The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 221: The Answers You Seek ()
Lucas pursed his lips, clearly unwilling to provide Zariah with an answer.
"I could find him myself as well, Lucas and you know that, this is just a formality. Ultimately, I will get the answers I seek and I will have them within the hour...you may decide how I go about that." Zariah made it clear to Lucas.
"With all due respect, Alpha Zariah, this is the Ethereal Palace. You cannot do as you please." Declan spoke up.
Zariah raised a brow at that, tilting her head to the side.
"And I am still the Crimson Alpha, anywhere under the Creator’s skies...there is nothing I do not dare do." Zariah replied blankly.
"Lucas, we do not mean Askel any harm and if we did, we would already have harmed him long ago. However, if there is something wrong with Askel, Zariah should know about it... regardless of your personal thoughts on the matter." Allen reasoned.
Lucas’s brows twitched slightly but he nodded his head.
"I cannot say, but I will take you down...you may see for yourself." Lucas said to Zariah.
"Lucas! Askel would never approve!" Declan hissed in disagreement.
"At this time, in Askel’s absence, it is within my authority to make decisions according to my own discretion. This will come to light one day or the next... she is Askel’s mate, she should know that every action holds more consequence than she can imagine." Lucas replied to Declan though his gaze was fixed on Zariah.
"Just you alone, Alpha Zariah. Your subordinates cannot come along." Lucas said as he headed out of the office.
Zariah passed a look to Allen, nodding slightly before she followed after Lucas.
They walked in absolute silence for a short time before Lucas interrupted the silence.
"Do you blame Askel... for his actions in the cave?" Lucas asked Zariah.
Zariah did not respond immediately, any other time, she would have simply made it clear to Lucas that it was no business of his,
But this time, Lucas’s tone was different. It was not pressing or insistent on an answer, instead he just sounded exhausted.
"I do not." Zariah replied simply.
"The month is up. Do you intend to choose Askel over Caedmon...or is Caedmon your choice?" Lucas asked.
Zariah did not respond for a moment and Lucas concluded Zariah would not answer.
"I have overstepped." Lucas said.
"I cannot...live without Askel. That is the only thing I am certain of." Zariah replied simply.
Lucas exhaled an audible breath of relief at Zariah’s honest response.
They soon arrived at Askel’s quarters. Though Zariah knew it was Askel’s quarters, she had not been here often.
Lucas reached for the door but was prevented by a familiar voice.
"What do you think you are doing, Lucas?!" Queen Sancia demanded,
She stormed towards them from down the hall and she was accompanied by a young woman Zariah was not certain she had ever seen before.
Zariah stood calmly even as a fuming Queen Sancia came up to them.
"Your Grace, do not interfere with this." Lucas said, turning to face Queen Sancia with a sigh.
"You do not tell me what to do! How dare you bring her here?!" Queen Sancia hissed.
"And you!" Queen Sancia whirled around to face Zariah.
"How dare you show your face here?! After all you have done?! Have you not put my son through enough?!" Queen Sancia snarled.
"What do you want to hear from me? You did not favour me even before any of this happened. I had just awakened from a coma when you already began plotting to separate Askel and I... I have fulfilled your wish this past month, you should thank me, do not seek a cause to justify yourself and be direct." Zariah replied directly, her tone perfectly calm.
"You..." Queen Sancia began to say but seemed to think better of it considering their environment.
"You have never been a good fit for my son. He would not be in the condition he is now, but for you constantly hurting him... I will never approve of this and Askel will be taking a new mate, Vivienne will be Askel’s mate." Queen Sancia made clear in a much calmer tone.
Zariah guessed the Vivienne Queen Sancia spoke of was the young woman who had accompanied her.
Zariah could feel Vivienne’s gaze on her and the young woman gave off an aura since arriving that made Zariah guess there was something to her presence.
Zariah did not even glance over at the young woman, she only acknowledged Queen Sancia.
"If that is Askel’s decision, I will not oppose it. But I will hear those words from Askel himself and not you, Your Grace. Now, we both know you cannot block my path, so put an end to this." Zariah said blankly.
Queen Sancia hissed in wrath and stormed away. The young woman Vivienne lingered for a moment more, walking up to Zariah.
"I have heard much about you, Alpha Zariah. I am Vivienne, Askel and I were close friends from childhood and I only recently returned to the pack, so we have not yet been introduced." Vivienne introduced.
Zariah finally passed her a glance before she reverted her gaze back to Lucas.
"Lucas, open it." Zariah returned her attention to Lucas.
Lucas stared after Queen Sancia’s retreating form for a short time before pushing open the door and he then stepped aside to let Zariah through.
The moment Zariah stepped into the room, she was hit with a wave of Askel’s familiar, intoxicating scent, despite her much dimmer senses.
’Askel is close... but where exactly?’
Zariah’s gaze trailed Lucas who walked deeper into the room before he stopped at a particular spot and leaned down, opening a trap door in the ground.
Zariah raised a brow at that, she slowly walked over to the trap door, peering down into what she could only conclude was an abyss of darkness before she passed a questioning glance to Lucas.
"All the answers you seek are down there." Lucas said to Zariah.
