Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Counterattack

The coffee hit the ground, splashing all over Joe, the scalding liquid almost bringing tears to her eyes.

Before she could open her mouth to explain, Julie snapped, "What are you standing there for? Go buy another one, quickly!"

"I..."

"What ’I’? If you don’t go, be careful, or I’ll make sure you can’t stay at our company!" This was a blatant threat.

Joe held back her tears of grievance, bowing her head tightly and biting her lower lip. After a long time, she nodded, "Okay, I’ll go."

"So stupid." The more Julie looked at Joe, the more she found her an eyesore; of course, being one of Moira Young’s people, looking at her was infuriating.

Joe turned and left, tears instantly slipping down her cheeks.

Her calves and the tops of her feet were reddened by the hot coffee, the fiery pain making her want to cry out loud.

Not long after, she bought another cup of less sugary coffee and handed it to Julie, noticing Julie’s changing expression the moment she took it.

Sure enough, in the next second, Julie dropped the coffee on the floor once more, her face sullen, "You can’t even buy a coffee properly? Are you trying to burn me to death with something so hot?"

Because she was prepared earlier, this time Joe smartly stepped back a few steps in advance and avoided getting splashed all over.

She quietly explained, "You didn’t say whether you wanted it iced or hot."

Julie didn’t expect Joe to talk back and immediately her face changed with anger, "Are you rebelling against me? How dare you speak to me like that?"

"I’m just stating a fact." Joe didn’t know where her courage came from, but she retorted unwillingly.

Slap!

The loud sound of a slap echoed through the office, and Joe clutched her slapped face in disbelief, tears welling up in her eyes again.

"Who do you think you are? How dare a little assistant like you act presumptuous in front of me?" Julie had no intention of letting Joe go, her vicious demeanor resembling an irate shrew.

Joe pressed her lips together in grievance and said nothing.

Julie, however, only intensified her demands, "Aren’t you going to buy another one!?"

Having no choice, she had to make another trip. But because today her shoes didn’t fit well, running back and forth a few times, her heels already chafed and bleeding.

She couldn’t care about that, dragging her injured foot to buy another coffee for Julie.

Julie seemed to want to make things difficult for her, but under persuasion from others, finally relented.

She snorted coldly at Joe, "I’ll let you off this time, give you a lesson, next time you see me, bow and greet me properly, or I won’t mind teaching you how to behave again, got it?"

Joe’s eyes reddened, she said nothing, turned around and dragged her weary body back to Moira Young’s office.

Moira Young heard the door open, and without looking up, she asked, "Didn’t you say you were going to buy drinks? Why did it take so long?"

"Here’s your favorite milk tea, Moira." Joe automatically bowed her head and handed the warm milk tea to Moira Young.

"Thanks." Moira Young took it, but in the next instant saw her cheek was somewhat swollen, her expression darkening, and she asked coldly, "What’s wrong with your face?"

Upon hearing Moira Young’s question, Joe lowered her head even further, shaking it, explaining, "I accidentally fell."

"What? Are you saying I’m a fool in your eyes?" Moira Young laughed, but it was out of anger.

"I..."

"Tell the truth."

The swelling was so obvious, it was clear she had been hit.

Thinking of this, Moira Young’s expression suddenly darkened, she wasn’t someone who caused trouble but that didn’t mean she could be bullied.

Under Moira Young’s all-seeing gaze, Joe didn’t dare lie anymore, and thinking about the harassment from Julie earlier, her eyes reddened with grievance.

In a trembling voice, she recounted the whole incident, and by the end, she was sobbing, looking both pitiful and heart-wrenching.

Moira Young listened and suddenly stood up, her gaze piercingly cold, "Let’s go."

Joe wiped her tears, puzzled, "Go where?"

"To demand an explanation." With that, she pulled Joe along quickly, but as they moved forward, Joe suddenly gasped.

Following Joe’s movements, Moira Young glanced at her foot, and what she saw made her face even colder.

"Did she do this too?" Looking at the reddish spots on Joe’s calves and feet and the still bleeding heel, Moira Young’s brow furrowed tightly.

Joe explained truthfully, "The heel was because the shoes didn’t fit...

"Okay, no need to say more, come with me!" Moira Young pulled Joe along, but considering Joe’s condition, she subconsciously slowed her pace.

At the moment, Julie was leisurely sitting in her office, enjoying her coffee and the air conditioning, looking thoroughly relaxed.

As she reclined on the sofa, resting her eyes, the office door suddenly burst open with such force that it almost made her drop her coffee to the floor.

Catching sight of who burst in, she calmed down instead, her lips curving into a mocking smile, "Who is it with such a temper? Turns out it’s the washed-up actress Moira Young?"

"Washed-up actress? Is that what they’re calling someone who’s been with the company for ten years and still hasn’t gotten a role? Moira Young retorted.

"You!" This was Julie’s first time facing Moira Young directly, she didn’t expect Moira Young to be so sharp-tongued.

Moira Young didn’t want to waste words with Julie, directly pulled Joe over, and pointed at her face, "Excuse me, this washed-up actress wants to know what happened to my assistant’s face?"

Julie slowly got up, looking at Joe’s swollen face with not a hint of guilt, but instead sneered, "Isn’t it just a slap? And she turned around to tattle? How interesting."

"Oh? Is that so?" Moira Young’s expression darkened further, seeing Julie’s nonchalant attitude ignited a nameless fire in her heart.

"Your little assistant is really incompetent, can’t even buy a coffee right, don’t you think she deserved the slap?" Julie said, sighing, "I was helping you educate her, you should be thanking me."

Moira Young coldly watched her without speaking, but Julie thought she was too scared to speak up, so she continued speaking on her own.

"Moira Young, your assistant is just like you, no skills and very stubborn, really annoying."

With Fiona Rhodes backing her up, she was not afraid of someone without any status or background like Moira Young.

Just as she was about to open her mouth to humiliate Moira Young, a loud slap was heard in the office.

Before the sound had even faded, another resounding slap echoed.

Julie was stunned, it took her quite a while to react.

She held her face, which was slapped on both sides, in disbelief, looking at Moira Young.

"You dare hit me?"

Moira Young laughed coldly, "I’m hitting exactly you."

"Do you know I’m someone under Fiona Rhodes?" Julie couldn’t believe Moira Young actually dared to hit her.

"Oh? Aren’t you something? If you’re so competent, go complain to your so-called Fiona Rhodes?" Moira Young completely disregarded Julie.

After saying that, Moira Young seemed to remember something and continued, "Oh, I forgot to tell you, not only you, if Fiona Rhodes herself messes with me, I won’t hesitate to hit her just the same."
