Chapter 482: Did Umbra receive a dimensional upgrade?

The dimensional portal opened silently in the air above the enormous bed in the room, its dark surface rippling like a lake of living ink as golden filaments of Yggdrasil energy raced along the unstable edges of the opening. For a brief moment, space seemed to hold its breath, as if reality itself were trying to decide whether it should exist there. Then gravity resolved the problem.

Umbra fell.

She emerged from the portal like a stone hurled from an absurd height, her body traversing the dark surface of the dimensional passage before plummeting directly onto the enormous king-size mattress. The impact was heavy enough to cause the mattress to sink deeply and the covers to scatter in all directions.

Unfortunately, she didn’t fall into empty space.

Kael and Inari were fast asleep in the center of the bed when it happened.

The result was immediate.

Umbra literally fell on top of them both.

The impact elicited a muffled sound of surprise from Kael as the unexpected weight fell upon his torso, pushing all the air from his lungs at once. Inari also woke instantly, her eyes snapping open in shock as the mattress sank beneath the three bodies.

The portal above the bed closed a few seconds later with a small snap of energy, vanishing as if it had never existed.

For a few seconds, there was only utter confusion.

Kael lay on his back, partially crushed against the mattress, still trying to comprehend why something heavy had just fallen on him out of nowhere in the middle of the night. His eyes were half-closed from sleep when he finally managed to focus on the figure that had fallen on top of him and Inari.

A woman.

A completely unknown woman.

She was literally leaning over them, one hand pressed against the mattress for balance while long, dark hair fell around her face in unruly waves. Her pale skin contrasted with the soft shadows of the room, and her eyes shone with a deep, dark hue that seemed to absorb the ambient light.

For a moment Kael only blinked.

His brain was still trying to process the events.

Then he noticed something else.

She was completely naked.

This made his brain finally reboot at full force.

"Who the hell are you?"

The question came out instantly, his voice still hoarse with sleep as he gently pushed the woman away to try and create some space between them.

Umbra, on the other hand, seemed far less disturbed by the situation.

She was sitting partially on Kael’s torso, one knee sunk into the mattress beside him as she observed his face with a curious and slightly assessing look, as if confirming something she already expected to find.

Her dark hair fell freely down her back and shoulders, long and thick, creating a dramatic frame around her pale face. The shadows in the room seemed to react subtly to her presence, as if slightly drawn to the newly materialized figure.

When Kael asked the question, she tilted her head slightly.

Then she raised her hand.

She pointed to herself with her thumb.

"Your wife?" She said it in a perfectly casual tone, as if she were answering something extremely obvious. Then she added, still thoughtful. "I mean... something close to that."

Her eyes scanned his face for another second. "We’ve been together for a while now, right?"

Kael simply stared at her.

His brain completely froze for a few seconds as he tried to process everything that had just happened in the last ten seconds.

An unknown woman had literally fallen from the ceiling.

Right on top of him.

Naked.

And now she was saying she was his wife.

Before he could formulate any coherent response, Inari had already sat up on the bed beside them, her red hair still slightly tousled by sleep as her eyes analyzed the newcomer with much greater attention.

Unlike Kael, Inari didn’t just seem confused.

She seemed... intrigued.

Her eyes quickly scanned the figure of the woman sitting on Kael, analyzing every detail of her presence, from how the shadows in the room seemed to react to her proximity to the strange sensation of energy emanating from her.

Then something in her expression changed.

Recognition.

Inari tilted her head slightly.

"Wow." She said that with a genuinely impressed tone. "You gained a physical body."

Umbra looked at her immediately. A small smile appeared on her lips. "Yes."

Inari rested her chin on her hand as she continued observing. "What did you do?"

Kael was still completely lost.

His eyes moved slowly between the two women while the conversation continued above him as if it were all perfectly normal.

He frowned. "Wait."

His eyes returned to the woman sitting on him. He observed her more closely now. Something about her presence seemed... familiar.

Very familiar.

The way the shadows in the room reacted to her. The strange feeling in the air. That look.

His eyes widened slowly. The pieces finally began to fall into place in his head. He looked again. Once more.

Then he spoke, still incredulous. "Umbra?"

Umbra smiled slightly wider. "Hello, Love."

Kael stood completely still for a moment. His brain clearly trying to accept the logical conclusion he had just reached.

Then he uttered a single word. "What."

His eyes scanned her figure again. Then returned to her face.

"Why." He vaguely pointed to her body. "What." Then he finally finished the sentence. "You’re naked?"

Umbra looked down for a second, as if only now realizing it.

She shrugged. "Dimensional portals are complicated with physical matter." Then she looked back at him. "Clothes didn’t pass through."

Kael was still trying to process the absurd situation before him. His eyes moved slowly from Umbra’s face to her body, then back to her face again, clearly trying to align that completely new appearance with the presence he had known within his mind for so long. Finally, he raised a hand and vaguely pointed at her, still somewhat dazed.

"And the body?" Umbra tilted her head slightly, as if the question were just another trivial curiosity.

Her eyes moved around the room until they found a faint reflection in the tall mirror leaning against the wall, the surface catching the soft morning light that streamed in through the window.

She turned her face toward the reflection... For a few seconds, she simply observed herself.

Her gaze slowly scanned her own features, analyzing each detail with the same quiet curiosity one would have when examining a newly finished work of art. Her pale skin seemed almost luminous under the dim light of the room, contrasting with the long, dark hair that fell freely down her back. There was a natural elegance to her posture, a quiet confidence that seemed to be part of Umbra’s very essence.

Then a small, satisfied smile appeared on her lips.

"Oh." She raised her chin slightly as she continued to look at her reflection. "I look so beautiful."

Her voice carried a genuinely admiring tone, as if she were evaluating a well-executed project. She ran a hand through her own hair, watching how the dark strands slid through her fingers before falling back over her shoulders.

"Great skin, charming look..." She tilted her face from side to side, clearly pleased with the result.

Then her gaze lowered... Umbra blinked. For a full second.

"Oh." She said again, this time with a slight hint of surprise.

Her eyes were now focused a little lower.

She raised one hand slightly and touched her own chest as if confirming something.

"They’ve grown too."

She said it with complete nonchalance, as if she were merely reporting an interesting observation.

Inari, who was sitting beside them on the bed, observing the whole situation with her arms resting on her knees, tilted her head slightly as she assessed the scene.

Her eyes calmly scanned Umbra... She nodded slowly. "Looks good." Silence.

Kael turned his head. Umbra turned her head. They both looked at Inari at exactly the same time.

"What?" they both said in perfect synchronicity.

Inari blinked a few times. Then she shrugged. She casually raised a hand, as if it were completely obvious.

"I appreciate beauty." She spoke naturally. "I am a goddess."

She made a small gesture towards Umbra, pointing with her index finger in a completely analytical way.

"Besides..." She tilted her head slightly as she continued analyzing. "Milky, well-proportioned..." She paused briefly. "...and with pink little tips." Inari nodded approvingly. "They’re incredibly beautiful." She gave another small shrug.

As if that perfectly concluded the matter.

Kael stared at her in silence.

Umbra too.

A few seconds passed.

Then Umbra slowly turned her head back to Inari.

"Thank you."

She said with absolute sincerity.

Inari made a small gesture with her hand.

"You’re welcome."

Kael brought one hand to his face.

He rubbed his eyes slowly.

When he lowered his hand again, he looked at the two women sitting on the bed with him.

A goddess evaluating bodies like an art critic.

And a newly materialized shadowy entity admiring its own physique.

He let out a long sigh.

"I should go back to sleep."

Umbra tilted her head slightly.

"That seems difficult now."

Kael pointed at her.

"You fell from the ceiling."

Umbra thought for a second.

"Valid point."

Then she looked around the room.

Her eyes swept over the furniture, the walls, the shadows of the environment... as if she were truly absorbing the physical space for the first time.

She took a deep breath.

There was something strangely satisfied in her expression.

Then she looked back at Kael.

"But it worked."

Kael narrowed his eyes.

"...what worked?"

Umbra smiled slightly.

"The portal."
