Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Here We Go Again

Leon walked along the river for ten minutes, deliberating over how to build his nest. Should it be as casual as the birds that use twigs and leaves to make a nest?

Leon glanced at his claws; aren't these claws meant for digging?

After deciding to dig a hole for his nest, the next step was to choose the location... Since there would be no source of food without a river, it had to be near one.

Leon swung his tail back and forth, looking around, recalling the results of his explorations in this period, and remembered a place where the terrain was higher than the river and, importantly, the ground there was made of mud rather than hard sand and gravel—absolutely a great spot for digging a nest.

No sooner said than done, the flightless Leon spent nearly half an hour finding the perfect nesting spot. After a quick survey, he drew a blueprint on the mud with his claws, then got to work.

With his bottom in the air, Leon buried his head in digging, using his claws for the task.

His claws were sharp, and his strength was considerable, so the digging speed...still couldn't be compared to an excavator.

He thought that since he was growing quickly, he should dig a large hole to consider the future; but then he figured the mud hole could be expanded anytime, so he settled on digging a hole just big enough for him to pass through.

For an ordinary person, even with tools, digging isn't easy, but for a dragon, it's a piece of cake. Leon spent only half a day digging out a tunnel, then at the end of the tunnel, he expanded a space large enough for him to turn around and move freely.

Leon did harbor some ambitions; after all, this was his living place. In his plan, the nest had to have several exits, preferably even a concealed underwater exit. Although it was Mother Dragon's territory and living here posed no real danger... who could resist such a handsome nest?

Leon wanted to complete his plan in one go, but his hunger disagreed, leaving him no choice but to crawl out of the burrow in search of food.

The baby dragon skillfully leapt into the river, targeted a big fish, and swatted fiercely with his tail. Sadly, it was not night-time, and the active big fish moved faster than him, resulting in a miss.

Having just dug out a nest and in high spirits, the baby dragon finally calmed down, approached the big fish carefully and discreetly launched his attack, or he would lie at the bottom of the water and open his big mouth to use a piece of snail meat to "fish."

About half an hour later, the well-fed baby dragon climbed ashore, eager to return to his nest and admire the fruits of his labor.

As expected, the space was still too small; it needed to be expanded, which meant a lot more work.

Then there was the floor; is it better to compact the mud? Or just lay down some stones, especially when there were plenty of river pebbles outside, inexhaustible in supply.

Now, he could find some branches and leaves to make a "bed," but was there really a need?

Leon was lost in thought, overwhelmed by countless ideas, but before he could act on any of them, sleepiness overtook him. Sleep, when tired just sleep, he curled up in a spot at random.

Right there, just as he closed his eyes, that familiar ding-dong sound echoed again.

Again!?

All this time, he'd been trying to find a way to exploit the Golden Finger, but to no avail. He had given up and almost forgotten about his Golden Finger until it made an appearance today. Was this the light at the end of the tunnel?

Anyway, the black progress sheet appeared first, and then—

"Warm Home—Having one's own nest."

"Common Reward: Master Innate Weapon."

The bright red jumped out again.

"Error!"

"Error!"

"Error!"

"Not a match!"

"Retrieving anew!"

"Retrieval in progress... Match successful."

The same plot, the striking red returns to normal here.

"A warm home—owning a nest of one's own."

"Ordinary Reward: Sword Control Technique."

Sword Control Technique?

Leon jolted awake and the heavy drowsiness vanished in an instant.

Leon climbed out of the nest, planning to try out the newly learned Sword Control Technique, and realized something significant—undoubtedly, the Sword Control Technique required a sword, but he did not have one to hand.

Hmm, he remembered that river outside contained all sorts of miscellaneous things; he had once found a set of rusted armor at the riverbed. Since there could be rusted armor, there might as well be a sword.

Leon, full of excitement, left the nest and decisively plunged into the river, gliding along the bottom toward the front while looking around, occasionally surfacing to catch his breath.

...

...

Leon searched hard for a sword in the river, any sword would do, while at the same time, at the cliffside Dragon Nest, the Mother Dragon had just finished surveying her territory and returned.

Now, on the broken floor tiles of the temple that served as the Dragon Nest, a baby dragon was focusing on sharpening its Innate Weapon. This baby dragon had elegant lines that Leon lacked and a much finer nose—it was bound to be a little female dragon. Hearing heavy footsteps, she immediately turned her head and noticed the Mother Dragon returning to the nest.

"Mother, you're back," the baby dragon uttered in a sharp voice.

"Hm," the Mother Dragon grunted indifferently, walked over to a gray-white pillar, and lay down, the ferocious head then thudding to the ground with two puffs of smoke billowing from her nostrils.

The baby dragon didn't mind the Mother Dragon's curt response and continued busily honing her Innate Weapon—running and chasing. With no siblings around, she treated the air as her opponent, her enemy, biting and clawing at it before leaping into the air and then diving down towards the ground, venting her unreleased energy.

The charging baby dragon bumped into the Mother Dragon who was closing her eyes, ready to sleep, not only startling her but also climbing onto the Mother Dragon's body.

As long as her treasure wasn't disturbed, the Mother Dragon could tolerate the little female dragon's mischief. Still, it was slightly irritating—especially since the little one had climbed onto her neck. She said, "Salovis, I don't know when you'll learn to be as sensible as your brother, venturing out of the nest to fend for yourself, without needing parental care."

"Brother?" Salovis mumbled, her eyes widening, "My brother?"

"That, that..." The baby dragon tapped her large head, "My brother who jumped off the cliff, is he still alive?"

"Of course," the Mother Dragon replied.

The baby dragon could live outside without risk to its life, so the Mother Dragon couldn't be bothered to fetch him back—less trouble was preferable to more.

"Where is he now?" The baby dragon, much more excited than her mother, asked.

The Mother Dragon shared what she had seen—her eldest son survived by fishing every day, and today, for some reason, had suddenly thought of digging holes while cautioning her daughter to be obedient, otherwise, she would drive her out to fend for herself along with her brother.

"I'm going to find him," the baby dragon screeched, flapping her wings.

Of course, it wasn't brotherly affection driving her, but a desire to show off to her brother, busy with fishing and digging, to strut in front of him arrogantly. She heard her brother still couldn't fly till this day—a freak indeed, which made her even more excited.
