Chapter 253: Defense of Lown Peak

“That is Lown Peak, Your Majesty.”

Lown Peak was the highest peak within Khalodian Mountain. The harsh landform contained permanent snow, even throughout the summers.

“Wow, look how many we have.”

“This would be a good place to defend.”

Joonbum spoke, nodding to Jinpok’s comment. There were countless soldiers and tents stationed in the area, but the problem was the giant monsters that took much more than mere spears and arrows.

“Yes, Your Majesty. Anyone who enters this region cannot simply walk out of this place in one piece. The highest peaks near Lown surround this valley and we will trap them.”

People turned to the voice and a young man walked out of the tent. Joonbum looked at him curiously and spoke his name.

“Jorge Duvall?”

“Your Majesty.”

Everyone was surprised. Jorge Duvall was a promising young genius who was gaining fame within the Khalodian Empire Army.

“Oh, is that Field Marshall Jorge Duvall?”

“Isn’t he too young?”

“He was chosen out of the thousands of other competition.”

People seemed to be astonished at the famed man himself.

“It’s been a while.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“Shall we hear what you have to say, then?”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Jorge then looked around and began to explain.

“This is a natural fortress. Nothing is better than this place. We will utilize this place and keep the peace of the continent no matter the cost. If we let those monsters break through our defense line here, our world is doomed. There will be nowhere else for us to defend. If we have to bring our fight back to the capital, the consequences will be dire.”

Jorge spoke to everyone. He paused for a second for people to follow and continued.

“First of all, we will be using various poisons to conserve our new weapons and firepowder.”

“Oh!”

“Poison?”

“Will it work?”

People gasped and looked at Jorge.

“We will be using the Bering Poison and Zyelok Poison.”

These were the most famous poisons throughout the entire continent. They were also widely used as an assassination method.

“Our weapons research team tested the poison on the monsters and found them to be effective enough to be put into use. It takes time for the poison to affect those large monsters, but our team is working hard to improve their potential at the moment.”

He then continued onto the next topic.

“Next is cannon production. We will be supplied with 300 more cannons next week, and will be receiving the same amount of cannons on a weekly basis starting with that. We will also be receiving enough war supplies along with that. There will be no shortage there.”

A tremendous amount of supplies had gone into this war. The number of enemies walking through the Gate was too much to dare try to conserve any supplies or weapons. People were concerned that their supplies would run thin at this rate, but their concerns were instantly resolved.

“Hmph. But it doesn’t mean we don’t have to save it. The empire has opened its all storage and all citizens are working hard to provide the supplies. Do not forget that what we are using is provided upon the work of the entire empire itself.”

Everyone nodded. Yet before Jorge could speak again, the sound of a horn came from afar.

“It’s coming again.”

Joonbum quickly moved up to the high wall that was built to block off part of the valley. As he and others went to the top, monsters started rushing in through the valley in countless numbers.

“It’s too much.”

Monsters screamed as they began charging at the wall. Within them were familiar monsters that usually appeared in computer games on Earth. There were also monsters with dog tags, proving that these were transformed versions of human pets.

“Jorge, how is the experiment going?”

Jorge replied, “We are implementing various tests and focusing on possible plague as you mentioned, Your Majesty. As of now, we have found no evidence that it was transferred by the air, skin contact, or blood.”

“I see.”

This was what Joonbum feared most. If these monsters had a disease that could spread easily, that would mean another disaster.

“It will take time. The plague might happen later, so make sure you control and quarantine the laboratory.”

“Yes, Your Majesty. The area is located on a small island off the coast and is prepared for the worst.”

Joonbum nodded. He meant that there were bombs ready to blow the entire place up if needed.

‘So, there’s no danger of it spreading for now.’

“Reload!!”

“Prepare the cannons!”

Soldiers began to prepare for the fight. Soon, the cannon fire sound filled the entire valley.
