Chapter 414: Chapter 414: Guidance

"Ahem, I’m only here for the food."

Moira Young heard this, drinking her porridge with her head down and internally rolling her eyes. Aiden Webb noticed and chuckled quietly. Silence followed, broken only by the sound of the three of them eating.

Half an hour later, when Laura Lowe finished eating, Moira Young stood up to clear the dishes. Aiden offered to help, but got his hand slapped away.

"Bro, don’t move. Let me do it. You should get up and walk around. I’ll wash the dishes and fetch some water."

"Exactly, young master. Your arm is still injured. Let your good sister handle these things. I’ll keep you company on the balcony," Laura chimed in.

Moira shot her a glance, secretly curling her lips: "Yeah, bro, go breathe some fresh air on the balcony."

She smiled at Aiden and took the items out to the washing area.

Aiden ignored Laura and stretched his long legs towards the balcony.

"Buzz buzz buzz." The phone rang. Aiden turned around and picked up the phone from the bedside table, seeing his mom’s caller ID, his eyes softened.

"Hey, Mom."

"You still remember I’m your mom, huh? Got into the hospital and didn’t even tell me," Mrs. Winslow’s voice rained down, as her son’s gentle tone fueled her exasperation.

"How did you find out?" Aiden frowned slightly, glancing sideways at Laura sitting on the balcony, her back to him.

Mrs. Winslow was momentarily speechless, then asserted, "Never mind how I know. You’re something, aren’t you? In trouble and won’t even tell your parents. Don’t you know how worried we were after hearing the news?"

"Mom, I’m fine. Don’t worry."

Mrs. Winslow snorted, "Of course, I know you’re fine, otherwise, how could I stay put?"

Hearing his mother mumble softly with grievances, Aiden’s expression softened further.

"By the way, have you been seeing some young girl lately?"

"What girl?"

Mrs. Winslow snapped, "Don’t play dumb. It’s Moira Young, isn’t it? There’s been gossip about you two. I tell you, these young girls are reckless, think they can do anything just because they’re pretty. Be careful and stay away from her. I heard you two have been seen together a lot recently. There’s Lulu, such a nice girl, and you don’t spend enough time with her. Why get involved with messy people?"

Aiden’s face turned stern, "Mom, don’t listen to rumors. Moira is a wonderful girl. We’ve sworn to be siblings. Those rumors are not true."

"Since when? You accepted a sister without telling us."

Mrs. Winslow knew her son well enough. For someone to become his sworn sister, she couldn’t be as bad as the gossip said, they at least still trusted their son.

"Mom, I’ll bring her over to meet you in due time. She’s really nice, cares a lot for those around her. Though she’s been caught in turmoil several times, she’s never lost hope, quite like our family," Aiden patiently explained, feeling a dull ache inside. How he wished he could just tell his parents that this sister was not sworn but real, their precious daughter.

"And you aren’t worried that this young girl might hear you and wouldn’t want to come over," Mrs. Winslow teased.

Aiden switched the phone to his right ear and sat on the sofa.

"Don’t worry, I’ve got it. As for the outside rumors, just ignore them. They aren’t true."

"Alright, I get it. Since you aren’t in that kind of relationship, I’m relieved. But I still have to remind you, the Winslow family will never accept a daughter-in-law from the entertainment industry, you got that?" Mrs. Winslow sternly warned.

Shaking his head, Aiden sighed, "Moira and I are just siblings. We could never be together, rest assured."

"If that’s the case, I have no objections. But adopting a sister isn’t a trivial matter. I need to talk to your dad and see when we should meet her." Mrs. Winslow sighed softly, even though she trusted Aiden’s judgment, she still had some concerns.

The entertainment industry is a mix of characters. Who knows what intentions this young girl really has? What if she’s so scheming that even their precious son gets deceived?

Aiden replied calmly, "Alright, I’ll arrange a time to talk to Moira."

Ending the call, he walked to the balcony with a stern face and stood behind Laura.

"Enjoying the view?"

Laura, having listened to the whole conversation and knowing she’d been exposed, bit her lip and forced herself to stay composed, "Yes, it’s good."

Both looked up at the distant sun, its golden light shimmering through the leaves rustled by the breeze.

"Then be obedient and stay out of my business."

Laura stood up abruptly, turning pale as she looked at Aiden.

"Young master, I just don’t want you to be deceived."

Aiden chuckled coldly, "You know your intentions better than anyone. If it happens again, there’s no place for you beside me."

"You... Young master, I’ve known you longer than she has. Are you going to kick me out because of that woman?" Laura’s disbelief raised her voice slightly.

"Mmm." A simple reply, he walked to the chair and sat down, ignoring the woman fuming with anger.

Laura felt pained and angry at Aiden’s indifference and coldness. Biting her lip, she picked up her bag and walked briskly towards the door.

Opening the door, she found Moira Young about to enter, shot her a resentful glare, and stormed off in her high heels.

Moira, feeling baffled, watched Laura’s retreating back in confusion, then walked in carrying her things.

"Did you two argue?" she asked while placing the lunchbox and water kettle aside.

Aiden answered blandly, "No."

"Then why was Laura..." Noticing Aiden shrug, Moira swallowed back her words, "Why aren’t you using a blanket?" 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Saying this, she fetched a blanket from the cabinet and covered Aiden with it.

She wasn’t foolish, she could guess why they were upset. However, since Aiden didn’t want her to know, she wouldn’t dwell on it and let unpleasant matters resurface.

"What are you planning to do later?" Aiden asked softly, watching Moira, who had returned to the kitchen to make hot cocoa.

"I don’t know, just here to keep you company."

"Read a book, did you bring any?"

Moira’s eyes lit up, "Haha, yes, I did. Bro, you’re amazing. How did you know I would?"

She placed two mugs of hot cocoa on the table, fetched "The Actor’s Self-Cultivation 2" from her suitcase, and they sat together on the balcony.

The sunlight was perfect, casting a silvery glow everywhere. Though the weather was chilly, it couldn’t overshadow the warmth and comfort filling the room.

Two days later, the doctor came for a check-up. After an examination, he informed Aiden that he could go home to recuperate.

"That’s great, we can finally go back. But the doctor said you still need to heal. Don’t worry, bro. When we get back, I’ll learn how to make soup. Even though your arm is hurt, you can still guide me from the side."
