Chapter 147: First Snow (2)

Lucian blinked in surprise. "You’ve never seen snow before?"

She chuckled lightly. "It’s not that I’ve never seen snow, but this is the first time I’ve seen it and not ... been afraid of it."

Back in Hell, whenever Medeia made a mistake, Lucifer would cast her into the coldest Hell, locking her there until she begged for mercy.

That place was always buried under a thick blanket of white snow, relentlessly battered by violent snowstorms.

The sinners would turn into ice statues the moment they were thrown in, but because Medeia was a demon, she could endure the cold far better than they could.

Still, the endless stretch of snow always felt so lonely and cruel, a constant reminder of Lucifer’s harsh punishment.

It made her despise snow more than anything.

But now, it is different.

Rather than a threat, the snow felt soft, delicate, and surprisingly gentle in her hand.

Lucian hugged her from behind, then placed his chin on her shoulder. "You’re safe here, so you don’t have a reason to be afraid anymore."

The air turned colder, but her body remained warm in Lucian’s embrace.

Maybe that was the real reason why she didn’t hate the snow—Lucian was there with her.

"You know, in my hometown, if we make a wish when the first snow falls, our wish will come true," Lucian said.

Medeia chuckled. "What kind of myth is that? Isn’t that the same as worshiping snow instead of God?"

"It’s just a tradition, and ... instead of praying, it’s more like hoping," Lucian explained. "It’s more like manifesting something you desire."

Hope? Medeia used to think that hoping for something was pointless because, despite hoping every day to escape from Hell, she had remained there for thousands of years.

But now, she was starting to believe in it, because she wasn’t in Hell anymore, and she had a wonderful boyfriend—soon-to-be husband—by her side.

"Then, I hope we can make some spices so our food isn’t so bland anymore," Medeia said.

"That’s not how it works, My Love." Lucian kissed her cheek. "If you say it out loud, your wish might not come true. You have to say it in your heart, because that’s where our deepest hopes lie."

"Oh, then I take it back," Medeia let out a harsh sigh. "I don’t want my food to be bland forever because of that wish."

She asked, "So, what should I do?"

Lucian smiled softly. "Just close your eyes and wish for what you desire most in your heart."

Medeia followed his instructions, closing her eyes and letting her thoughts drift to what she truly wanted.

I hope my life is always filled with his warmth. And ... I hope he stays by my side, through every year, every season, and every lifetime.

And please, take away his damn insomnia away and make him fuck me more.

Moments later, they both opened their eyes at the same time. Medeia asked with a teasing smile, "Are you done making your wish?"

Lucian nodded.

Medeia raised an eyebrow. "Is that wish about me?"

Lucian pulled her closer, burying his face in the curve of her neck. "I won’t reveal it. My lips are sealed."

Medeia laughed, amused by the fact that Lucian truly believed in the myth.

She was just about to kiss him when the bell in the tower suddenly rang, making both of them pull away.

The bell was used to warn everyone at the base of approaching threats, like monsters or intruders.

However, Medeia hadn’t expected it to ring right as the first snow began to fall.

"I see a horde of motorcycles entering Red Canyon!" shouted the guard in the tower.

He looked through the binoculars several times to make sure he wasn’t mistaken.

Vehicles were a rare commodity in the doomsday world. Not only did they lack the resources to repair the machines, but they also struggled to find gasoline.

Because of this, only people from large alliances with abundant resources could afford to use vehicles.

Aside from them, bandits could acquire vehicles by stealing them from others or from alliances.

Medeia immediately rushed toward the tower. She asked, "Can you guess where they came from?"

The guard shouted back at her, "No! I didn’t see any symbols on their vehicles, so I have no idea where they’re from."

So, maybe they were bandits.

Lucian had warned her that they couldn’t avoid the bandits forever, and sooner or later, they would start flocking to their base.

Especially as winter approached.

"They’re a bit late, aren’t they? They should’ve tried to rob us before winter came," Medeia said.

Lucian guessed, "Maybe they’re doing this on purpose, waiting for us to gather more winter supplies."

"Leader, should I ask the hunters to take them down?"

The corner of Medeia’s mouth slowly lifted. "No, let me handle them."

After spending two months cooped up in the tent, she was finally getting the chance to harvest points from the bad guys.

But the most important thing was, she could finally devour human souls again.

"I’m really starving right now." She let out a laugh that sounded eerily like a demon enjoying the torture of humans.

But when she realized Lucian was standing right next to her, she immediately stopped laughing and pressed her lips together.

"People will think I’m a demon, right?" Medeia asked in a quiet voice.

Lucian replied, "You are, in fact, a demon, my love." He whispered near her ear, "My beautiful demon."

Medeia quickly pulled her face away from him. What the hell was that?!

How could his voice sound more alluring when they were supposed to be fighting, not ... well, you know? Fucking.Lucian chuckled when he saw her reaction. "What do you want to do? Should we observe them first and let them become the first to taste our trap?"

Now Medeia was starting to wonder, who was the real demon? Him or her?

She pretended to cough to shake off her random thoughts. "Let’s observe them first. I want to know what kind of people they are. But... I hope they’re really bad guys."

Because she really wanted to feast on some human souls tonight.
