Chapter 1004: BONUS Chapter: LOU

"Cane, wake up," Iris said, she caressed his cheek, she had been trying to wake him up for more than fifteen minutes now. "You need to take your medicine, okay?"

It was almost unbearable to see Cane right now. In the past, he was overly alerted with his surroundings, he had never lowered his guard down, even when he was asleep.

A simple noise would be able to wake him up, but it was different right now.

Iris had been trying to wake him up, but he was still fast asleep. If it was not because Cane needed to take his medicine, she wouldn’t have a heart to wake him up as well.

Even though the medicine didn’t really have any effect, but it would be able to give his body a little bit of strength.

"Cane..." Iris nuzzled his nose with hers and kissed his lips. "Come, wake up and drink your medicine, after that, you need to eat, only then you can sleep again. Sleepyhead." Iris giggled with the endearment name she called him, but it was an empty laugh. In the past, it would be her, who would easily fall asleep. "Come on, you big bad wolf."

Cane furrowed his brows, he opened his eyes sleepily and looked at Iris. "Good morning."

Iris chuckled. "It’s afternoon, love."

"I missed you."

"I missed you too." Iris kissed his lips.

"I have a long dream."

"I hope it’s a good dream."

"I don’t know. I don’t remember, but I feel happy."

Iris smiled at that. Whatever that dream was, as long as it made him happy, it was enough. Iris then helped Cane to drink his medicine and ate his food.

He didn’t have a good appetite. He ate so little.

"You ate like a bird," Iris commented and this made Cane smiled.

"You used to eat like a bird too."

That was a good day, where Cane remembered everything, but after that, there was a long bad day, where he didn’t remember anything at all. He didn’t even remember himself and spent most of the time sleeping.

Iris was hopeless, she was no longer be able to cry and withdrawn from the state affair, which now was being handled by their sons, thankfully, there were a lot of people, who helped the twins and they could understand the situation of their parents.

She prayed that miracle would happen. She spent her night, staring at Cane’s face, because she was afraid if she fell asleep and she woke up to find out he was no longer with her...

She didn’t want to miss every second she had with him.

And one day, on a bright beautiful day, when Cane was having his bad time to remember, Lou came. He barged into their bedroom and made a lot of commotion.

Because everyone knew it was Lou and they were well aware the relationship between their sovereign with this merchant, the guards didn’t really stop him.

"Iris! Iris!" Lou bounced from the door, until he found her.

"Lou, you can’t shout here," Iris warned him.

"This is great! This is really great!" Lou said, he stopped in front of her and then grinned. "Anyway, you look beautiful today."

Iris rolled her eyes. She was already immune with his antics.

"What do you want to tell me?" There must be something extremely important that could make Lou act like this.

But, before he answered her question, Lou shifted his attention toward Cane. "Does he have a bad day?"

All of them knew what it meant for Cane to have a bad day.

"Yes." Iris tried to appear tough, but the sadness was palpable in her eyes.

"Too bad." Lou clicked his tongue.

"Where have you been?" Iris didn’t want to hear anything about that, currently, Cane was sitting near the window, basking in the warmth of light in the summer afternoon.

Lou had gone missing for a month now and no one could find out where he was, but Iris knew. He had been moving around all over the continent by the portal he created. She didn’t know what he was doing, but she knew it wouldn’t be something bad.

Lou would have never gone from the capital city and left the twins if it was not an urgent matter.

"You may want to consider to kiss me," Lou grinned, but from the corner of his eyes, he could see how Cane gave him a look. Even in his bad day, Cane was still hostile toward him when it came to Iris.

"Do you want me to kick you out?" Iris narrowed her eyes. She wondered how Lou didn’t change at all.

Lou raised both of his hands and then looked at Cane. "You need to remember this! I saved your ass!"

"What is it?" Iris didn’t want to let her hope soared, because she knew exactly what Lou was talking about and why he was beaming like this. "Lou, tell me."

"I know a way how to save your mate." Lou looked so proud of himself. He crossed his arms and looked very smug.

And for the first time after such a long time, Iris saw how gorgeous the merchant was.

"You are not kidding me, right?"

"You are going to skin me alive if I am joking with you about this matter, Iris." Lou was a jokester and sometime, he didn’t choose his word wisely, but he knew better not to make a joke about this.

Lou thought he would finally get a kiss or a hug, but Iris actually broke down, crying so hard, which made the merchant panic.

"Hey! Hey!" Lou immediately knelt down. "I expect a kiss, you know, not a cry. Well, a thank you will do too."

However, Cane stood up from his sitting position and approached his mate, he didn’t remember her, but he consoled her like he used to like usual, as if his body remembered it. Iris then hugged Cane so tightly, her whole body was trembling.

"Shouldn’t I be the one, who got a hug?" Lou frowned and then shrugged his shoulders. "Never mind."

In the end, Lou sat down on the floor, along with the couple, he crossed his legs and played with the hem of his red cloak, waiting until Cane managed to calm Iris down.

"Are you done crying? Can we talk?" Lou asked in bored tone. He had not yet even explained it to Iris when she broke down crying. "You need to hear my explanation first, this is not an easy task too."

Iris wiped her tears, she shook her head. "As long as there is a way, it can be done." Cane looked at her, concern in his expression. "I am fine, Cane. I am okay." Iris kissed the tip of his nose.

Lou clapped his hands to get their attention. "Okay, stop being lovey dovey, listen to me now."

The merchant had been looking for any clue, anything that could give him any lead to find out a way to help Cane, because it pained him to see how Iris looked so morose.

He felt like her soul would die first before her body.

"It’s a looooong, arduous journey that I have to go through! I have to fight monsters! Going through snowstorm..."

"Lou, this is summer..." Iris reminded him.

The merchant cleared his throat. "I meant... a great ordeal to get this piece of information."

Iris wanted him to talk straight to the point, because she really wanted to know what he had found out, but she endured it. At the very least, after all the trouble that Lou had gone through, she would let him had his time to shine and brag about it.

"It almost felt like I am looking for a needle in the ocean!"

An hour passed and Iris still had the patient to listen to him, but Cane had decided to take a nap, as he used Iris’s legs as a pillow and slept on the carpet. Listening to Lou gave the king a headache.

"... and finally, I found this man. He was from the not- so Holy Kingdom." Finally, Lou got to the main story. "He is very old, I though he is a relic." Lou looked very serious.

Iris didn’t know whether she wanted to laugh or cry. She was so done with this merchant, but she loved him as a friend nonetheless. He was so dear to them and Lou had been amazing throughout the years they spent together.

"I got information from him. He talked something about five swords and the power of the true Serafim. The hidden forest, where the swords were there." Lou frowned. "He talked in Andel language, I don’t understand some of the word he said."

"How could you say that he can help with Cane’s case?"

"Because he said something along the line of the missing memory, or mind...? The restoration of the power or something... anyway, it the same case like Cane. You should go and meet him yourself, you know about the Serafim power and the five swords better than me. I am sure you mentioned about the five swords long time ago."

"Let’s go." Iris didn’t want to waste her time. If there was a way, she wanted to figure it out immediately.

"Now?"

"Yes."

"Okay!" Lou immediately stood up. "It has been a long time, since we went onto a journey together!"

"But, help me to get Cane to the bed first," Iris said, caressing Cane’s head.

"What should I do?"

"Carry him to the bed."

"I am already too old!" Lou cried.
