Chapter 118: DRAMA WAS JUST GETTING STARTED

Mo Ying rode into the Mo residence with Lin Xu sitting in front of him, his arm loosely around her waist as the horse came to a stop in the middle of the courtyard. Every head turned at once. The guards, the servants, even the maids holding trays froze in place. Whispering filled the air like a low buzz.

Behind them, the second carriage rolled in, carrying Yan Mei and the children. Fu Han had already jumped down, helping them out one by one. The triplets looked around with wide, curious eyes, clinging to Yan Mei’s hands.

At the front of the crowd, Grandma Mo sat quietly, her wrinkled face calm but her sharp eyes taking in everything. Beside her stood Madam Mo, her expression stiff, and Uncle Mo, who tried to keep his face blank. Mo Lan, however, couldn’t hide the huge grin spreading across her face.

"Mo Ying?" Grandma Mo’s voice finally broke the silence. "You are back and who is this woman you’ve brought with you?"

Before Mo Ying could answer, a cold, clear voice came from the side.

"So you did come back."

Everyone turned. Chu Ming walked out from the main hall, her red and gold robe shining under the sunlight. Her face was beautiful, but her eyes were sharp with anger. Her fan snapped open with a flick of her wrist as she slowly made her way toward them.

"General Mo," she said, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "I waited for your grand welcome all morning, yet you didn’t appear. Now I see why... you were too busy bringing another woman into your home."

Gasps went through the servants. Even Mo Lan’s smile froze slightly before turning into a smirk.

Lin Xu stiffened in Mo Ying’s hold, her hands tightening at her sides.

Chu Ming stopped in front of the horse, glaring up at him. "You humiliated me in front of everyone, and now you bring this woman through the main gate? What does that mean, General?"

Mo Ying looked down at her, his face calm, his eyes cold. "It means exactly what it looks like," he said evenly. "This woman Lin Xu is mine."

A shocked silence fell. Even Grandma Mo’s fingers trembled slightly on her cane.

Mo Ying then added, his voice steady but strong, "She will soon be my fourth wife. And those children—" he nodded toward the triplets standing with Yan Mei— "they are my children."

The courtyard erupted in whispers.

"What? The General has children?"

"Fourth wife? When did this happen?"

"Did the Emperor approve this too?"

Mo Ting leaned close to his younger brother Mo Zen and whispered, "Fourth wife? He sure didn’t waste time."

Mo Zen smirked slightly. "I’m just wondering how many more he plans to bring home."

At the same time, Madam Mo and Uncle Mo exchanged quick glances, obviously not happy about what was occurring.

Lin Xu blinked in disbelief, turning to look at Mo Ying sharply. "What did you just say?" she hissed under her breath.

He ignored her glare, still watching the crowd. Lin Xu pinched his side hard. He flinched slightly but didn’t move.

"Are you insane?" she whispered furiously. "You can’t just say that! We had a deal.. you only help if you can stop the pavilion. I’m not your wife until then!"

Mo Ying’s lips curved faintly, but he didn’t reply.

Meanwhile, Mo Lan couldn’t keep her mouth shut any longer. She stepped forward, feigning an innocent smile as she turned toward San Na, who had been standing quietly beside Madam Mo.

"Sister-in-law," Mo Lan said loudly, her tone full of fake concern, "you haven’t said anything yet. What do you think about this new wife our dear brother has brought home?"

All eyes immediately shifted to San Na.

San Na stood still, her hands folded neatly in front of her. Her face showed no emotion, no anger, no surprise, nothing. But deep in her eyes was something unreadable, like she was holding back a storm.

Lin Xu’s gaze flicked toward her, unsure what to expect. The last time she saw her she was much thinner; now she looked healthier and put together three years of endless wealth can do that.

Mo Ying looked at San Na too, waiting. His arm rested lightly around Lin Xu’s waist, though his attention was now split between the two women.

San Na finally spoke, her tone calm and steady. "Since she is the woman chosen by my husband," she said slowly, her eyes still on Mo Ying, "then I have no reason not to accept her. I welcome her into our household."

Her words were polite, but there was something in them that made everyone hold their breath.

Lin Xu felt a strange mix of guilt and discomfort as she met San Na’s eyes. But Mo Ying’s gaze was only on her, his expression unreadable. Lin Xu turned to him and whispered sharply, "Stop looking at me like that."

Before anyone could speak again, Mo Ying broke the tension. "Mo An," he called out suddenly.

Mo An, his younger sister, stepped forward quickly and bowed. "Yes, brother?"

"Take a few maids and lead Lin Xu and the children to the quarters I prepared earlier," Mo Ying said firmly.

Mo An blinked, then looked toward her grandmother, who gave a small nod, then to San Na, who remained silent. Finally, Mo An turned back and said softly, "Yes, brother."

She walked over to Lin Xu and the children, smiling kindly. "Come with me," she said gently.

Lin Xu hesitated, glancing once more at Mo Ying. He met her eyes and gave her a small nod, half teasing, half serious.

With a quiet sigh, she finally followed Mo An, the children trailing behind her.

The crowd slowly parted as they walked through, everyone whispering and bowing as she passed.

San Na’s voice was calm but firm. "Escort Lady Chu Ming to the residence prepared for her," she said to one of the maids. "She’ll stay beside my courtyard."

The maid bowed right away. "Yes, Madam."

Chu Ming’s face darkened. "There’s no need," she said coldly. "I can find my way myself."

San Na only smiled faintly, her tone even. "As you wish."

Everyone could feel the tension in the air. Chu Ming turned sharply and walked away, her steps quick and stiff. The maids followed behind her quietly, not daring to make a sound.

The courtyard grew quiet again.

Then Uncle Mo stepped forward, his brows furrowed and his voice sharp. "Mo Ying, what do you think you’re doing?" he snapped. "Bringing another woman into this house without warning the elders first? And children too? Have you no respect for family rules?"

Mo Ying turned to him slowly, his eyes cold. "Uncle, this is my household too," he said flatly. "I don’t need anyone’s permission to bring home the people I care about."

Uncle Mo’s face turned red. "Care about? You’re a general, not some street man who collects women! You’ve already brought enough trouble to this family!"

Mo Ying smirked slightly, his tone growing sharper. "Then perhaps the family should stop meddling in things that aren’t their concern."

"You—!" Uncle Mo pointed at him, his hand trembling with anger. "You’ve grown too bold!"

"Too bold? It seems uncle must have forgotten who the owner of this house is. I can bring whoever I want whenever I want. Your opinion is the absolute least of my concerns," Mo Ying voiced out, staring at him with cold, unwavering eyes.

Uncle Mo’s eyes had turned red with anger. Before he could say more, Grandma Mo’s cane struck the ground lightly. "Enough," she said in a low, steady voice.

Everyone went silent immediately.

She looked at Mo Ying for a long moment before sighing. "You bring storms with you every time you return, Ying’er. But if this is your choice, then you’ll live with it."

Mo Ying bowed his head slightly. "Yes, Grandmother."

Grandma Mo turned and left slowly with her servants, her face unreadable.

The rest of the family began to move away too, but San Na stayed where she was, standing tall and calm. Her expression didn’t change, even when Mo Ying’s eyes met hers.

"You didn’t even look at Chu Ming once," she said quietly.

"She doesn’t matter anymore," Mo Ying replied coldly.

San Na’s lips curved faintly, though her eyes stayed calm. "Then I hope this new woman won’t end up the same way."

"Make sure she is settled in. I want no one, I mean no one hands over her. She is very important to me. I would kill anyone who dares to touch her... I hope as the main wife you make sure no trouble occurs within this household."

Mo Ying said, his eyes cold and distant.

"As you wish, General."

She turned and walked away, her steps graceful but firm.

Mo Ying stood there for a while, his eyes drifting toward the direction Lin Xu had gone. His lips twitched slightly, but his voice was quiet when he muttered,

"Five days, Lin Xu... let’s see who gives in first."
