Synthetic Wizard-Chapter 142 - 111: A Telepathic War (Part 2)
Beside her, Carolina giggled and said, "These guys are certainly not as brave as our warriors, but they’re good enough as cannon fodder. The human soldiers of the surface world are not as tough as the Kobolds and Lizardmen."
"Don’t underestimate them."
The ruler of the Human-faced Lion City State, City Lord Yusula, spoke in a deep voice.
"Humans are not to be feared, but it’s the Wizards from the surface world that we should truly be wary of."
Mentioning the Wizards, both Pallida and Carolina’s expressions turned serious.
The battle a few months ago was still fresh in their minds. Just two Wizards had played tricks on the entire city-state, killing many of their kin, and finally left unscathed.
This was not only a great humiliation to them, but also made them deeply wary of the Wizards’ power.
It is said that the Wizards are among the most powerful beings on this continent. This, they had previously considered an exaggerated rumor, but now they had deeply realized the weight of those words.
"We interrogated the prisoners from the Thorn Flower Duchy. The exit above is the territory of the Starry Duchy, belonging to a marquisate called the Flashing Territory."
"A marquisate? That doesn’t sound too weak," Carolina raised an eyebrow.
The marquisates of the surface world, in terms of overall strength, were not weaker than their city-states, mainly because they could mobilize a much larger number of soldiers.
Even so, Carolina didn’t show the slightest bit of worry in her tone.
After all, they weren’t planning to occupy the surface world’s towns, just to plunder and leave.
The only thing they truly needed to face was the army of one town.
"Not only that, the nearest city to the exit is precisely Flash City’s central city, where the marquis resides, so the guard must be quite stringent."
"Moreover, I’ve sent spies to investigate. There are Stone Golems stationed at the exit, so there must be Wizards in Flash City."
"I think it probably has something to do with the two Wizards who infiltrated the city-state that day."
Pallida looked at Carolina, who pondered for a moment, then mused:
"One of those two Wizards should be from the Thorn Flower Duchy, the other’s origin is unknown, but listening to you, it’s likely the Wizard from the Flashing Territory."
Carolina’s face revealed a cold smile: "If that’s the case, all the better. It’s just right to avenge the injuries from last time!"
The grudge from her previous injury had always been on her mind, just waiting to find that Wizard and skin him alive!
"What’s the situation in the south now?"
Yusula suddenly spoke, interrupting the conversation between the two subordinates.
Pallida hesitated for a moment and said, "I’m not entirely sure, the spies I sent couldn’t get close to Kasham. Those bugs have laid pheromones everywhere within a five-kilometer radius of Kasham. Our people are discovered immediately when they get close."
"It seems they have recovered from the war two years ago and are starting to stir again."
Yusula frowned and quickly changed the subject.
"What reaction do the Red Widow and Duke Black have?"
"They have only sent people to monitor, and have made no other moves."
After pondering for a while, Yusula waved her hand and said, "Send a message saying we want to form an alliance with them."
Pallida looked hesitant: "We tricked them two years ago, will they still trust us now?"
"They have no choice," Yusula said coldly. "Neither Ghost Lake, Matu, nor Auson can stand against Kasham on their own. If they don’t join forces with us, the end result is everyone’s destruction."
"I believe the Red Widow and Duke Black will make a wise choice."
"Yes, my lord." Pallida nodded respectfully, saying no more.
"All right, we’re almost ready. Give the order to march!" Yusula issued the command in a deep voice.
But as soon as the words were out of her mouth, two Soul Devourer Hunters beside her suddenly stood up, baring their teeth and growling ominously toward the lakeshore.
Carolina’s expression changed, she shouted: "There are intruders!"
As the words fell, a thunderous sound came from afar.
Countless dazzling bolts of lightning tore through the darkness, descending from the sky and crashing into the dense Human-faced Lion forces!
In the blink of an eye, hundreds of Human-faced Lion warriors turned to charred remains, unable to even cry out before falling dead!
"Enemy attack!"
"Where is the attack coming from?"
"Quickly find the enemy, where are they?"
The Human-faced Lions were instantly thrown into chaos.
On the other side, the slave army, which had barely formed ranks, also fell into disarray due to the sudden change.
Human-faced Lion overseers drew their scimitars and shouted harshly to keep the slave army in line.
But the sudden appearance of the Golem Legion rendered their efforts futile.
No sooner had they appeared than the Golem Legion launched a ferocious charge against the Human-faced Lion forces.
Over eight hundred golems charged at once, raising billowing clouds of dust and exuding a terrifying aura like a mountainside avalanche, causing many Human-faced Lions to change color, with even the cowardly among them trembling and turning pale.
Things happened too suddenly!
No one had expected the enemy to appear out of nowhere, and in such staggering numbers.
At such close range, they had little time to react, no psychological preparation before being thrown into intense combat.
Within moments, the Human-faced Lions were in retreat, suffering heavy casualties.
As for the slave army on the other side, it was even more unfit for battle.
Sunan didn’t even dispatch more forces, just sent a dozen Stone Golems charging, and the slaves scattered in a flurry, no matter how the Human-faced Lion overseers shouted, they couldn’t hold them back.
With the Human-faced Lion overseers engaged by the Stone Golems, unable to regroup the chaotic army, the slaves fled even more exuberantly.
"How do they say it... heaven favors me?"
Seeing the advantageous situation before him, Sunan couldn’t help but grin.
Originally, he thought he would have to endure a tough battle, but unexpectedly, the Human-faced Lions had handed him an opening themselves. It seemed the war would soon be over.
While Sunan was in high spirits, the mood on the city wall among the three Human-faced Lion nobles was not so pleasant.
Watching their kin being slaughtered continuously, the three Human-faced Lion nobles were filled with both shock and fury.
Carolina immediately recognized Sunan, who had dropped his invisibility, although last time the other party was wearing a mask, she could never mistake that aura.
"It’s you again!" Carolina glared at Sunan, full of anger.
Yusula and Pallida quickly realized this person was one of the Wizards who had attacked the city-state last time.
With new hatred added to old grievances, the three glared at Sunan with intense resentment, letting out a scream as their bodies simultaneously rose into the air, charging swiftly toward Sunan.
Midair, the three’s Magic Staffs all burst forth with eerie glows, shining brightly in the darkness.
Countless bolts of lightning, flames, and ice appeared out of nowhere, surging toward Sunan like a tidal wave.
The Human-faced Lion nobility couldn’t manipulate elemental forces, these were all Illusion Techniques.
Yet fatal attacks often lurk within these illusions.
The Human-faced Lions excelled in deceitful attacks that mingled truth with illusion, intermixed with the real, and the unwary were prone to heavy losses.
Like now, Sunan had already noticed the few dark serpents hidden within the heat waves, their forked tongues flicking, ready to launch a fierce strike the moment he let his guard down.
But he paid no mind.
With the Ring of Supreme Protection, he wasn’t worried about getting harmed by the Human-faced Lion nobles’ attacks.
Without any intention to defend, Sunan unhesitatingly activated the Disaster Ring on his left hand.
Bang!
The raging lightning, flames, and ice engulfed Sunan.
Seeing this scene, the three Human-faced Lion nobles’ faces lit up with joy, but soon realized something was amiss.
The anticipated anguished screams never came!
Instead, a series of cracking sounds echoed beside them, as if ice was forming.
The next second, the myriad illusions vanished completely.
A visually perceptible snow-white shockwave suddenly spread out.
Caught off guard, the three Human-faced Lion nobles were simultaneously hit by the shockwave, their whole bodies stiffening as a layer of frost instantly coated their surfaces.
At the same time, four massive gray claw shadows appeared out of nowhere, clawing fiercely at Pallida.
Four massive gray claws slashed through the void like flashes of lightning, clawing at Pallida from different directions.
Calamity Claw X4!
