Surrender To Us, Our Luna (One Luna, Four Alphas)-Chapter 549-Ride Or Die Queen
Ian:
I had taken Clementine to the rooftop. I knew it could be dangerous, but it was Clementine and me together.
There was not a single monster that could overpower us. I guess we just wanted to experience something beyond the loss, something that would cause us more fear than remembering our child.
I had brought a mattress up, and we were lying in the cold air, staring at the sky. She was in my arms. We were fully clothed. We just wanted to be together with no other intentions for the night.
"I have missed you so much," I said, taking a slow, deep breath.
She cuddled closer, making me hug her even tighter.
"I have missed you too," she replied in a broken tone.
"You know, when you were gone, I thought about everything we had. Just the thought of living without you was so scary for me," I confessed, holding her fragile hands, her slender fingers tangled between mine.
The feeling of her hands in mine was something I had dreaded losing if she were ever gone. Having her here with me made me feel complete.
Clementine took a deep breath and raised her face from my chest, resting her chin on the back of her hand.
"Please don’t be upset over the child’s loss. We will have plenty of time to conceive," she said.
The way she said it made me smile. I leaned down and kissed her forehead.
"I know we will. And trust me, I will be with you every step of the way. I’m never leaving you alone to face anything by yourself again. And you should do the same for me," I told her, reminding her that it was better for both of us to face trouble together, because being without her was unbearable.
"I will, don’t worry," she replied with a soft laugh, but I noticed her smile starting to fade.
She then sat up straight on the mattress, staring ahead at the sky. I joined her, hugging her from behind and wrapping my arms around her, my legs around her body as she fit perfectly against me.
"What are we going to do now? Do you think your father will be able to shut down the academy?" Clementine asked.
From behind, I could feel her heart beating steadily.
"He will. I’m pretty sure he will be more determined than ever to do it now," I said with confidence.
"There’s something I want to tell you," I continued, because I wanted her to know what my father did and why he did it.
I did not want her to see my father as a bad man when he was a monster trying to suppress his worst side to do the right thing. That was not easy.
Clementine broke the embrace and turned to face me, holding my hands.
"Say it. What is it?" she asked.
That was the thing about her. She probably noticed I was agitated and wanted to comfort me by looking straight at me, letting me know she would not judge whatever I told her.
"You know when I told you that my mother was injected while she was pregnant, and that my father and his brother had the same situation as me and my brother?" I reminded her.
She nodded, her eyebrows pulling together to show she remembered, though she looked slightly confused about why I was bringing it up again.
"Well," I paused, taking a deep breath before I continued, "it seems like my grandfather wanted to kill the bad one, so he committed murder."
I paused again, watching her narrow her eyes at me, waiting for what I would say next.
"It seems he killed the good one instead."
As soon as I finished, Clementine’s eyes widened, and her grip on my hands tightened.
"Your father?" she asked and I nodded.
"So he’s like Zian?" she confirmed.
I nodded once more.
"How did he manage to not be so..." She paused, searching for the right word.
"Monster-like?" I offered.
She bit her tongue, probably not wanting to upset me by using such a word for my family or me.
"That is the thing. He fought hard to do the right thing. So I was wondering if I could help Zian do the same," I uttered with hopes.
As soon as I finished, Clementine smiled at me.
"Did I ever tell you that you have the kindest heart ever?" she asked.
That was her way of telling me that she was on board with the idea.
"I just wanted to ask you first because I did not want you to feel like I was showing mercy to the guy who hurt you so much in the past," I explained, staring into her beautiful eyes while she cupped my face in her gentle hands.
"No, it’s not their fault, to be honest. They were made this way by the people around them," she said.
There could be no one like her.
"Well, for that, we have to leave this place first," I commented, looking around.
I realized Clementine finally understood what I was suggesting.
"Hmm."
Previously, it had been decided that all of us would stay here. When we poured the liquid outside the academy, we would step back and remain in the North as it disappeared off the map for a while until it returned.
But now I was second-guessing that decision. I wanted to stay and help everyone, but I had more work to do outside.
Besides, if all of us stayed here, who would convince the leaders to help my father?
"Actually, you’re right. I was thinking the same thing after everything Mariana and Fauna told them. After what Troy’s stepmother and Messi did, I think some of us need to be out there because it is wrong. We cannot let them win like that and wander around free," Clementine said.
Thankfully, she was on board.
That was when I pulled her close and hugged her tightly.
