Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 42: Cheap Labor
The light-yellow powder was wrapped in a large, clean leaf. It gave off a faint herbal scent, and a small, smoothly polished wooden board was placed inside.
Shi Lin used the small wooden board to scoop up the medicinal powder and sprinkle it evenly over the still-bleeding wound. The freshly applied powder was immediately washed away by the flowing blood, and the expressions of all the Beastmen grew solemn.
Though Shi Lin’s expression tightened, he persisted, repeatedly scooping up the powder and applying it. Gradually, the light-yellow powder managed to hold its ground around the injury, and the wound finally stopped bleeding.
The Beastmen cried out in astonishment, cheering and hugging one another.
After leaving a portion of the medicinal powder for Uncle Dashi, the other more seriously injured Beastmen also received the luxury of having the medicine applied.
Their gazes toward Shi Lin and the medicinal powder were filled with gratitude. This was a truly life-saving herbal medicine.
At the same time, their hearts were filled with gratitude for the young female who had given the herbal medicine to Shi Lin.
Meanwhile, Wu Yue, who had just finished preparing her dried bitter greens, was feeling depressed.
’The System actually bought the dried bitter greens—the fruit of my hard labor—for a pittance! How can I stand for this?’
"Damn System, you’d better explain yourself! These dried bitter greens cost me favors, my firewood, and my sunlight! They’re all-natural and pollution-free, so don’t they deserve a high price?
One point per pound? Don’t you think that’s a bit of a lowball?"
Wu Yue growled in discontent.
The System sounded smug, as if it had just crossed its legs. "Allow me to spell it out for you. Did you go get the embers yourself? Nope!
Did you chop the firewood yourself? Nope!
Did you create the sun? Of course not!
Did you gather the bitter greens yourself? For the most part, no!
So, other than your own cheap labor, you had zero overhead. Is one point really too little? Don’t be ungrateful."
’So I’m just cheap labor, huh.’
Staring at the pitiful fifty-odd points on her status panel, Wu Yue’s heart sank.
"Yue, are you in there?" Qingcao’s voice from outside the cave pulled Wu Yue from her dejection.
’Damn System, you just wait,’ she thought. ’This isn’t over. I’ll be back to settle the score with you.’
With that, she stood up and walked out of the cave.
"Yue, the pit you wanted is all dug! My sister sent me to get you so you can come take a look," Qingcao said, her voice full of excitement.
The two of them arrived at the spot Wu Yue had chosen for her new home. Where the ground had once been flat, there was now a pit as deep as a Beastman was tall.
An earthen wall rose from the edges of the pit, slightly shorter than the surrounding thatched huts, except for a higher section in the middle.
A group of chattering young cubs had gathered to watch, making for a lively scene.
Only two of Qinghua’s mates were working on the house today; the other had gone out to hunt for the day’s food. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
The inner walls of the pit had been made very smooth and were evenly plastered with a layer of white mud.
’When I used to scroll through videos, I always saw people in Vietnam building houses in the wild. For waterproofing, they’d mix crushed termite nests with plant ash and plaster it on the walls.’
’So, see? Mindlessly scrolling through videos can be useful, right? The knowledge came in handy as soon as I transmigrated.’
The System sneered, "Host, may I ask what similarities the termite nest *you* found shares with the ones you saw in those videos?"
Wu Yue said awkwardly, "System, please stop raining on my parade every time I feel proud of myself. You’re going to make me depressed."
The System scoffed, "The whole world could fall into depression before you do, Host. You’re a true marvel in the art of hyping yourself up."
’Goddamn System. I really wish I could just block it.’
