Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 163: Risk
Wu Yue looked at the Beastman beside her, pleasantly surprised. "Teng Qian, don’t tell me you ate garlic?"
Teng Qian scratched his head, looking embarrassed. "I guess so. I just saw an animal eating it, so I grabbed some to try. Who knew this stuff would be so potent?"
He finished, covering his mouth with a pained expression.
Wu Yue stared speechlessly at the tall, strapping Beastman beside her. "You won’t even pass up an animal’s food..."
To her surprise, Teng Qian proudly jutted out his chin. "Of course. I don’t even let the beasts get away, let alone their food."
Wu Yue: "..."
’You make such a good point, I’m speechless.’
She stood up with a look of disdain. "Next time you go hunting, bring some of this plant back for me."
With that, she turned to walk out. "I’m going to go brew my herbs. I feel like spending too much time with you will turn me into an idiot."
Teng Qian trotted eagerly after her. "I still remember the place. Bringing some back for you will be no problem.
But you have to tell me what ’idiot’ means. Is it a compliment?"
Wu Yue nodded, a smile in her eyes. "Mhm. It means you’re very powerful, you drool, talk nonsense, and poop on your Beast Skins."
Teng Qian: "..."
’This female must really think I’m a fool. She’s describing an imbecile, isn’t she? The kind that can’t even take care of themselves.’
’Sure enough, hanging around our General has corrupted her.’
’Our General must be the one who told her about creatures like ’imbeciles’.’
"Teng Qian, you have too much time on your hands? Bothering Yue while she’s making medicine!"
The familiar voice came from behind, and Teng Qian instantly tensed up.
Grumbling about the General behind his back was one thing, but he’d been disciplined by him far too often these past two days, leaving an indelible scar on his young psyche.
So, when Wu Yue looked over, she saw the Beastman—who just moments ago had been insufferably smug—scampering away with a fawning grin.
From the back, he looked for all the world like he was being chased by a dog.
Yuan Lang sat down beside Wu Yue. "Father and the others just discussed it," he said softly. "Once the injured members of the tribe are a little better, we’ll head back. The Beast Crystals we got from this hunt are enough for us to advance in Rank."
Wu Yue nodded. "I’m fine with that. But about this advancement you mentioned..."
She looked at the powerfully built Beastman beside her. "Do all your future advancements require you to come to the deep forest and hunt Fierce Beasts?"
Yuan Lang looked out of the canyon and nodded. "Yes. For any advancement above Silver Rank, you must have the aid of a Fierce Beast Core. The higher the Rank you’re advancing to, the higher the level of the Fierce Beast Crystal Core you need."
"You also need witch medicine to calm the violent energy. If you just consume the Fierce Beast Core by itself, it’s very easy for your body to explode during the advancement, killing you."
Wu Yue was taken aback. She never imagined that the Beastmen’s cultivation was so dangerous.
"So you won’t explode if you have the help of witch medicine?"
Yuan Lang looked at Wu Yue with his deep eyes and chuckled. "That’s not guaranteed. The path to power is never easy. The more profound a witch’s witch power, the more effective the witch medicine they can brew."
"But even after taking witch medicine, there’s still a certain amount of risk during advancement.
You have to understand, a good number of Beastmen die every year during their advancement."
Wu Yue fell silent. ’In that case,’ she thought, ’cultivating witch power might be tedious, but at least it’s safe. There’s no mortal danger, at least.’
"Host, you’d be wrong to think that."
The System’s voice echoed in Wu Yue’s mind, tinged with a newfound gravity.
