Taming His Demon Lover-Chapter 25: Their first kiss
He quit struggling.
In fact, Robin tipped on his toes to put his arms around Andras’ neck and met his lips halfway.
The look on his face made Andras think that somewhere Robin’s father and his companion angels must be smiling, for Robin’s face was filled with such indescribable joy.
Was he truly that happy to tie the knot with him, then?
If Robin was, then Andras was pleased.
Robin felt the warmth of his mouth as it lingered on top of his own for the briefest of seconds.
Then Andras finally lifted his head and told his men they could go ahead and start enjoying the wedding feast.
He received loud hollering and cheers as the sailors offered their congratulations to the married couple.
The vicar led them to a table to sign their marriage certificate with a feather quill and black ink.
When they were done Robin clutched his copy of the marriage certificate in his hand, it gave him an unreal feeling as if he was dreaming.
Andras definitely was experienced at kissing.
Their first kiss was intoxicating enough for him to crave another, and since Andras was still holding on to him.
He thought that maybe, just maybe there was hope for them to make the marriage work for them after the year was up.
Robin was mistaken, as usual.
Andras gave Robin his full attention because he had another agenda on his mind.
"Now our life is going to run smoothly over the course of the year. Isn’t that the truth, Robin?"
Though he wasn’t at all certain what Andras was asking of him, reluctantly he agreed just to make him happy.
"Yes, you’re right. I’ll be good to you, Andras."
Andras raised an eyebrow in mock disbelief, but Robin wasn’t offended by his attitude.
Robin felt sure that given time perhaps he could make Andras realize how fortunate he was to have married him.
Raising an eyebrow Andras asked, "You aren’t going to cause me anymore trouble, right husband?"
"No more trouble," Robin promised. "Will you try to be a good husband?"
Andras candidly gave a shrug as an answer.
Robin decided he would interpret that action in a positive light.
Just then Robin’s stomach growled.
"You must be starving since you didn’t eat breakfast."
"Malachi offered my food earlier but I could only manage to snack on some nuts and dried fruits."
"Well let’s go and get something to eat together then."
Only when they started moving to get off the podium did Andras finally loosen his grip from around Robin’s waist.
Robin turned to invite the vicar to join them at their table but the vicar declined.
He couldn’t stay for refreshments and had to take a plate to go.
As he had a christening to attend the next morning in the capital that was a long distance away from this quaint seaside port.
The vicar wasn’t the only one leaving, he was joined by a group of little boys.
As young as seven and eight years old had been hired to help remove the algae, barnacles and tubeworms that clung to the side of the ship.
Also, the extra hands that had been hired to clean the ship and get it ready for the wedding were also departing.
Thanking the vicar profusely Robin tried to shake off the feeling that he was being abandoned once again.
Robin waved the vicar off while he watched the god fearing man disembark from the ship.
The whole time Andras willingly stayed by Robin’s side without a word.
Andras nudged Robin indicating it was time for them to head to the dining area.
Robin was still not used to how the ship moved with the ebb and flow of the water and struggled to find his sea legs.
To keep Robin sturdy, Andras took a hold of his hand, he gently tugged on Robin’s hand so he turned to follow him obediently.
It was no surprise that Andras’ men had not waited for them and had already started eating and drinking.
So much for proper etiquette, thought Robin, this was how it was going to be with sailors at sea, so he told himself to get used to it.
Andras’ inner circle had the best table to themselves and at least they had the decency to reserve the seats for the newlyweds.
The moment they were seated servants brought over even more platters of food.
It was a cause to celebrate and catch up on various topics, talking and laughter rang out while the crew enjoyed their food.
By time Robin got served the food was already too cold and unfortunately for him Malachi was sitting on the opposite side and engrossed in a deep conversation with two other men.
Oceanus sat on the right and mostly occupied Andras’ attention with talks of war amongst the warring merfolk clans.
Unable to participate in the conversation and disinterested in the cold food after a few mouthfuls Robin started to feel sleepy again.
His husband hadn’t even bothered to introduce him to the men at the main table and Robin tried not to dwell on how miserable that made him feel.
Every time he tried to talk to one of the men on his left, they only exchanged a few words and then the conversation went dead which frustrated Robin.
He had nothing in common with any of Andras’ inner circle and he immediately felt like an outsider.
Like a penniless window shopper staring at goods in the bakery he couldn’t eat.
So Robin turned his attention back to the dismal meal.
There were so many things he never ate while living with the James family.
Robin mostly ate stale bread and drank water and naturally shied away from the rich food in front of him.
At this wedding feast he was also being offered brandy, white and red wines, red rum and white vodka.
He longed to join in the jesting, so he sipped the alcoholic beverages while he listened to the men’s camaraderie and watched them joke around.
Robin started to feel jealous of their friendship which could only stem from a bond of knowing each other for more than a few years.
Not used to it, he allowed the meat trays stacked to the brim with whole pigeons, mountains of fish and leftover grouper and mutton stew dishes to pass him.
The one thing that did not pass him was the tray of sweets, he helped himself to sweet tarts, cake and muffins.
Then out of nowhere Oceanus broke the ice, "I noticed how much you like the sweets. There is one last slice of raisin bread, would you like it?"
Robin was taken aback when all eyes at the table swung in his direction.
Suddenly Robin had an audience intensely watching his every move.
