Chapter 130: Excruciating Pain (2) fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

She immediately spread her wings, then flapped them as hard as she could, trying to lift them off the ground and avoid crashing. The pain was unbearable, and she couldn’t help but scream out in agony.

Her breath became erratic, and beads of sweat formed on her forehead.

Maybe it was her scream that finally caused Lucian to open his eyes. He looked around in confusion, moving his head from side to side, not understanding why he was suddenly in the middle of nowhere.

When he tilted his head upward, his eyes landed on Medeia, who was in a terrible state, struggling to flap her wings.

Wings?

Lucian opened his eyes widely. "Medeia, you—"

Medeia cut him off, unable to bear the pain any longer. "Lucian, help ..." Her voice was filled with desperation and pain, that it made Lucian snap out of his daze.

As soon as she spoke, she stopped moving her wings, letting both of them fall toward the ground. But just before they hit, Lucian used his ability to slow their descent.

Medeia collapsed against him, gripping his shirt tightly to ease the sharp pain in her back.

"Medeia, what’s wrong? Are you hurt?" Lucian could feel her trembling with pain. His gaze shifted to the wings on her back. "The wings ... are they causing you pain?"

Lucian reached out, intending to touch them, but he quickly pulled his hand back when Medeia shouted, "Don’t touch them!"

Not wanting him to feel bad, she quickly explained, "They hurt so much, and I think the pain will only get worse if someone touches them."

"I’m sorry!" Lucian asked, "What can I do to help you?"

"Nothing." Medeia took a deep breath and buried her face in his chest. "Just stay like this for a while."

After securing her position, she shouted at the system, "Remove them now!"

[Are you sure, Host? The wings might help you get out of here.]

"Are you fucking stupid? The space is too narrow! My wings won’t be able to move freely! Just get rid of them already!"

[Foul language detected! Penalty: -20 C-Points.]

Medeia didn’t care about the system’s penalties, nor did she care if Lucian thought she was insane for talking to herself.

She just wanted the damn wings gone—immediately!

"Lucian is here," she whispered. "So, it’s alright."

As long as she was with Lucian, there was nothing to worry about.

Lucian, on the other hand, looked confused, but he held himself back from asking questions since Medeia was in bad shape.

[Deactivated Physical Trait: Wings.]

The wings slowly retracted into her back. It wasn’t as painful as when they first emerged from her back, but it still hurt like hell.

Lucian wrapped his arms around her head, gently stroking her hair as if trying to comfort her.

As soon as the wings disappeared, Medeia let out a long sigh and pulled herself closer to Lucian. Her breathing was still ragged, and she couldn’t even lift her head.

When her mind became clearer, the first thing she said was, "Lucian, are you okay?" Her voice was barely above a whisper, but Lucian could hear it perfectly.

"How can you still ask me that? You’re the one who looks injured." Lucian’s eyes moved to her back. The wings had torn through her jacket and clothes, leaving her back exposed.

A few moments ago, Medeia had been in unbearable pain, so Lucian assumed the wings must have left wounds. But to his surprise, there was nothing, no visible injury at all.

"No, I’m not injured," Medeia said, trying her best to sit up. Lucian immediately helped her. "It’s just ... the wings. They had to tear through my back to come out."

"I didn’t know you could do that. Since when have you had wings?" Lucian immediately continued, "Is it alright if I ask?"

"It’s okay." Medeia took a deep breath before straightening her back. "I’ll explain everything to you now."

The system had told her that she could reveal its existence to Lucian, as long as it sounded epic and not boring.

And what could be more epic than saving him from falling by using her wings?

Aside from the unbearable pain, Medeia had deliberately spoken to the system out loud to spark Lucian’s curiosity.

"Lucian," Medeia placed her hands on his shoulders. "Do you think a normal person could suddenly gain immense power in such a short time?"

"The wings, the horns, the abilities that appeared out of nowhere, and the fact that General Orlon’s ability had no effect on me. Do you think any of that is normal?"

Lucian looked confused but tried to follow her train of thought. "I... don’t think so."

"Exactly! Of course, it’s not normal," Medeia said, "But let me tell you something, I’m indeed not a normal person."

"I received help from a supernatural being. That being has helped me become stronger, but in exchange, I have to complete the tasks it gives me."

Since they were stuck in the middle of nowhere, Medeia didn’t have the time to explain the system in full detail. That’s why, for now, she chose to refer to it as a supernatural being. She could explain the rest later.

"Is that the thing you’ve been talking to all this time?" Lucian asked.

"All this time?" Medeia furrowed her brows. "You knew I’ve been talking to something?"

"Sometimes, you look like you’re deep in thought, but your expression makes it seem like you’re having a conversation with someone inside your head." Lucian averted his gaze, and lowered his voice. "I thought you had ... a split personality."

Medeia immediately dismissed the possibility that Lucian had any real knowledge about the system.

He basically just thought she was insane!

But then, why did he still love her? Did he have a thing for crazy women or something?!

"Don’t get me wrong, but sometimes the villagers say you were a bit different back then ..." Lucian trailed off when he saw Medeia’s expression darken.

"No, I don’t think you’re crazy! I just thought that maybe ... maybe something went wrong with your brain because you failed to become the Lost."

Maybe the brain damage made your mind a bit more unusual than other people, so—"

Medeia cut him off before he could ramble any further. "Lucian, honey, please, just stop."
