Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Selling the Bag

"I’m sorry!" Moira Young stared in panic at the mess she had caused, with beef juice dripping down the table, almost staining the man’s pants!

The man was about to raise his head and scold her, but upon seeing Moira Young’s innocent face, his expression shifted from anger to something else.

"Forget it, just wipe the table."

"Little sister, are you here to experience life? No matter how I look at you, you don’t seem like someone who works as a waiter!"

Manager Liu heard the commotion and came over, frowning at the mess on the table. He apologized to the customer first and then called Moira Young back to the office.

Moira knew she had made a mistake just as she started working, and she had no defense, so she stood silently, waiting to be reprimanded.

"You should leave. We can’t accommodate you here," Manager Liu said sternly with a hard tone.

Then he took out her employment form, ripped it up in front of her, and threw it in the trash, "Take off the uniform while it’s still barely warm, pack it in a bag, and bring it over."

Moira watched helplessly as her first job was lost like this, feeling a deep sense of disappointment. She had been confident she could do well, but reality proved otherwise.

With slumped shoulders, she went to the dressing room, feeling for the first time how useless she was for failing at such a small task.

Moira stood on tiptoe to open the locker, feeling around but not finding her bag. Her heart sank as she stood on the small stool next to her and saw that the bag was missing from the locker!

She felt a sting in her nose and warmth in her eyes. Forget about the bag’s value, but it had her clothes inside, which she needed to change into before returning the uniform to the manager...

"Are you done?" Manager Liu impatiently knocked on the door.

Moira’s nerves were shot. She panicked, and accidentally fell off the stool, landing on the floor!

She inhaled sharply, scrunching her nose to keep from crying.

She got up from the floor, unlocked the door, and said with a slight choke, "My bag is gone, and my clothes are inside."

Manager Liu was taken aback for a moment, then instantly turned fierce: "I don’t know what bad luck I brought on! I won’t charge you for the clothes, just leave already!"

"Thank you, Manager."

As Manager Liu was about to leave, Moira stopped him.

"Manager Liu, have you seen my bag?" Moira asked, looking into his eyes.

"If your fake bag is lost, it’s lost. Just hurry up and get out," Manager Liu’s eyes flickered evasively.

"Even if it’s fake, don’t I have the right to get it back?" Moira suddenly found something off in his gaze; she was determined the bag had been lost in the store, and only staff had access to the dressing room.

"What do you want?"

Without thinking, Moira answered, "Check the surveillance. We’ll find out who went to the locker room in no time."

It’s the only valuable thing she had to sell. Penniless, it was her lifeline, so she had to get it back.

"The store is so busy, we don’t have time to check the surveillance. Come back in a few days when there are no customers," Manager Liu wanted to dismiss her quickly. He saw Moira as naive and easy to fool, thinking a few words would cover up the matter. The surveillance only kept footage for five days. As long as she was stalled for five days, it would no longer be available.

Though reluctant, Moira had no choice but to leave in her work uniform.

Near here, there are many upscale Western-style restaurants. Moira passed by the entrance of one store and felt it was somewhat familiar, and upon a closer look, realized she had been here before.

This was where Adrian Grant introduced Sylvia Lopez to Julian Sinclair.

"Adrian, it’s only seven o’clock, the night is young. Why are you heading home already?" a sultry female voice came from inside.

"There’s a big baby at home to take care of, so I need to go home and check on it early," Adrian Grant’s voice also came from inside.

Moira tensed up, the black-brown pupils of her eyes shrinking. Her mind told her to run, but her legs wouldn’t move!

Seeing Adrian Grant come out, she finally managed to command her numb limbs.

"Moira Young?" Adrian Grant called out to her.

Moira kept walking without stopping. The faster Adrian called, the faster she ran.

"Why are you running? I’m not Julian Sinclair!" Moira could never outrun Adrian Grant; he caught up to her.

Clenching her teeth, Moira struggled fiercely, determined not to see him!

"Come on, missy, I’m Adrian Grant, not Julian Sinclair. You can’t hate me as well, can you?" Adrian said, releasing his grip when he saw how intensely she struggled. "Don’t run; I have something to ask you."

Moira turned her face away, remaining silent.

"What’s this outfit you’re wearing?" He looked at the words on her clothing, "Korean BBQ?"

Adrian was stunned, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, and he couldn’t help but ask, "Wasn’t the Porter family treating you well? Why would you work in such a place?"

Moira suddenly turned around, glaring at Adrian with eyes that were turning bloodshot.

Adrian realized he had spoken without thinking.

He coughed lightly, a bit awkwardly, "You’ve called me ’brother’ for so many years. Until you’re married off, I’ll cover all your living expenses, okay?"

"Here, take this." Adrian took out a card, "It doesn’t have a password, so you can swipe it directly or withdraw cash."

Moira refused to accept his money, not even glancing at the card. She cast a sidelong look at Adrian, preparing to turn around and leave.

As she turned, she noticed someone not far away taking pictures of her with a camera!

The person quickly hid when spotted, and Moira couldn’t see who it was.

"What are you looking at? Just take it; my arm is getting sore," Adrian pulled her hand to place the card in her palm.

Moira remained silent, stubbornly throwing the card back at him.

"If your Uncle knows how you’re living now, he’d be very upset," Adrian sighed. Julian had only just recovered a little bit of spirit; Adrian didn’t dare mention Moira’s struggles and could only speak positively.

"I don’t have an uncle; I’m an orphan," Moira replied with unwavering determination, her gaze firm, allowing no rebuttal.

Adrian knew that when she said "no," she truly meant it, so he put the card back in his wallet, "This girl, why are you so stubborn!"

"I won’t force you; just tell me what to do so you don’t hate me along with him."

Adrian was trying hard to distance himself from Julian Sinclair, "He is him, and I am me. He’s not your uncle anymore, but I’m still your brother Adrian, right?"

Suddenly, Moira remembered her clothes and bag were still at the BBQ restaurant; she hesitated, unsure if she should ask him for help.

"Feel here, I’m really sincere," Adrian clasped her hand over his chest, only for Moira to pull away with a disdainful look.

"My bag was stolen from that place, help me get it back," Moira glanced at the woman waiting by the roadside for Adrian, her mind made up.

Without a word, Adrian went into the restaurant and soon came out with Moira’s bag.

Moira accepted the bag, took out the clothes, hugged them, and handed the bag to Adrian’s companion.

The companion was confused, unsure of what Moira meant, looking at Adrian, who shrugged, also puzzled.

Moira pushed the bag forward, signaling her to take it.

The companion hesitantly took it, and at that moment, Moira turned to Adrian, expressionless, holding out her hand: "Half price, six hundred thousand."

Adrian blinked and almost laughed out loud, realizing he’d been tricked by the little girl!

The companion’s hand shook, instinctively tightening the grip on the bag: "Six... six hundred thousand, and that’s half price?"

Adrian gestured for her to stay calm, "Yes, you heard right."

Julian Sinclair had bought Moira countless things, like this bag, which he purchased casually, not even caring what it looked like.

Adrian pursed his lips in a smile, suddenly feeling this girl wouldn’t have a hard life in the future after all.
