Synthetic Wizard-Chapter 168 - 123: Eternal Life Association (3)
Seven spell missiles whistled as they hit the gray-robed man, but his body suddenly exploded with a bang, turning into countless insects that scattered and flew outside the courtyard, leaving behind a chilling message.
"You’ll regret it!"
Sunan was slightly taken aback; he didn’t expect the gray-robed man’s words to be so arrogant, yet his escape was so quick and decisive.
What a contradiction in his actions and words!
Once Sunan confirmed the gray-robed man had truly left, he shook his head and turned his gaze towards the Starfire Sect followers.
As the gray-robed man departed, the insects flew away as well, leaving the Starfire Sect members paralyzed on the ground, gasping for breath, and looking fearfully at Sunan.
One menace had left, but another stood before them.
Sunan looked at the elder who first recognized him earlier and asked, "Who was that man just now?"
"I-I’m not really clear," the elder responded fearfully. "That man infiltrated the church headquarters once before but was repelled by Ovijou, the high priest."
Upon mentioning Ovijou, the elder’s gaze toward the person before him grew even more apprehensive.
After all, Ovijou the high priest was said to have died at the hands of this very individual.
Sunan realized then that the gray-robed man knew he couldn’t defeat him, hence he left without any delay.
Was he planning to gather reinforcements?
However, being able to retreat unscathed from Ovijou, the gray-robed man was at least quite capable among Level 3 Wizard Apprentices.
It seemed that the Eternal Life Association was not some second-rate faction, and Sunan would have to ask others at the next gathering.
"Where are the Divine Remains?" Sunan asked again.
"I don’t know about any Divine Remains," the elder looked puzzled.
Sunan frowned and cast a Charm Humans spell, asking again, but still got the same answer.
The others were also equally unaware.
After thinking for a moment, Sunan asked, "What about your pope?"
"The pope is still in seclusion," the elder glanced at the building behind him.
It was evident that this was where the Starfire Sect’s pope was secluded.
Sunan sneered, "Such a major event has happened, and your pope is still calm enough to remain in seclusion. Quite composed indeed."
Below the pope in the Starfire Sect were Ovijou the high priest and priests Jensen, Blake, and Yors.
Now, these four without exception all perished at Sunan’s hands, leaving the upper echelon of the Starfire Sect entirely wiped out.
It’s simply incomprehensible that their pope did not step out to manage the situation, but continued seclusion.
No wonder the Starfire Sect is in chaos now, even struck at its headquarters, nearly all members slaughtered.
"The secret chamber where the pope is secluded is made from refined steel, even a Legendary Knight cannot break it from the outside, and only Ovijou the high priest had the key to the chamber. We simply can’t open it or contact the pope."
Key?
Sunan recalled and shook his head.
When killing Ovijou, he was quite heavy-handed; apart from the holy artifact, everything on Ovijou was shattered into remnants by him, leaving no trace even if there was a key.
Looks like he needs to address this tendency to be overly forceful in the future.
Collecting his thoughts, Sunan stared at the building before him.
He was growing more curious.
From the followers’ descriptions, the Starfire Sect’s pope rarely appeared publicly, with Ovijou handling church affairs most of the time.
In fact, only Ovijou alone could see and communicate with the pope.
This was undoubtedly abnormal.
It almost seemed like the Starfire Sect was entirely under Ovijou’s control, with the pope being completely dispensable.
This was evidently not the way a normal church should operate.
