Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband-Chapter 209: The Demon Queen Reduced to a Janitor?!
Chapter 209: The Demon Queen Reduced to a Janitor?!
Medeia bit her lower lip, avoiding his gaze. "But I couldn’t think of another answer. I mean, what else was I supposed to say? ’Conquer the world with my unlimited power?’"
She was an expert at lying to people, but lying about something imaginary just wasn’t her thing.
Trying to find an excuse, she added, "Besides, we don’t even know if the other serum is safe. So, my answer wouldn’t have affected the final outcome anyway."
Lucian fell silent for a moment before nodding. "You’re right. I’m sorry, you didn’t do anything wrong."
He took a deep breath, then added, "But I think taking the serum is the only proof we need to show the guards to convince them we’ve completed Doctor Shuri’s test."
Without hesitation, Lucian grabbed a pen from the desk and transformed it into a syringe needle.
"Give me your hand." He gestured for Medeia to extend her arm, and she complied without question.
Then, without warning, he stabbed the needle into her arm.
Medeia winced. He wasn’t a professional, and his technique was a little rough, so it felt hurt.
"I’m sorry." Lucian quickly pressed a cotton pad against the tiny puncture wound, catching the small drop of blood that surfaced.
Then, he kissed her hand.
Once. Twice.
Several times.
"Does it still hurt?" he murmured against her skin.
Medeia’s face burned beneath the mask. Her voice came out quieter than she intended. "No."
They were in the middle of an enemy base, so how could he still act this sweet?!
After Lucian pricked his own hand with the needle as well, they immediately left the recruitment office.
"Doctor Shuri has given you your vitamins?"
The soldier who had escorted them earlier was waiting right outside the door.
Lucian and Medeia wordlessly rolled up their sleeves, showing the fresh injection marks on their arms.
The soldier nodded in approval. "Great. Then, you’re ready to start working here. Due to a few rebellious individuals recently, we’re short on people, so I’ll be assigning you tasks starting today."
He turned and walked down the corridor, and like obedient ducklings following their mother, Lucian and Medeia trailed behind him.
"Sergeant, you’ll be in charge of delivering lunch to the kids." The soldier instructed, "Make sure the food is distributed before 1 PM, or you’ll be punished."
"Kids?" Lucian asked, narrowing his eyes. "I didn’t know there were children living here."
The soldier immediately gave him a sharp look.
"Just do your job, Sergeant. You don’t need to question anything that happens here." His tone turned colder. "Everything inside this facility is classified. If you ever leak information to outsiders, the General will ensure you receive severe punishment."
A severe punishment?
Would that be like the previous executions?
Getting buried in the sand ... letting the flesh-eating bugs crawl onto their bodies... devouring them alive?
Just thinking about it sent an unpleasant shiver down Medeia’s spine.
The soldier’s gaze then shifted toward her.
"And you, Corporal." His voice was impassive. "You’ll be in charge of cleaning the bathrooms and toilets. Some of the toilets have water issues, so you better use your mutant ability to clear them out."
Medeia’s face instantly paled. She slowly turned toward Lucian, widening her eyes in disbelief.
Cleaning the toilets?!
She didn’t sneak into this damn base just to clean up other people’s shit!
Was that all her water ability was good for? To unclog toilets?! She could refill water tanks, purify drinking water, literally anything besides this!
Lucian only responded with a stiff smile, a silent plea for her to hold back her anger just for now.
Medeia shot him a glare unlike any she had ever given him before, but he had the audacity to turn his face away.
How dare he ignore his own wife like this?!
"Corporal, you’ll be following him." The soldier gestured toward another guard passing by in the corridor. "He’s in charge of cleaning the toilets and bathrooms today. Show him the way."
Medeia clenched her fists. Before walking away, she glanced at Lucian one last time, but he still refused to meet her eyes.
At this point, she didn’t know who she was more furious at, the soldier who gave her this ridiculous job, or Lucian for not backing her up.
She spent the entire walk down the corridor to the second-floor restroom grumbling under her breath, but forced herself to stay calm. The last thing she needed was to make the soldier ahead of her suspicious. frёewebnoѵēl.com
"Here." The soldier finally stopped in front of the bathroom.
"It’s been two weeks since these toilets were properly cleaned," he explained. "The water has been clogged for a while. I’ll be back in an hour to check your work and I expect to see spotless toilets by then."
Medeia gritted her teeth so hard her jaw ached. Her fingers clenched into fists, nails digging into her palms.
If she wasn’t undercover, that soldier would be lying on the floor unconscious right now.
Never in her entire existence as the Demon Queen had she been forced to clean a toilet!
As soon as the soldier left, she stomped her foot hard against the ground, only for her face to twist in absolute horror when she finally took a proper look at the so-called restroom.
It wasn’t a restroom. It was a crime scene.
The floor was stained, the walls had questionable streaks, and the stalls—oh hell, the stalls.
It looked less like a bathroom and more like a public execution site for hygiene itself.
No. No. Hell. No.
Medeia spun on her heels and bolted out, barely making it two steps before gagging as the overpowering stench filled her nose.
She was not doing this. She didn’t infiltrate this place just to become a janitor.
For a moment, she could hear Lucian’s voice in her head. "Medeia, don’t be reckless."
Yeah? Well, at this point, She’d rather pick a fight with the General himself than step foot back in that hellhole.
With a disgusted shudder, Medeia summoned a small wave of water and washed off the soles of her boots, making damn sure none of that filth was coming with her.
Despite its dull, lifeless exterior, the interior of The Metal Cube was unexpectedly vast.
Since entering the facility, it felt like she had been walking for nearly thirty minutes, and yet, the corridors still stretched endlessly ahead of her.
She was starting to feel like a rat trapped in a maze.
[It’s because the corridors are designed to loop around, Host.]
