Talentless Extra Of The Legendary Hero Academy-Chapter 118: Dolor
Chapter 118: Dolor
"Interesting," Shadow Lord said. "You know of this?"
He gestured at the image on the stone behind him, but Severin didn’t look at it. His expression was a little stiff, and he forced himself to relax.
Until he knew what was going on with his own body, he wasn’t going to rush at anything. He shrugged and bowed slightly. "Shadow Lord."
The Shadow Lord smiled. His teeth were the color of rust, and they were sharpened. "You are brave to come here yourself and very stupid. You will become my food."
The thing about those who are strong is that they don’t need to dance around words. Unlike people who are equal or close to it, only they could weave words together and then try to get an advantage with schemes.
But what did the strong need such things for?
Severin stared at the Shadow Lord, a confused expression on his face. "Why? I am just newly arrived here. Why would you want to eat me?"
It was a genuine question that Severin needed an answer to. What exactly did the Shadow Lord want, and why? From his point of view, there were little reasons and limited motivation for him.
Shadow shrugged, and then he snapped his fingers. The floor boiled with darkness, and tentacles rose from the ground, lifting a shadow up.
Severin sucked in a sharp breath. "What is my shadow doing here?"
Now Severin was on alert. Things weren’t as easy as they seemed. If his shadow was with the Shadow Lord since he arrived, then there were things at play that he didn’t know or understand.
It made him twitch inside. There was nothing he hated more than being in a game where he had no idea who he was playing with or the rules.
The Shadow Lord held almost all the cards.
"What is your shadow doing here? Well, by all means, ask it yourself!"
The shadow looked at Severin curiously. They had the same features, but one was a shadow, and the other, flesh and blood. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
Severin stared at his shadow with furrowed brows. "Tell me, what is it that you know, and why did you get away from me?"
It felt strange, speaking with one’s shadow.
The shadow had his voice. "Head Librarian Teresa."
Severin stiffened. "Eh?"
Of all the things that he was expecting, that wasn’t part of it at all!
"Head Librarian Teresa was the one that gave me consciousness and assigned me with a mission. I am to take the seed of despair to the Shadow Lord.
"Initially, it wasn’t supposed to be complicated. I was to just lead you here by manipulating and influencing your behavior through the shadow.
"But then we were stopped on the way. Something happened in the space between worlds. You saw the beast, right? It could detect the seed, so I hid it in your body so that we could travel safely.
"But when we arrived here, the Shadow Lord detected me somehow and ripped me free," Severin’s shadow concluded.
Severin thought he was in control of things, but even he had been used for transportation. Never in his life would he have expected his own shadow to betray him and work against him.
But that wasn’t the only thing that made Severin’s heart skip a beat. It was what the shadow said. A seed was buried in him. His hand went to his chest, but since he didn’t feel anything then, he obviously did not feel anything now.
"Head Librarian Teresa. So, she’s working for who again?" Severin asked, his voice controlled. He was already this far; he should use the opportunity to learn all that he could.
His shadow stared at him shamelessly. It didn’t have any emotions on its face as it shrugged. "I don’t know. I was only awakened and then sent here. My objectives are to come here, to the Shadow Lord."
Severin frowned as he stared at his shadow. "Is this how I sound when I want to be stubborn?"
The Shadow Lord spoke next, his voice tinged with pride. "Years. For years, I waited and plotted. Just for this, and now you’re all here. All my food and power. But that’s not all. I will wear the body of that thing and then complete my powers."
Severin raised his brows. He understood the Shadow Lord. One of the problems of plotters and schemers was that they don’t feel people’s appreciation. Most times, they pull strings in the shadows, but no one can know what they did.
Severin smiled. "Tell me your story, Shadow Lord."
Severin then sat down as if he was at the theater, about to enjoy a show, as if he was scrolling through the internet and came across lore about a particular story that was interesting.
And of course, the Shadow Lord accepted. Why wouldn’t he? He’d been planning for years, and now it was all coming together. "It all started with the Heroes. They killed two generals of the Aberrant Singularity.
"But did they really? Only one of them was killed to finality. The other was just too simply wounded. That one is called Dolor, the Shade of Pain!"
"He was dragged here into the old research facility, and then he was bound to the large formation to drain his powers into the system spell that locked the world away."
Severin’s eyes narrowed. "What happened to it? Its powers can’t be enough to power the system."
"You are right. He wasn’t alone, though. Different gods that were against Earth were cast down by the gods of the Divine Continent. They were all bound together. Besides, here is only a corner of the spell of the system. There are others scattered around the world."
Severin sucked in a sharp breath.
"But Dolor is far more powerful than they expected. He has a unique power of Pain. The more pain he saw and felt, the more powerful he would become. So they separated that power from him. The seed of Despair is like a Stigma that was taken out, ripped free of Dolor!"
