Chapter 398: Thumping of Your Heart

There was silence, and Rain felt the need to continue, "I felt like everything crumbled when Alexander fell into a coma. There was this strong emotion inside me saying I couldn’t live without him... It was really hard, but I kept thinking about positive things, like how he would wake up soon."

She chuckled and added, "I even got to the point of threatening him while talking to his unconscious state." Then she turned to him and said, "You have to stay strong for her, Sir. Let her know that you’re always waiting for her return, so she must not give up and leave you to grow old alone."

Rain didn’t know if she was good at comforting people, but at that moment, she wanted to give Mr. Arlan the support he needed. So she added, "As long as there’s breath left in Mrs. Summer, there’s always hope. Keep praying for her because prayer is something we can hold on to during times when we feel powerless.

"There’s someone more powerful who can make miracles happen... the Creator of everything, of this universe. Through earnest prayer to Him, anything is possible. Just have a strong faith." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Arlan gave her a faint smile as he whispered, "Thank you, Rain. I feel much better."

She nodded and remarked, "If I can do it, then I’m sure you will." It was like a challenge, too.

"Thank you, Rain. I really appreciate it. I can’t remember the last time I smiled since Summer fell into a coma," he said with a sigh.

Then Rain’s mobile phone rang, it was Alexander. She quickly answered, "I’m just around with Mr. Arlan. I’ll be back now."

She stood up and smiled at Mr. Cartier, cheering, "Keep fighting, Sir, and stay strong. You can do it! Remember, if I can, then you must keep your ground and stay strong. Don’t let this woman beat you in this!"

Mr. Arlan let out a soft chuckle and said, "Go now, Rain, or Alexander will get worried."

With that, Rain gave him a curt nod before leaving to return to Alexander.

She smiled, noticing how crumpled Alexander’s face looked as she approached. She quickly grabbed his available hand, intertwining her fingers with his as she said, "Let’s head back now. Sorry if I worried you, my dear husband."

He released a heavy sigh and said, "Please, next time tell me first. You make me so worried. I just left you sitting there, and the next thing I know, you’re gone."

Rain hugged his arm and nudged her cheek against it, saying, "I’m really sorry. I don’t know what came over me. When I saw the familiar silhouette of Mr. Cartier passing by... he didn’t look so good with those slumped shoulders. He had this expression, like he’s losing his way, completely out of himself..." she explained.

Alexander didn’t comment as they continued walking to the exit where the car was already waiting. Once they were inside the car, Rain continued, "I’ve been there, and to be honest... having someone by your side at your lowest point helps. So, I thought maybe I could give him some comfort, even if it’s just with my words."

"We haven’t been able to visit Aunt Summer either. Alright, you did good," Alexander said. "But please, next time, don’t disappear like that on me. I don’t like the feeling of my heart about to burst as I look around for you, filled with worry."

"I won’t, so stop worrying," she reassured him, resting her head on his shoulder.

Alexander took a deep breath and sighed. Meanwhile, Rain yawned.

"Sleep if you’re sleepy. Come here," Alexander murmured as he moved, gently grabbing her and cradling her in his arms again.

Rain snuggled against his chest, savoring his scent and the warmth that engulfed her as she closed her eyes. "I love you, Alexander. I’m really grateful you came back to me. It doesn’t matter that you still don’t remember me, as long as you still find your way back to me..." she murmured, close to dozing off.

"I love you too, Rain, and I’m glad you’re always there, waiting for my return," he murmured. She smiled as she felt him gently kiss her head.

Back at Lancaster Mansion, as the couple left for their flight to Palan Island, Rock and the rest indeed had a feast, inviting all the servants and staff at the mansion to celebrate with them.

"Ah, I can’t believe I can’t drink to celebrate," Rock complained, swirling the fresh apple juice Vernice had handed him.

"Well, just watch me drink since I’ll drink for you!" Vernice announced before pouring herself another glass of wine and downing it.

Rock shook his head, resigning himself to fresh juice while everyone else enjoyed alcoholic drinks.

Ben and Vernice were on fire, even singing a duet together. Soon, Vernice pulled Rock up to dance with her to a lively tune being played. Rock found himself truly enjoying the atmosphere, hearing laughter and congratulations directed at him from all corners.

As they settled back in their seats, Rock was practically panting. "Tell them to change the music to a slow one," he instructed.

Vernice took another glass of wine, downed it in one go, and then poured herself another before turning to him and teasing, "You want a slow one so we can dance closer to each other, right?"

He blinked rapidly in disbelief at her shamelessness as she stood up again, extending her hand with a playful bow. "Can I have this dance, milord?"

"What the heck, Vernice? Aren’t you losing energy from being this hyper tonight?" he asked, shaking his head.

Vernice only winked at him and dramatically mimed pulling an imaginary rope to drag him to the dance floor.

Shrugging, Rock stood up and let her lead him back to the dancing area. As the slow music played, they swayed together.

She grabbed his hands, pulled him closer, and gestured for him to wrap his arms around her waist. He complied, and she comfortably draped her arms around his neck, resting her head on his chest as they moved in sync with the gentle rhythm.

"Rock, I can clearly hear the erratic and loud thumping of your heart," Vernice muttered.
