Chapter 46: Chapter 46 — The Third Tamed Heroine

When the plea finally ended, Freja was crying her eyes out, her entire body covered in bruises. She lay face-down, restrained beneath Seraphine.

Thomas was crouching with the system screen in front of him, positioned directly before Freja’s face. Seeing her cry, beg to be freed, and apologise made a knot tighten in his throat.

Evelyne simply watched the scene in silence from a short distance away. Just thinking about what he was doing made her uncomfortable.

Thomas signed the contract. Then, slowly and gently helping move her right arm, Freja cried out through tears:

"It hurts! Don’t move it! Please... don’t move it..." Her voice cracked.

"I’m sorry. I’m being as careful as I can."

He subtly took her index finger, which was covered in her own blood, and guided it until it touched his palm. Then he told her:

"Please swear loyalty to me, and swear that you will live for me and because of me."

After speaking the words the contract required, he added his own:

"I promise I’ll take care of you. I won’t do anything like this again. I just need your help, Freja, please. After this, I’ll help you recover."

"I don’t want to...", she replied between sobs. "Please... let me go..."

Thomas swallowed. Guilt was consuming him, but he didn’t want to ask for her to be hurt again.

’Compared to this method, using a sedative won’t make me feel nearly as guilty.’

Seeing that she still refused, he said:

"The longer you take to accept, the longer you’ll suffer. Just accept it and we’ll take you to the hospital immediately—you’ll stop suffering."

Seraphine shifted her body and tightened the hold restraining Freja. The pain in her shoulder made Freja scream even louder. Evelyne grew frustrated at the sight and, clicking her tongue, stormed away from the area in irritation. She couldn’t stand the idea of supporting him.

The screams echoed throughout the forest.

Then Seraphine eased the pressure, allowing Freja to relax and catch her breath. Thomas repeated:

"Please swear loyalty to me, and swear that you will live for me and because of me."

Freja fought not to give in, but no matter how much she thought about it, she couldn’t break free. Her body ached everywhere and whenever she tried to use her gift, they hurt her again.

Her tears grew heavier and she spoke in a broken voice:

"O-okay... okay, I swear... I swear... I swear, please... just stop..."

The blood contract was fulfilled.

Thomas’s hand glowed with an intense red light as it absorbed a small trace of Freja’s blood into it. No one else could see the contract sealing itself, and the digital screen of his system updated before his eyes.

’Perfect, it’s done...’, he thought with relief. ’By the way... what’s that "effect toward me activated"? It always shows up...’

He stood up and, as usual, imposed all the prohibitions he gave his domesticated heroines, making sure none of them could expose him. Once finished, he nodded toward Seraphine and said:

"Take her carefully, okay? She’s part of our team now. Message me when she’s being treated."

She nodded, and despite Freja’s pained complaints, Seraphine carried her in a princess carry and leapt between the trees until they disappeared into the forest.

Thomas let out a deep breath and instinctively looked at his hand.

Evelyne approached from behind him with her arms crossed. She waited a few seconds before finally speaking.

"What will happen to her?"

Thomas stayed silent for a moment before answering.

"I’ll take better care of her. That much is obvious." He turned around and began walking along the path.

Evelyne glanced at him silently, then looked back toward the road ahead of them—the long walk back to the city.

Evelyne walked beside him as the sound of crickets and insects filled the forest. Each step made the dirt and stones crunch beneath their feet.

"Will you do the same thing to Inori?"

Thomas stopped for a moment. The thought made him nervous. Then he continued walking, rubbing the back of his neck lightly as he said:

"I think... today was enough. I need to rethink my plan... I’ll take a few days to think things through calmly."

Evelyne looked at him from the corner of her eye in silence. Then she turned her gaze back to the path ahead, which would be a long walk back to the city.

◇◆◇

When he arrived at his apartment that night, after completing his main mission, he quietly closed the door. He didn’t want to alert anyone, but to his surprise, Iris was waiting for him.

"Brother!"

She ran straight into his arms. Thomas felt uncomfortable, but he suppressed the feeling and hugged her back before lifting her up.

"Hey... did you have a good day?"

"Yes! My teacher congratulated me for getting great results on my exam! And a friend gave me a bracelet. It’s pretty, right?", she asked, showing him her right wrist.

"It is. Very much so. Congratulations on being so smart." He pretended to be warm with her, because holding her only brought his guilt back. "I know you have an incredible future as a heroine, Iris. You’ll be amazing."

She laughed while excitedly continuing to tell him things. Thomas smiled falsely for her, playing his role as the older brother, but at some point his ears stopped listening and his attention drifted away. He just nodded automatically.

Freja’s screams echoed in his mind.

Her tear-streaked face.

Her begging for mercy.

Her groans as she was beaten, unable to defend herself.

All because of him.

He didn’t think about how he had almost been caught by the police, nor that he had been moments away from being separated from Iris forever.

He only thought about the guilt and remorse of torturing a heroine.

At one point, he imagined blood covering his hands while he held his younger sister.

His focus drifted away. Iris repeated his name, calling him, but he didn’t hear.

Until she grabbed his cheeks and shook him.

"Snap out of it!"

Thomas returned to the present and looked at her.

"Huh? O-oh, sorry. I’m tired, Iris. Sorry."

"Umm..."

He set Iris back on the ground and asked:

"By the way, where’s Angel?"

"Showering. She left dinner ready for you on the table."

Thomas looked toward the dining area. His meal was wrapped in plastic beside a note that read:

If it got cold, use the microwave. Take a shower, eat, and go to sleep. :)

"She thought you’d come back late", Iris commented, peeking over the edge of the table because of her height.

Thomas picked up the note and stared at it silently for a few seconds.

Then he whispered:

"I see..."

◇◆◇

While finishing dinner in his room, a message arrived on his phone. It was Seraphine.

"She’s resting now. She’ll spend the night here. All her injuries have already been healed, but she wanted to stay the night."

"Thanks for the help, Seraphine..."

"It’s not like I can refuse you, right? But it’s fine. Anyway, I’ll share Freja’s contact with you. I’m heading back home."

"Alright, thanks again. I’ll send everyone a message in a moment."

"Okii<3."

Thomas frowned slightly.

’That’s strange... she’s the only one who hasn’t questioned anything I did, and the idea doesn’t seem to bother her. I’m curious, but asking her feels scary. Maybe it’d be reckless.’

When he stood up to take the plate away, he left his room and ran into Angel. She was drying her still-damp white hair. She wore a sleeveless white blouse and short shorts.

"Did you enjoy your dinner?", she asked.

"Yes... thanks, I guess."

"It’s the least I can do for you. Are you ready to go out tomorrow?"

"To the Abyss, right? Yes, I am."

"Good. Then sleep well." She started walking past him. "Tomorrow you’ll live quite the adventure."

"By the way...", Thomas interrupted while Angel looked at him. "Do you think I could bring a friend with me? I’d like to spend the day with her too."

Angel looked at him skeptically and reproached him in a low voice:

"You want to spend the day with someone else on the day you were supposed to dedicate to me? They’ll steal the attention you should be giving me. So no, you can’t." She turned around and kept walking.

Thomas smiled awkwardly at the rejection.

Then Angel stopped and looked at him from the side.

"Wait, that friend of yours... is she something more? A girlfriend? A romantic interest? Someone you’re almost with?"

"Well...", he muttered, rubbing his neck. "You could say something like that..."

"Then yes, bring her."

"Huh?", he murmured.

Angel entered Iris’s room—the place where she had been sleeping—and closed the door behind her.

Thomas cleared his throat in confusion. Then he took out his phone and texted Ashley:

"From one to ten, how busy are you tomorrow?"

While he went to the kitchen and washed the dishes, three minutes passed before Ashley replied:

"A ten, but it depends. Are you going to invite me to something?"

"Yes. I have a trip outside Ark to the Abyss. Want to come?"

"Yes. I’ll cancel all my plans. What time should I go to your house?"

’Wow... she didn’t even hesitate.’

"We’re leaving at 10."

"I’ll see you at 10, handsome 😘❤️"

Thomas smiled. It was true that many emotions stirred within him when he spoke with Ashley, but without a doubt she gave him affection without hesitation.

Then one last message arrived:

"And go to sleep already."

"No woman gives me orders."

"I’m your goddess, to begin with, so you obey me."

"Ha! Ridiculous."

"Tomorrow you’re going to answer why you were with women today. I haven’t forgotten."

"Jealous?"

"You wish someone like me would be jealous over you. I’m just curious. Anyway, I’m going to sleep, I’m tired. Rest well."

Thomas said goodbye as well and returned to his room.

He wanted to rest, but he needed to leave everything prepared. He created a group and selected four contacts: Selene, Seraphine, Evelyne, and Freja.

Once inside, Thomas wrote:

"Tomorrow I’ll need you to go to the usual place. We’re heading somewhere."

"Didn’t you say you wanted to take a few days before going after another woman?", Evelyne reproached.

"It’s not for that...", Thomas replied.

"I’ll be there. Good night", wrote Seraphine.

"What time?", Selene asked.

"At 8."

"You’re making me lose money!", Selene complained.

"It’s only for tomorrow. After that, I promise I’ll give you time off."

"Alright, and where are we going?", Evelyne asked.

"If I tell you now, you’ll ask a lot of questions and it’s already late. Just show up."

"I’m asking because I need to dress appropriately, idiot. I’M NOT GOING IN HEELS IF WE’RE GOING TO FIGHT SOMEONE OR IN BOOTS IF WE’RE GOING OUT TO EAT!"

"We’re taking a long trip outside Ark. We’re going to the Abyss."

"Then I’ll wear boots. That saves me from asking questions."

"Why do you want to take me...? I’m not a fighter...", Selene wrote.

"Your fortune gift is incredibly useful, don’t underestimate it. Besides, have you ever thought you could see the Abyss with your own eyes? Don’t you want to see it? Of course, this time without being on the verge of death."

"Umm... okay."

Thomas selected the last message and checked who had read it.

Freja was among them.

She didn’t write anything.

So he locked his phone and lay down, thinking:

’I guess she won’t go. It doesn’t matter, I won’t force her for now. I feel really bad, so I’ll let her be free for a few days. I suppose only the three of them will come.’
