The aura surrounding a knight, he realised, was fundamentally distinct from the arcane energy wielded by wizards. Where arcane energy depended heavily on an innate, almost fated talent—born from the mystical fabric of the world—knightly aura was a discipline of the mind, forged and refined through sheer willpower, focus, and rigorous training.

A theory among the learnt wizards held that arcane energy was a gift, bound to the ancient forces of the cosmos, gifted to a select few. Wizards could harness this energy only if they possessed a natural affinity for it, as it thrived on a resonance with one's soul—a bond that could be nurtured but not created from nothing.

Aura, on the other hand, was thought to be a reflection of the individual's spirit and could be cultivated by anyone willing to train their mind to the utmost.

In essence, it was said that while arcane energy shaped itself around a wizard's gift, aura was shaped by the knight's will, an extension of their resolve that grew sharper and more powerful with every test of strength and focus.

At that time, when he met the Blade Sovereign, Jaegar couldn't truly grasp the sovereign's level of mastery, nor could he define the nature of the aura that surrounded him—it was overwhelmingly intense, almost blinding.

Though Jaegar struggled to discern the purity or depth of the Blade Sovereign's aura, witnessing Arnal's aura led him to a powerful conclusion: aura held as much force and potential as arcane energy.

They were equal powers in their own right—not a measure more, nor less—each formidable and distinct, one shaped by raw will, the other by inherited mystical talent.

"Thank you, Mr. Bordaulf," she replied, feeling a bit uncomfortable with the sudden attention. Jaegar watched the interaction with a slight frown.

Jaegar could sense the aura of arrogance that seemed to radiate from him. He was dressed fashionably, suited for the occasion.

Jjaegar could sense a quiet intensity in his gaze, the kind that suggested he was not one to be underestimated. Arnal then said to Jaegar, "Jaegar, is it ? I've heard a lot about you."

Jaegar nodded, keeping his expression neutral. "Likewise, Mr. Bordaulf," he replied coolly, already wary of the man's intentions. He ignored his manners of speaking.

Arnal's lips twisted into a faint smirk as he spoke. "I hadn't expected to see you here tonight." His tone was polite yet holding a note of indifference.

Jaegar inclined his head in response, a polite smile on his lips. "Yeah, now I am starting to regret why I came."

Arnal's smirk deepened a flicker of amusement in his eyes. "Regret, huh? Careful with that. Regret has a way of sticking around longer than you plan to."

Jaegar scoffed, crossing his arms as he leaned back slightly. "I think I'll manage. Regret's nothing new."

Arnal raised an eyebrow, his gaze sharp. "True enough. You always did have a habit of running headfirst into things you'd rather forget."

Jaegar's jaw tightened, but he kept his voice steady. "Funny, coming from a man who hides behind his charm as often as his blade."

A brief silence settled, thick with unspoken challenges. Then Arnal chuckled, low and edged. "Careful, Jaegar. You're not as untouchable as you think."

Before Jaegar could respond, another figure entered the fray—a man in his late twenties, dressed with an elegance that rivalled even the most refined nobles in the room. His long, chestnut hair flowed like silk, and he carried himself with a grace that suggested both poise and authority. His voice, melodious yet resonant, cut through the charged atmosphere like a balm.

"Gentlemen, I think it's best we defuse this before it escalates," the newcomer interjected smoothly, his keen eyes flickering between Jaegar and Arnal. "We wouldn't want to ruin such a splendid soirée, would we?"

Jaegar blinked, momentarily caught off guard. The man's commanding presence held an undeniable air of authority. "And you are?" he enquired, curiosity piqued.

"Danyael," the man replied, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Emperor's bastard son, if you need clarification. Though I prefer to think of myself as a friend to the crown rather than just a title." His casual demeanour suggested familiarity with the court, a confidence that hinted at his rising status.

Veronica stepped forward, her expression a mix of relief and appreciation. "Thank you, your highness. I was beginning to worry it would turn into something more than mere words."

Danyael nodded, glancing at Arnal with a knowing smile. "Well, we can't have that now, can we? Not when the night holds so much promise."

His gaze shifted back to Jaegar, assessing him with interest. "You're Jaegar, yes?"

"Yes."

Jaegar frowned, staring at the newcomer. This was the reason he hated such gatherings. He would have met such mudheads and arrogant young masters, he thought as such.

Arnal cleared his throat and apologised to Veronica, "I apologise for showing my rather uncouth behaviour, Lady Veronica. It won't happen again."

Veronica waved her hands, telling him, "No need to apologise, Mr. Bordaulf."

Danyael then said, looking at Arnal, "Careful, Arnal," he warned, his voice low. "Not every guest tonight needs to be a target of your wit."

Arnal gave a dismissive shrug, though his eyes never left Jaegar. "Of course, brother. But our prince here has always enjoyed a good conversation."

Jaegar kept his expression neutral, though he wanted to punch this obnoxious brat in front of him. He didn't understand why he was showing rudeness towards him. It was their first time meeting, but he felt like Arnal seemed to hate him.

Not only him, but there were a lot of glaring men in the hall, directly or indirectly showing their dislike for Jaegar.

Right then, a hall suddenly fell into silence. Danyael said, "Here comes the woman of the hour."

Jaegar turned to the entrance.

A procession of Chryso Knights, clad in polished golden armour, filed in with synchronised steps, their weapons gleaming as they escorted two figures into the hall.

The Empress walked regally beside a young woman whose beauty was striking. The young woman had an ethereal air, her features delicate but defined, with a presence that commanded attention even without effort. Her long, dark hair flowed gracefully over her shoulders, contrasting with her pale, flawless skin. Her dress, a deep shade of sapphire, shimmered as she moved, accentuating her slender figure.
