Chapter 248: A Need To Know (Ch.248)

Nile paced uneasily, his brows furrowed in deep thought and all the while, Kristen watched his mate in quiet concern.

"Nile, calm yourself. This is unlike you." Kristen said after a short moment of just watching his mate’s restlessness.

"Unlike me?" Nile quizzed, a mirthless chuckle accompanying his words.

Nile did not believe there was still time to contemplate what was like him and what was not.

"It is also unlike me to be in the dark about anything. I always know Kris... I always know first! The Creator let’s me see it before it even happens, I have trusted in this! I believed it as much as I believed in my own name, in my title as a spirit guide!" Nile hissed.

"Nile..." Kristen tried but Nile shook his head firmly.

"I am the spirit guide of Crimson Moon! While my kin are tasked with protecting our Alpha, it is my job to safeguard her soul! Keep her from harm beyond her control! And this is all dependent on one thing, that I have to know!" Nile hissed.

"The Creator has shown me nothing, yet I know something is wrong with Zariah. Terribly wrong! And it is something out of the ordinary... that is within my jurisdiction! If I do not know, how can I keep her safe?!" Nile carried on pacing.

Kristen stared at his mate in deep concern, knowing the usually calm spirit guide would only react in this manner when he was at his wits end.

Kristen was also deeply concerned about Zariah, even more so now that Nile found Zariah’s actions very worrisome.

Kristen did know Zariah had her secrets, though she was his own cousin, they had not had enough time to bond and were not entirely close, but even Kristen could tell that something was off, even when he did not know Zariah for long enough to have anything to make a comparison.

Furthermore, Kristen did not doubt Nile’s senses in the slightest, Nile had long suspected something was off and this outburst was not unexpected, it had been long coming and today had been the final straw.

And Nile’s unease ached Kristen’s heart terribly.

Kristen got up to his feet and walked over to Nile, taking a hold of his hand, Kristen interlaced their fingers.

"Sit...sit and speak." Kristen coaxed.

He pulled Nile along with him back to the bed and pressed down on his shoulders, making him sit and Nile reluctantly complied.

Kristen then crouched down before Nile, staring at him. He gently brushed back a strand of hair that fell over Nile’s face.

"If the Creator does not reveal it to you, have you perhaps tried asking?" Kristen asked Nile, intent on seeking a solution for his mate.

Nile’s brows furrowed slightly at that, as though Kristen’s words were unexpected.

"I know some oracles consider it against the Creator’s will to seek a revelation that was not meant to be revealed to you, but how are you to know if you do not try asking? If you ask and nothing is revealed, then...at least then you would know the Creator’s will for certain." Kristen explained his words further.

"I...well, though I usually do not have to as my visions come to me when they should, but I have scryed on a few occasions to seek the Creator’s will...it is only that, within the Crimson Barrier, my spirit trail condenses natural energy in surplus."

"To broach the veil with the divine comes easy, but out here... the energy is too sparse, there is no suitable point to scry." Nile replied with a shake of his head.

"Well, if you cannot reach the spirit trail, there must be somewhere else on this side of the barrier that condenses enough natural energy to support you." Kristen said thoughtfully.

"Certainly not in the Ethereal Domain, I would have sensed it already." Nile murmured.

"Then... come with me to the Sea Kingdom." Kristen said to Nile.

"The Sea Kingdom...there would definitely be such an untainted place. Why did I never think of it?" Nile muttered in bafflement.

"After what happened the last time, you have been exposed to the darker sides of the Sea Kingdom and I know you do not favor it. But this time, I will show you only the beauty of my home." Kristen vowed to Nile.

"But Zariah..." Nile contemplated.

"If you report to Zariah, she will never consent to it. But the only way to find the answers you seek lies in the Sea Kingdom. We will return in time for the challenge, Allen will be by Zariah’s side while we are gone." Kristen said to Nile gently.

Nile was silent for a moment before he nodded his head to show his approval.

The sea was calm and almost still at this depth, where its bed was within sight, just some distance below the air bubble that supported Nile’s breathing.

It was also treacherously dark, difficult to see even a short distance ahead and all around them, they were surrounded by sea caves.

But unlike the parts of the Sea Kingdom that were populated by the Mers, these parts were desolate and looked untouched by the passing of time.

Nile could already sense that thick and intense natural energy that sent a thrill rushing through him. It was condensed all around him, even more surplus than the spirit trail could afford.

Nile glanced around, seeking out a suitable spot to begin his scrying, and Nile soon found one, a small space nestled between large rocks at the bed of the sea.

"Go on, I will stand guard." Kristen reassured Nile, his tail swaying gently, the only tell tale of the sea’s gentle yet ever changing nature. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Will it be okay? Your kind stays clear of these parts for a reason." Nile worried.

"I am a Prince of the Sea, nothing dares harm me." Kristen reminded, his smile gentle.

Kristen nudged the bubble slightly and it safely carried Nile over to the small, hidden spot.
