Ten Thousand Soul Banner: Deceased, do you have any unfulfilled wishes?-Chapter 4 - Ghost
Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Ghost
Jiang Wenxin saw the elevator doors close and hurriedly reached out to press the buttons for B1 and B2, but she stopped halfway.
Although she didn't personally know Shen Siyuan, she knew he was a Guanghui Animation staff member and that they often crossed paths within the company, so she wasn't worried about not being able to find him.
Right now, the most important thing was her daughter in her arms. At this moment, she had countless questions she wanted to ask the little one in her embrace.
"Dou Dou, you..."
Jiang Wenxin opened her mouth but didn't know what to ask.
After some thought, she gently asked, "Dou Dou, have you... been by Mommy's side all this time in the past two years?"
"Hehe~, and Daddy too." Dou Dou rubbed her eyes and said with a giggle.
But then she seemed a bit aggrieved and added, "But you couldn't hear me speak, nor could you see me."
"I'm sorry, Mommy is at fault."
Jiang Wenxin caressed her little face, filled with heartache.
Three-year-old Dou Dou wasn't very coherent when she spoke; her thoughts were a bit disjointed. But Jiang Wenxin was, after all, her mother. Though she hadn't seen her daughter in over two years, her love for and understanding of her daughter were etched deep into her bones.
So, with her gentle guidance, she quickly clarified the whole matter.
"I drank lots and lots of water, I really couldn't swallow anymore, my tummy was about to burst, and the seawater didn't taste good at all..."
Dou Dou patted her little belly, frowning slightly, as if she could still feel the pain from back then.
"Then all of a sudden, I wasn't bloated anymore, I felt light and weightless. I quickly swam up from the sea. Mommy, I'll tell you, I was so impressive then, whoosh whoosh whoosh... like a little sea turtle..."
Dou Dou waved her arms excitedly, her face alight with exhilaration. The reason she said she was like a little sea turtle was that her family had once kept one and later released it into the sea with her.
"When I reached the beach... there were so many police officers on the beach... but you couldn't see me. I also saw Mommy crying so sadly. I tried to comfort you, to kiss you, but you couldn't hear or see me. I was really heartbroken..."
Dou Dou had drowned. Bin Hai was a coastal city, so going to the beach in the summer was quite normal.
Dou Dou had gone to the beach to play with her grandparents when the accident happened, swept away by the waves.
Jiang Wenxin had been severely ill, and after recovering, she fell into deep self-blame.
Because she had always been the one looking after Dou Dou. That day, something came up, and since the grandparents also wanted to see their granddaughter, Jiang Wenxin decided to let Dou Dou stay with them for a day. Little did she know, that very day would bring the accident.
Her husband, worried that she would become depressed from staying at home too long, asked relatives to arrange the current relaxed job for her.
Indeed, after starting work, Jiang Wenxin gradually emerged from her grief.
"Mommy, I'm a good baby, oh. Every time I would either quietly follow behind you or wait for you at home by myself until you got off work..."
There was a hint of pride in Dou Dou's words but also a touch of grievance.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Wenxin's heart ached, and she hugged her tighter, then walked out of the elevator.
"Mommy knows, baby is the best..."
The basement on the negative third floor wasn't dim; it was well lit. But still, walking alone in this quiet space every day after work, Jiang Wenxin always felt a bit scared and would subconsciously hasten her step.
But today, she didn't feel the slightest fear; instead, she wished she could walk even slower, for even longer.
"Mommy~"
"What is it, baby?"
"Can you walk slower from now on, just like now?" Dou Dou swung her little hand as she spoke.
"Why? Mom doesn't usually walk quickly."
"No, actually very quickly, um..."
Dou Dou tilted her little head in thought, looking adorably cute to the extreme.
"There was one time I went shopping with Mom, but you walked too fast, and I lost you, but I'm very smart, I didn't run around, I stayed in the same place waiting for you, but... but..."
Dou Dou said, her words trailing off as her little mouth puckered, full of grievance.
"But I waited a very, very long time..." Dou Dou stretched out her tiny arms to show just how long.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Wenxin felt a pang of heartache—it appeared she had lost her again. Thankfully the little one was smart and stayed in the same place waiting for her.
But just thinking about leaving her there to wait all alone made her heart hurt as though it was being pricked with needles.
"There were uncles and aunties who said they could take me to find you, but Daddy said not to go with strangers, so I just waited there for you, but... but Mom, I've waited too long, I was really anxious, so Mom, don't walk too fast in the future, okay..."
Hearing this, Jiang Wenxin realized the problem in her words and couldn't help saying, "What uncles and aunties?"
"The ones who died just like them," Dou Dou said innocently.
So Dou Dou already knew that she too had died.
Jiang Wenxin was startled by the revelation. With this logic, aren't there a lot of ghosts in this world?
Could it be that after people die, they all wander around in this world? They shouldn't be going to Heaven, no, this is Daxia, they should be returning to the Underworld instead.
-----------------
Shen Siyuan witnessed an unbelievable scene.
Outside, there were ghosts everywhere—walking beneath streetlights, strolling on the roads, and loitering outside shops...
Humans did not avoid ghosts, and ghosts did not avoid humans, coexisting distinctly and without interference.
Shen Siyuan really wanted to bring out the Ten Thousand Soul Banner and capture all these wandering souls.
Unfortunately, the Ten Thousand Soul Banner was badly damaged and had lost most of its power, making it impossible to capture souls on such a large scale. Moreover, he wasn't a Demonic Cultivator, so he couldn't do such a conscienceless deed.
Besides, he had just stumbled upon this opportunity and didn't fully understand this world, so it was better to be cautious.
Shen Siyuan walked out of the building, went to the parking lot, and found his little electric scooter, but he observed these wandering souls all along the way.
This place was indeed strange, there was not a trace of Spiritual Energy, yet ghosts existed.
And these ghosts seemingly had no Order, but in fact, they followed their own set of behavioral codes.
Humans cannot see ghosts, and ghosts cannot affect humans, and they could even be harmed by the three fires of a human body.
Unless a person's fortune declines and the three fires are not prosperous, they could be easily entangled by a ghost. Although it would not cause any substantial harm, the person would experience bad luck and nothing would go their way.

The so-called three fires refer to the top gate fire and the Left and Right Shoulder Fire; the stronger the person, the more vibrant the three fires. Except for one's own family, ghosts would steer clear of them.
Thus, this allowed ghosts and humans to coexist distinctly, without interfering with each other.
In this regard, it was somewhat similar to the Great Wilderness, but the Great Wilderness had the Underworld, Hell, Netherworld, Jile, Divine Country, Heaven, True Void Home, etc., each with its own destination.
But the ghosts in this world seemed to have no destination, wandering everywhere as a result.
And because the energy of the world was murky, it also didn't give birth to any Fierce Ghosts or Evil Spirits. This inadvertently led the world to a balance where everything coexisted peacefully.
However, Shen Siyuan also noticed that some ghosts would dissipate into particles and vanish, yet he didn't feel any force guiding them; they just simply disappeared.
Watching the dead souls come and go on the streets, Shen Siyuan felt as if he was forgetting something.
