the Alpha’s judgment," she admitted. "I suppose it was easier that way. My mother is no longer alive, so no one really cared what happened to me."
Gregor frowned. "What about your father?"
"He passed away last year," Aster replied. "After that, I was under my brothers’ protection. We’re from a Beta family that serves the Alpha’s household, but when I thrashed him, my brothers believed his decision to banish me was justified."
Gregor’s jaw tightened. "Theodore is the Alpha, right?"
"Yes." Aster’s fingers curled into the fabric of her dress. "I don’t understand how men like him live such dignified lives after making others suffer." Her voice carried a resentment.
A brief silence settled between them before Gregor spoke again.
"I plan to settle down with you and marry you in the future."
Aster’s breath hitched, her eyes snapping up to meet his. For a moment, she forgot to blink, caught off guard by the certainty in his words.
"And for that," Gregor continued, "my parents and I wish to meet your family. However, if you think we shouldn’t, then we won’t." He watched her carefully, waiting for her response.
Aster hesitated, her fingers tracing the edge of the blanket absentmindedly. "If my parents were alive, they would have been happy to hear this," she admitted. "But now... I don’t even know if I should tell my brothers or not."
Gregor nodded in understanding. "Then how about you take some time to think about it?" he suggested, leaning casually against the bedpost.
Aster sighed softly. "Hmm. I will think about it then." She lifted her gaze and added, "For the time I’m here, I can help your pack. I’m good at running and even fighting."
Gregor chuckled, a glint of amusement in his eyes. "That, I’ve already seen. You gave our warrior wolves a hard time—they couldn’t even catch you."
Aster pursed her lips with a thoughtful gaze.
"You don’t need to work," Gregor said gently. "Instead, take this time to enjoy yourself. Explore things here. The past few months must have been difficult for you." He hesitated before asking, "How did you manage to live by yourself?"
Aster exhaled, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I worked for a household in another town," she explained. "But after the lady of the house got married, I was asked to leave as well. After that, I just took on whatever jobs I could to earn money." She let out a small sigh. "In my last job, I ended up angering my employer, and he kicked me out."
Gregor raised an eyebrow. "What did you do?"
Aster shrugged. "I may have been... a little too blunt," she admitted. "I think I need to do something about my odd temper."
Gregor chuckled, shaking his head. He had already noticed her fiery nature, but hearing her say it so candidly amused him. Yet beneath his smile, he couldn’t help but admire her resilience. His mate wasn’t just any woman—she was someone who had fought her way through life, surviving against all odds.
"I have someone I would like you to introduce with," Gregor suddenly said.
"Huh? Who?" Aster asked.
"My childhood friend," Gregor replied. "But she is heading out of the city for a few days with her husband. So, after she returns we will visit her together," he suggested.
"Your childhood friend is a woman!?" Aster exclaimed in shock.
"Yes. Why?" Gregor inquired.
"It’s just... Men and women can’t be friends," Aster replied.
"That’s not true," Gregor said.
"So, what’s the name of your childhood friend?" Aster inquired with curiosity.
"Zenna," Gregor answered.
Aster’s eyes widened in shock. "The illegitimate daughter of the Alpha King!? Isn’t she married to a traitor’s son?"
Gregor’s smile faded instantly. His gaze darkened slightly. "Your words are rude, Aster," he said. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Aster immediately regretted her reaction. Lowering her eyes, she murmured, "Forgive me. That’s just what I’ve heard. I apologize if I’ve offended you."
Gregor studied her for a moment before responding, "Radulf is a war hero. You may not know, but he led the battle at the Western Frontier and returned victorious after four years. His father’s name was tainted by politics, but I don’t believe he was a traitor."
Aster bit her lip, realizing she had spoken without knowing the full truth. "I’m sorry," she said sincerely. "I only knew of the rumors about them. I didn’t mean to offend you or disrespect them."
Gregor’s gaze softened slightly. "Just be careful with what you believe. Not everything people say is true."
Aster nodded. "I’ll remember that, Gregor."
