Chapter 215: Fate Also Makes Wrong Choices (Ch.215)

Askel walked down the halls of the ethereal palace, heading for his quarters. His hands were clenched into tight fists by his sides and his gaze was blank.

Down the hallway, Vivienne had just turned a corner and setting eyes on Askel, she hurried over to him in excitement.

"Your Grace!" Vivienne exclaimed, stopping by Askel’s side.

"You have barely been out of your quarters recently. Are you out on a walk?" Vivienne asked Askel.

Much to her dismay, Askel neither recognized her presence nor her words but instead just continued on his way down the hallway, not a single word said.

Vivienne gritted her teeth and was about to go after Askel but her path was blocked by Lucas.

"His Grace wishes to be alone, you will leave him be." Lucas instructed in a tone that left no room for arguments.

Lucas did not wait to see Vivienne’s reaction or hear what she had to say, he followed after Askel without wasting a moment.

The two walked on in complete silence until they arrived at Askel’s quarters and Lucas quickly stepped forward, pushing open the door for Askel to go through.

Lucas went in after Askel and shut the door behind them.

For a moment, Askel just stood, his back faced to Lucas.

"Askel... are you alright?" Lucas asked hesitantly.

Askel slowly turned around, revealing his pitch black eyes. More than that, blackened veins lined the sides of his face and neck and Lucas was pretty sure it was the same throughout the rest of his body.

"By the Creator!" Lucas exclaimed in panic.

Lucas knew what this meant, the beast was on the surface and it was unlike all the other times it had threatened to take control recently, no... this was one of those times where it would completely and absolutely suppress Askel’s consciousness.

The beast was cruel and uncontrollable, impossible to tame. Askel had battled with it for dominance most of his life and while for the most part Askel had been able to keep his head above the surface, there were times like this when everything came crashing down.

Times when overwhelming emotions weakened Askel’s mind barriers and he could no longer resist the influence of the beast.

"It will... take...full control...any moment now... the basement..." Askel said to Lucas with difficulty.

Lucas immediately got to work, jogging over to the hidden entrance of Askel’s underground basement, Lucas opened it up, stepping to the side so Askel could make his way down.

Lucas followed behind Askel all the way to the platform from which were hung those familiar chains of silver that would hold Askel down and keep the beast in check till Askel could reclaim his mind.

Askel climbed up to the platform with obvious difficulty, the battle for control of his mind was already fully underway and Lucas could sense it.

Askel’s aura fluctuated unsteadily and his muscles twitched, his claws were elongated, threatening a partial shift.

Askel slowly lowered himself to his knees and then he looked up at Lucas.

"Quickly, do it!" Askel ordered his second in command in a firm tone.

Lucas’s heart sank to the pit of his stomach as he also climbed up to the platform and took hold of the first pair of silver cuffs.

The silver burned straight into Lucas’s palm and he did not try to protect himself, not when he knew he was about to deal an even greater pain to his best friend and Alpha.

Lucas ignored the pain of the silver burning into his palm, staring hesitantly at Askel.

Lucas admitted he had been tasked with this difficult duty a handful of times before this but each time was just as torturous as the first, it never got any easier.

"Do it!" Askel pressed urgently.

Lucas understood Askel’s urgency, if Askel fully lost control, it would be too late to attempt to restrain the beast then, the beast was unstoppable.

It was only now Lucas stood a chance with Askel still being on the surface.

Lucas sucked in a sharp breath, his eyes stung as tears formed but he blinked them away sharply, keeping a straight face.

Lucas lowered himself to a knee and placed the first pair of silver cuffs around Askel’s ankle, hooking them up to the ground so they would not budge at any point.

Lucas winced visibly as he heard that sizzling sound as the silver burned through to Askel’s skin but Askel barely gave any reaction. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Lucas then took another pair of silver cuffs and clasped them around Askel’s wrist, hooking them up to the silver chains that hung from the bar.

Lucas took the final silver cuff, much larger than the other two and he slowly placed it around Askel’s neck, his hands trembled slightly as he clasped them, trying his best to ignore the sound and sight of Askel’s skin burned by the silver.

"I hurt...her... I deserve... this..." Askel muttered with difficulty.

Lucas’s heart constricted in pain at those words. How could anyone understand Askel’s struggles?

Blood dripped down the side of Askel’s lips as his canines elongated and pierced his own skin.

Lucas caught glimpses of fur beneath Askel’s clothing and Lucas knew that in any moment now, the beast would force a partial shift, leaving Askel in a state of being neither human nor wolf.

"Leave now... I do... not want you... to see me... like this..." Askel said to Lucas with difficulty.

Lucas sucked in a sharp breath and nodded his head.

"Get back to yourself soon, Askel. Dechlan is out doing all he can to find the rogue killing demon, he will be devastated to see you like this..." Lucas said to Askel.

Lucas stepped down from the platform, he lowered his head to a bow of respect before he turned and took his leave, his hands clenched into fists at his sides.

As the basement door was shut, Lucas caught a brief and fleeting sound of a sob that tore straight at his heart.

"Maybe Queen Sancia was right...you may be destined for each other, but you bring each other more pain... perhaps even fate makes the wrong choices..." Lucas murmured to himself.
