Sweet Wife So Charming: CEO: Hold Back Your Heart-Chapter 418: Companionship
Aiden Webb lightly curled his lips and took a sip of the soup.
For a moment, the small kitchen was a bit silent, permeated with a faint sense of melancholy.
Moira Young felt the atmosphere was a bit strange, glanced at Aiden opposite her, and started talking about something else.
"Brother, let me tell you, Joe’s brother is so funny. He always teases Joe, just now in the video he threw a huge snowball at Joe. Joe even sent me a message on WeChat saying her brother pushed her into the snow, which made her so angry that she put snow down his collar, hahaha."
Aiden listened to Moira’s efforts to lighten the mood, softened his expression, and joined in.
"Really? Let’s have a snowball fight in a few days too."
"That sounds great, wait, your arm is injured."
"No problem, I can win with one hand."
Moira scrunched her nose, a bit unconvinced: "Then we’ll see who wins. I don’t believe you can beat me with just one hand."
Aiden nodded, and the previous gloom was completely swept away.
After dinner, watching Moira still cleaning up in the kitchen, Aiden felt that this matter had to proceed slowly, but it should be accelerated on the agenda.
If it takes too long, he fears more people will get hurt.
Meanwhile, Moira, tidying up the dishes while humming a tune, seemed to be in a very good mood.
She wasn’t sure why, even though she had only known Aiden for a few months, they were much closer than Heath Sterling and Carter Porter.
In front of Aiden, she could always return to innocence, safely being a little girl who knows nothing. Even though outsiders said Aiden was cold as ice, she just felt at ease with him.
But this sense of ease was completely different from the feeling Julian Sinclair gave her, one was familial, the other romantic...
Aiden’s earlier words echoed, where he said he found his biological sister. A bitter smile tugged at Moira’s lips, and her heart felt inexplicably heavy.
Perhaps when Aiden reunites with his real sister, this status-less foster sister would have to step aside graciously?
A week later, Aiden finally got the cast off his arm.
The two of them left the hospital, close to the Lunar New Year, and the streets were decorated with rows of red lanterns, shops around had begun to close for the holiday.
"Oh, it’s snowing again." Moira turned her palms upward, looking up at the gray sky, murmuring.
Aiden placed Moira’s furry hat on her head: "Home for dinner?"
Adjusting the hat’s brim, Moira replied: "Let’s eat at home; at this time anywhere we could eat is likely closed."
Aiden raised his eyebrows: "There’s a place, I’ll take you."
As he spoke, a driver pulled up in front of them.
"To Old Lane," Aiden told the driver calmly.
Moira blinked, turning to look at the person beside her: "What’s Old Lane?"
"You’ll know when we get there."
Seeing the man being secretive with her questions unanswered, Moira stuck her tongue out, leaned back in the car seat, and began playing on her phone.
Traffic was sparse on the road, and what normally took an hour, this time took about half an hour.
The mouth of the alley was peaceful and far-reaching, blanketed in snow.
"Wow, there’s a place like this." Moira followed Aiden, touching the aged ancient walls.
After walking a short distance, they reached the entrance, a square courtyard, with a towering tree standing upright, branches wrapped in white snow, and wisps of white smoke rising from the roof.
Moira turned to Aiden, unable to stop herself from giving a thumbs up; she hadn’t seen such a quaint and pastoral house in a long time.
"Creak." The door opened, and a woman wearing a plain flowery outfit with a woolen shawl appeared, "Aiden, you’re here."
Aiden nodded, leading Moira up: "Ms. Sloane."
The person called Ms. Sloane smiled, looking at the slightly apprehensive Moira beside her: "Is this the foster sister you mentioned before?"
Aiden answered affirmatively, and Moira, a bit shy, still smiled generously.
Observing Moira’s features carefully, she took her by the hand inside, with Aiden following behind.
"Can I call you Moira?"
Moira nodded.
"Your brother, you know, often comes here to eat. I thought he wouldn’t come during the New Year, but got the call yesterday saying he’d bring you, so I’ve prepared your favorite dishes for you to carefully savor and tell me how they are."
As she spoke, she led the two inside.
"Alright, Ms. Sloane, I will savor them well."
Ms. Sloane replied with a smile, turned and left them to sit as they pleased.
"Brother, is she your friend?" Moira followed Aiden, sitting opposite him, removing her hat and scarf, ruffling her hair.
Aiden nodded, beginning to make tea: "Yes, I frequently came here to eat when I was young, and later, I came here to eat after each filming."
Moira widened her eyes: "No wonder, you seem very familiar with the owner, but it seems like there aren’t many people around."
Aiden placed a teacup in front of Moira, saying: "Yes, today it’s just us. Coming to Ms. Sloane’s requires a reservation; she only serves five families a day."
"How impressive." Just as Moira was speaking, she saw Ms. Sloane bringing someone over.
Placing dishes one by one, Ms. Sloane said: "These are specially prepared for the two of you." Turning her face, she said to Moira: "No need to hold back here, Moira. Let me know what you’d like to eat. If you want to come by, just give me a call, and come right over."
Moira felt flattered, smiled to Ms. Sloane with a nod: "Don’t worry, I definitely won’t hold back when the time comes."
"Then you enjoy, I’ll head over there."
The two nodded as they watched Ms. Sloane leave.
Picking up their chopsticks, Moira gave a thumbs up to the dishes, and halfway through eating, she seemed to remember something and said: "Brother, is your family big? During the New Year, do you eat lots of delicious food?"
The chopsticks in his hand paused, feeling a slight pang in his heart, Aiden looked up at Moira, who was still composed: "Yes, but this year I won’t be going back, I’ll stay with you."
Moira held the cup, momentarily stunned: "With me!" She blinked hard, then laughed, "Bro, with me it’s just going to be boring, just the two of us, you’ll find it dull."
"No, I won’t." Aiden affirmed.
Moira looked down, poked her bowl of vegetables: "You don’t have to keep me company on purpose."
"It’s not on purpose, it’s normal." Aiden said nonchalantly, placing a piece of meat in Moira’s dish.
The corners of her mouth lifted gently, and her heart bubbled with joy. Moira picked up the piece of meat with her chopsticks, saying: "Then let’s stock up on New Year supplies together later."
Aiden nodded, serving a bowl of soup: "Alright."
Moira raised her head, her eyes narrowed in a smile, she truly loved New Year’s, loved the days when everyone gathered together.
Fortunately, this year Aiden is by her side.
