Talentless Extra Of The Legendary Hero Academy-Chapter 103: Head Librarian Teresa
Chapter 103: Head Librarian Teresa
Severin stared at the door of the Head Librarian, and the guy opened the door. "Come right here. She’s waiting for you."
He pushed open the door, and they entered. It was as if they’d stepped into another section of the library. Books were arranged on shelves of stone set into the wall.
"This is her room," the librarian said.
Her room? This big, with this many books? Severin didn’t say anything as he followed him deeper into the room until they reached the middle, where a small stone table and chairs stood.
A rocking chair sat at the head, swaying gently, and a woman sat in it, her body wrapped in warm yellow clothes and her face covered by the book she was reading.
Severin studied her. Judging by the hand holding the book, she wasn’t that young.
"He’s here, Head Librarian Teresa."
She put the book down on the table and used a small black stone to bookmark it. "Thank you. You can go now."
Her voice was old and soft, with a slight rasp.
The librarian bowed and left the room.
Severin studied her. She was far older than he expected. Her face was filled with deep lines, but her eyes were sharp. He bowed. "Good day, Head Librarian Teresa."
She smiled and gestured to the table. "Good day to you, Severin Reignhart. You are much younger than expected for a founder."
Severin nodded but didn’t say anything.
"You want information about Sector Delta, and I have it. I’ve been inside there before and came out of the place."
Severin sat up. "What do you want in return?"
She went straight to the point. Her hands went below the table where he couldn’t see. "I have the power to preserve things, but some of the books are too old and resist Etherion. I need something else to hold them together. Do you know what this is?"
She lifted a book and showed him the cover. The cover was blue, made from some kind of material that he didn’t know, but it was sleek and smooth.
He shook his head.
She nodded, as if it was expected, before she bent again to lift a slab of wood. "And this?"
Severin frowned. He knew what she was holding. "That is from the tree monsters."
"Good. They’re such quality materials and can hold Etherion well. They’re already good at preserving, more so when I use my powers on them. But they’re very rare monsters. You have them in your land. Give some to me."
Severin nodded slowly. What she wanted was a dead tree monster, but for that to happen, dark cloaks had to wake them. But there was a reason why Severin didn’t just order the trees cut down, since there were no dark cloaks to wake them.
He still had a trick to play.
There was something else that could wake them: the brain from the boss dark cloaks.
Severin agreed immediately. "I agree. I will give them to you."
There was no need to negotiate. What Severin wanted from her was much greater than what he could provide.
Head Librarian Teresa smiled. "Then it’s all settled. What do you want to know?"
Severin thought about it. He had a lot of questions swimming around in his head, but he straightened them out. "Why can’t the people in Sector Delta leave once they’ve stayed a certain time?"
"Because of the corruption."
"Corruption?"
"Yes. Think of the whole of Sector Delta as a giant prison. Everything inside is corrupt, and once you enter, the corruption starts to spread into you as well until you are fully corrupted. The portals, the doors, won’t allow you back after that."
Severin wasn’t expecting something like that. "So, the Academy didn’t want the corruption inside to come out."
"Pretty much. There’s a certain amount they allow back, but a fully corrupt? Hell no. The doors won’t even open."
Severin took a deep breath as more questions popped into his head. At least one of the most important had been answered, and now he knew the reason why those who go just don’t return. It was him against time.
"But what’s stopping me from leaving hours after I’ve entered?"
"Because there are two doors. One allows you to only enter, and the other only allows you to come out. And, as you can guess, they’re far apart from each other. If you were to go from the door you went in and headed directly to the other door to go out without any obstruction or distraction, then you’ll spend up to two weeks."
Severin’s eyes widened. "That’s..."
"Yes. It’s crazy. It’s like it was made just to keep those down there trapped."
"Then, what about the corruption? How long until the door won’t allow me to go?"
Head Librarian Teresa frowned. "Honestly? Nobody knows. But what I do know is that time works differently there and here and also differently for each person. But once this mark reaches your heart, then you are staying."
She pulled back her clothing to reveal her arm, where a black line coiled around it.
Severin couldn’t believe he was getting this much information. It made him happy because he wouldn’t be going in totally blind. "And is it truly dangerous?"
A faraway look appeared in her eyes. "It is the most dangerous place I’ve ever stepped into. Almost everything in there wants to kill you, and the others want to eat you."
Just what the hell?
"What exactly is Sector Delta?"
"It was an underground research facility."
"By the Academy?"
"No. It was by the Empire and one of the churches in the Divine Continent."
Severin’s eyes widened. "Then, it involves a god?"
She smiled. "Or a God."
Severin shuddered. A God that could spread corruption? Was that what they tried to keep locked down under there?
She shrugged. "Or multiple Gods and gods."
"Ah, fuck."
Severin felt a flash of anger at Darius Faulkner then. Just what did he do to the one-eyed bastard to deserve this? "My power isn’t strong enough for a place like that!"
He took a deep breath. "What’s my advantage in there?"
