Ten Thousand Dragons Technique-Chapter 37: Enlightenment Cliff! The Place of Epiphany!
It actually requires points! Lin Xuan was surprised.
He knew that points were something you could only earn by completing tasks.
1,000 points for one hour! Lin Xuan noted this and asked again, "Senior, can one really achieve an epiphany in this place?"
The middle-aged man replied, "The Enlightenment Cliff can accelerate one’s comprehension, but whether you can achieve an epiphany is not guaranteed. It all depends on personal fortune."
"If you’re lucky, you just might."
Lin Xuan understood. Regardless, he had to visit this place. After all, the Extreme Dao Ten Thousand Dragons Diagram was too difficult to comprehend, and he desperately needed a chance for an epiphany.
「Task Hall」
When Lin Xuan arrived at the Task Hall, where missions were issued, he found it bustling with disciples.
The disciples of Heavenly Dao Academy were divided into six grades. Newcomers like Lin Xuan were considered first-grade disciples, while the rest were senior students, with the highest grade being the sixth. This meant each disciple could cultivate at the academy for six years before they were considered graduates.
Upon entering, Lin Xuan looked around and realized he didn’t recognize anyone; they must all be senior students. It seemed the other new disciples had not started taking on tasks yet.
Lin Xuan moved forward and carefully examined the available missions. They were divided into five levels, from one to five stars. The higher the level, the more points it awarded, but the difficulty also increased accordingly. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
He assessed his own strength and found that he could, at most, take on one-star tasks and some two-star tasks. One-star tasks were generally intended for Martial Artists below the Martial General Realm and were thus suitable for new disciples. Two-star tasks, however, required the strength of a Martial General.
Lin Xuan accepted a few one-star tasks and one two-star task, planning to get some practice in first. These tasks all involved killing Demon Beasts to obtain their Demon Cores. A first-level Demon Core could be exchanged for one point, while a second-level one was worth 100 points. The difference was indeed quite large.
After accepting the tasks, Lin Xuan also received a map of the nearby forest. It marked the usual haunts of Demon Beasts and various dangerous areas.
Lin Xuan left with the map. He planned to familiarize himself with the environment by hunting some first-level Demon Beasts for practice before moving on to second-level ones. First-level Demon Beasts were equivalent in strength to the Martial Artist Realm, while second-level ones were comparable to the Martial General Realm.
Soon, Lin Xuan left Heavenly Dao Academy and headed to the surrounding forest.
Near Heavenly Dao Academy lay a mountain range called the Ancient Heavenly Mountain Range. It was vast, spanning 800 miles from east to west and teeming with countless Demon Beasts and Spirit Medicines. It was said that deep within the Ancient Heavenly Mountain Range, there were even peerless Great Demons.
Lin Xuan’s destination was the Ancient Heavenly Mountain Range, although he had no intention of venturing into its depths. He would stick to the outer regions.
As Lin Xuan entered the vast forest, he found it was like an ocean, with no end in sight. The roars of various Demon Beasts rose and fell all around him. He consulted the map to orient himself before continuing forward. His targets for this trip were the Blue-Eyed Wolf and the Fire Cloud Fox, two common types of first-level Demon Beasts in the area.
After walking for about the time it takes an incense stick to burn, Lin Xuan saw a fiery red figure flash past ahead. It was a fox—a Fire Cloud Fox.
Elated, Lin Xuan’s figure flickered as he dashed forward. He was executing the Wandering Dragon Step, and his speed was immense. In just a few steps, he caught up to the creature.
Startled by the human’s incredible speed, the Fire Cloud Fox realized escape was impossible. It spun around and swiped its claws at Lin Xuan in a preemptive strike.
Lin Xuan sneered and unleashed the first strike of his Ninefold Swordsmanship.
With a sharp sound, the Fire Cloud Fox was cleaved in two. As its body fell to the ground, a fiery red, grape-sized bead emerged from within. This was the Fire Cloud Fox’s Demon Core.
With a flick of his hand, Lin Xuan collected the Demon Core. One point in hand.
He continued hunting. Within half an hour, he had killed two more Fire Cloud Foxes. This pace made Lin Xuan frown. This is too slow. He decided to move deeper into the forest.
Before long, he encountered a pack of wolves. Their eyes were a gem-like blue; they were the first-level Demon Beast, the Blue-Eyed Wolf. Upon seeing Lin Xuan, the pack of more than thirty Blue-Eyed Wolves roared furiously and charged.
Any other Ninth Grade Martial Artist would have been scared silly, but Lin Xuan was unfazed.
With a flicker of movement, he dashed into their midst. Using the Wandering Dragon Body Technique, his body moved like a true wandering dragon, weaving swiftly among the thirty Blue-Eyed Wolves. He effortlessly dodged all of their attacks while simultaneously wielding his longsword. He unleashed his Ninefold Swordsmanship, and with every strike, a Blue-Eyed Wolf fell.
After a dozen breaths, Lin Xuan stopped, surrounded by the bodies of the fallen wolves. Although the Blue-Eyed Wolves were formidable, they were only first-level Demon Beasts. Lin Xuan’s current strength was already at the Martial General level, enough to contend with second-level Demon Beasts, so dealing with them posed no problem.
Lin Xuan proceeded to collect the Demon Cores from the fallen wolves, soon gathering all thirty.
Continuing on, over the next half-day, he encountered two more packs of Blue-Eyed Wolves, totaling over a hundred strong. After killing them all, his total count of Demon Cores reached 131.
But Lin Xuan felt it still wasn’t enough. His goal was the Enlightenment Cliff, and he needed to collect at least 1,000 Demon Cores for it.
Lin Xuan took a break to prepare. He cleaned a Blue-Eyed Wolf carcass, roasted the meat, and began to eat. Once he had eaten his fill, Lin Xuan pressed on and killed another fifty Blue-Eyed Wolves.
While cleaning the battlefield, he heard the sounds of fighting and terrifying roars in the distance. The noise was so astonishing that it shook the surrounding forest violently, and even Lin Xuan’s blood churned in his veins.
He exclaimed in surprise, "This potent energy! It’s a second-level Demon Beast!"
Lin Xuan quickly collected the fifty Demon Cores before turning and rushing toward the commotion. He wanted to see what kind of second-level Demon Beast it was. If possible, he planned to kill it. After all, a single second-level Demon Beast Core was worth 100 points!
After passing through that section of the forest, Lin Xuan indeed found a second-level Demon Beast ahead. It was also a wolf, but not a Blue-Eyed Wolf—it was a Gale Wolf. The Gale Wolf’s body was three times larger than a Blue-Eyed Wolf’s. A cyan light flickered across its body, and its movements stirred up gusts of wind. Its speed was incredible, even faster than an ordinary Martial General.
To Lin Xuan’s surprise, however, there was another figure facing off against the Gale Wolf: a woman. What surprised him even more was that she was wearing the uniform of a Heavenly Dao Academy disciple. It seemed she was also a new student.
This is unbelievable. To think that another new disciple from Heavenly Dao Academy besides me would accept a task and even dare to take on a second-level Demon Beast. I wonder who this woman is?
