Chapter 218: Familiar Scent

In one of the numerous metros, a small crowd had gathered around Michael’s crew.

"What are they doing?" π’‡π’“π’†π’†π™¬π’†π’ƒπ“·π’π“Ώπ™šπ™‘.π’„π“Έπ’Ž

"Not sure. There were rumors about soldiers inspecting metros for unknown reasons, but I didn’t know it was true until today."

By now several Earth days had passed with the squad searching for any hidden tunnels with no success. At least the process was relatively simple. Robert would sit on a bench with crossed legs and closed eyes as he focused on his senses, searching for any hollow tunnels.

Michael and the crew, meanwhile, would stay around him and wait if he spotted something.

Normally, such actions wouldn’t attract the attention of ordinary bypassers. But because of their cultivation realms, they looked stunning beyond belief, causing many to pause and stare in awe.

Also, the fact that Cyberfang was with them didn’t help them keep a low profile.

"This feels kind of nice." Enzo exclaimed with a smile. Being stared at like a celebrity stroked his ego well.

"Believe me, the last person they would stare at is you." Amelia teased. Her words, though hurtful, were true. Most of the female attention was hoarded by Robert due to his Lord status and Michael, who had a mysterious charm to him.

Soon enough Robert sighed, his eyes creeping open.

"Let me guess, nothing again?" Richard mumbled clearly over the whole process.

In response, Robert smiled. "Actually, I felt something hollow."

"!!!"

In a timely manner the squad followed Robert’s directions, stopping before one of the walls of the metro.

"Are you certain it’s beyond here?" Victoria asked. Even by placing her ear against the cold surface of the wall, she was unable to sense anything.

"I am." Robert shrugged nonchalantly.

With a simple nod, Michael summoned Devil’s Tongue, catching the Lord by surprise since he had yet to disclose he possessed a soul weapon.

’Finally you call on me, brat!’ Devil’s Tongue remarked. ’What are we slaying today?’

Michael chuckled in amusement.

’A wall.’

Without waiting for an answer, his hand blurred, carving a large hole in the wall.

Boom!

For a second the crowd froze by the sheer might of his attack.

Before the place could descend into chaos, a few of the guards went towards the source.

"You dare cause disturbance on Magmorious’ lands?! Freezeβ€”"

Before they could utter another word, they halted, noticing the aura Michael’s crew was emitting. What spooked them even more was the charming smile Robert wore on his face.

"Lβ€”Lord Robert! Forgive us for our ignorance!" Instantly the guards saluted. After all, every soldier stationed in the capital knew who the Lords were.

"It’s fine." Robert waved his hand. "We are doing a bit of investigation... So I would advise you to clear the place out of any civilians. We don’t know what might come spilling out from the other side after all."

"Cβ€”Certainly!" The guards sprang into action, redistributing any passengers to other metros, unwilling to disturb the investigation.

Everyone in the crew began clearing a path toward the hollow space Robert had discovered.

At last, a blinding light came from the outer side.

"Well, well! Finally a lead!" Richard laughed wholeheartedly. "To be honest, I was beginning to doubt your capabilities."

Not taking offense, Robert smiled charmingly. "You have yet to see what I am truly capable of."

Taking a brief glance at Michael’s soul weapon, the man added.

"And you too seem to harbor a few secrets of your own."

With a simple nod, Michael rested the sword on his left shoulder.

"Before we proceed further, I want your word that you will not discuss what will happen beyond this point."

Robert remained unfazed. "Of course, this feeling is mutual."

Not sensing hidden intent, Michael glanced at Ruby.

"It’s fine."

"..."

Ruby lingered for a few seconds before gently taking off her hood, revealing her feline features.

"Oh my..." Robert was utterly flabbergasted. He had suspected something was unusual about Ruby for quite some time, but he never imagined she was a hybrid of human and cat.

"Hello, I am Ruby. Sorry for not introducing myself earlier." Her ears pricked upwards, her tail swinging from side to side.

"I just want to limit the number of people who know what I really look like." She admitted, glancing down at the floor, her voice barely above a whisper.

In truth she had been anxious all this time, wondering if the Lord was going to label her a freak.

Picking up on Ruby’s unease, Ava glanced at Robert not so discreetly.

"So what do you think about her?"

"To be honest..." The man hesitated for a few seconds, his mind going blank.

"I am more of a dog person."

"..."

"HAHAHA!" The silence that had begun to stretch was suddenly shattered by the shared laughter of Richard and Devil’s Tongue, though the latter could only be heard by Michael.

"You dense motherfuβ€”" Ava gritted her teeth as Ruby’s ears flattened in dejection.

"Iβ€”I didn’t mean it in an offensive way!" Robert apologized, his face blushing red.

"Mβ€”My brain just short-circuited, and I said the first thing that came to mind!"

Victoria heaved a sigh. "I can see why he prefers others take the leading role. If this is his thinking process, he would have died a long time ago..."

After Robert managed to make peace with Ruby, they began to explore the large tunnel.

Like before, the place looked newly constructed, so precise that it seemed impossible for human hands to have made it.

At a certain point Ruby’s nose twitched gently.

"This smell..." She uttered, her eyes narrowing like needles. "It’s familiar."

Michael raised an eyebrow.

’Familiar? Does that mean she had passed through here before? Just how long had she been wandering these tunnels alone?’ He wondered.

"Since your sense of smell is far superior to ours, it makes sense for you to lead the way." Michael exclaimed.

With an eager nod, Ruby didn’t hesitate, dashing into a sprint.

Thanks to her realm, she reached a speed she had never achieved before, her heart racing with anticipation for what she was about to witness.

"Brothers, sisters... Wait for me just a while longer! Ruby is coming back and bringing help!"
