The Aloof Lord's Mysterious Wife-Chapter 442: How Can a Virgin Get Someone Pregnant?
Chapter 442: How Can a Virgin Get Someone Pregnant?
"Who dares to insult the prince?" Qing Feng’s hand tightened around his sword, ready to rush out and deal with the audacious man, setting an example.
"Calm down," Ye Siheng said, his eyes cold and indifferent. "If you rush out to kill him just because he’s shouting publicly, others will think this prince is guilty and anxious."
Ye Siheng was too weary to address other matters, but he couldn’t allow misunderstandings about his reputation to spread. If A’Li heard such things, his days would become unbearable.
Ye Siheng stepped out, followed by two attendants.
At the entrance of the mansion stood a man of ordinary appearance, visibly agitated. He continued to shout, "Hypocritical scoundrel prince, pretending to be virtuous..."
Ye Siheng and his entourage arrived at the door.
Qing Feng shouted, "What are you all doing? This man is slandering and insulting the prince! Why haven’t you arrested him and shut him up? What will you do if the princess hears of this? How will the prince explain it?"
The guards looked troubled, and one pointed to the right.
The three turned to see another black carriage parked nearby.
On the right side of the street, another black wooden carriage had pulled to a stop, its curtain lifted. Nanli sat at the front, her expression full of curiosity, looking as if she was just missing a handful of sunflower seeds in her hand to complete the scene.
Ye Siheng’s eyes narrowed slightly, his breath momentarily catching in his throat.
Qingfeng, pale and trembling, stammered, "P-Princess?!"
By now, a sizable crowd had gathered, and many of them were officials and their families who lived nearby. The gossip spread quickly: it seemed that the Ninth Prince had been caught with another man’s bride--and what’s more, he had been caught red-handed by none other than the returning Ninth Princess!
A scene like this was rare indeed. To have the prince and princess standing there, one panicked, the other heartbroken--what drama!
Even though the wind was strong today, witnessing such a spectacle was worth risking a cold!
Nanli, sitting calmly in her carriage, broke the silence. "Sir, do you have any other lines?" she asked, reaching for the box of pastries on the small table beside her.
There were no sunflower seeds in the carriage, but Rainbow always made sure there was a box of pastries. Normally, Nanli didn’t eat them, but today seemed like the perfect occasion.
The man, hearing the crowd’s murmurs and realizing Nanli’s identity, grew even more furious when he saw her calmly munching on pastries. "Your husband defiled my bride, and you can still eat?!" frёeωebɳovel.com
Ye Siheng tried to explain, "A’Li, I..."
Nanli raised a hand, signaling him to wait. She turned to the man, "Sir, let me advise you: don’t be a pawn. My husband is innocent and hasn’t taken advantage of your wife. Seeing your distress, I choose not to hold it against you. Just leave now."
The man sneered, "You’re afraid of losing face, but I’m not! I’m from..."
His voice was abruptly cut off. Nanli had used a silence talisman to prevent him from speaking.
She said, "Are you sure you want to expose your name and family? With so many watching, it won’t just be you who is embarrassed but your entire family as well."
The man’s attempts to speak were futile, and he made muffled noises, begging Nanli to lift the silence talisman.
His new wife had been humiliated, and he could not bear to be embarrassed. He felt that Ye Siheng was the true villain.
Among the onlookers, an official’s family member shouted, "Princess, let him explain. This needs to be cleared up."
Although it seemed like a call for justice, it was clear that many were simply interested in the spectacle.
Nanli sighed, "If you’re determined to walk into hell, so be it." She flicked her fingers, removing the silence talisman.
The official’s family member pressed, "Young man, you’ve been talking for a while. Who is your wife?"
The crowd was eager to know who this woman was and whether she was exceptionally beautiful to catch the Ninth Prince’s eye.
"My name is Wang Dazhi. My new wife is the Fourth Miss of the General’s Mansion, County Princess Yu!" Wang Dazhi glared at Ye Siheng. "You’ve insulted my new wife and abandoned her. Now she’s pregnant, and you still refuse to take responsibility?!"
The revelation shocked everyone. County Princess Yu? Yu Chunhua?!
Had the Ninth Prince truly lost his senses? Or did he have a particular preference for married women?
Some recently married women, hearing this, couldn’t help but imagine the scandal.
Nanli was also taken aback and looked at Ye Siheng in surprise.
Ye Siheng, his eyes reddened with distress, said, "A’Li, I haven’t wronged you."
Nanli responded, "I know."
"No, you don’t!" Ye Siheng’s voice broke with frustration. "You’re only saying that to reassure me. I must torture him to clear my name!"
"There’s no need," Nanli said, waving her hand. "You haven’t lost your virginity, how could you make Yu Chunhua pregnant? From his demeanor, it’s clear he’s just a pawn used by others."
The crowd fell silent.
Though there had been rumors about the Ninth Prince and Princess not consummating their marriage, and despite the Ninth Prince’s previous anger and actions, no one had dared to comment further.
Was this something they were meant to overhear? The crowd pondered nervously. They hadn’t eavesdropped on purpose--surely the Ninth Prince wouldn’t hold them accountable, right? Moments ago, they had been eager to enjoy the drama, but now, they were beginning to think it might be best to leave. After all, their lives were more important than a good show.
However, Wang Dazhi, an outsider unfamiliar with the full extent of Nanli’s influence, merely scoffed. Though he had heard of her reputation, he clearly didn’t grasp how formidable she was.
With a cold snort, he said, "Ninth Princess, don’t be fooled by him! How could you tell whether a man is still... a virgin?"
Nanli finished her pastry and casually waved for Qingyang to bring over some tea. She smiled lightly. "I can’t speak for other Taoists, but I assure you, I can tell. In fact, Prince Wang, you and my husband are both still... untouched."
Wang Dazhi froze, his face a mixture of confusion and doubt.
"You... you didn’t just guess that by chance, did you?"
Before Nanli could respond, someone from the crowd protested indignantly: "The Ninth Princess has never been wrong!"
"That’s right! The Ninth Princess can even determine blood lineage, why wouldn’t she be able to tell if someone is still a virgin?"
Wang Dazhi’s confidence faltered further. In truth, the moment he had laid eyes on Ye Siheng and Nanli together, words like ’a match made in heaven’ and ’perfectly harmonious’ had sprung to mind.
Could such an outstanding man--who now looked almost on the verge of tears, desperately afraid his wife might misunderstand him--really have been involved with another’s bride?
Was there something Yu Chunhua was hiding?
At that moment, Qing Feng, who had been racking his brain, suddenly slapped his forehead. "Ah! I remember now! It wasn’t the real Ninth Prince who was involved with your bride--it was an impostor!"
