Supreme Heir Son-in-law-Chapter 1120 - 1119: Counterfeit
The preparations went smoother than anticipated; the next day, Lin Yiran hit the road together with Xu Ke.
Even while sitting in the car, Lin Yiran’s eyes constantly gazed at the trucks outside, as if worried that the items might fly away in front of him.
The tense look made Xu Ke feel powerless to tease; he wanted to change the atmosphere, but the other party didn’t seem in the mood.
Fortunately, the journey went smoothly without other incidents, but due to Lin Yiran’s urging, there wasn’t much rest along the way.
As a result, they arrived several hours earlier than expected, catching the receivers off guard.
Exhausted, the transportation team finally breathed a sigh of relief; they sat on the side, closing their eyes and almost falling asleep.
Lin Yiran was in charge of the cargo handover, and Xu Ke didn’t join the commotion, instead lit a cigarette and chatted with a group of people aimlessly.
Suddenly, a noisy commotion came from the exhibition hall, with questioning and reproachful voices startling everyone.
Xu Ke frowned and, with others, looked inside to find an angry, well-dressed old man yelling at Lin Yiran.
Seeing this, the transport team shrink their necks; someone whispered, "Could something have gone wrong?"
"Isn’t it normal for things to go wrong? There are all kinds of bottles and jars; bumps are bound to happen."
"Come on, these are antiques; even the cheapest Jade Pendant is said to be worth at least tens of thousands. If something goes wrong, it’ll be a big mess!"
"What’s there to be afraid of? If the sky falls, isn’t there someone taller to hold it up? Just pretend you didn’t hear anything!"
"..."
A group of people said something, then all fell to the side, playing dead. Xu Ke glanced at these idiots, his eyes darkened, and he stepped inside.
"I entrusted you with well-packaged items; look at what you’ve brought back! Do you really think I’m too old to distinguish? Tell me, where did you hide the things?"
Just as he walked in, Xu Ke heard the old man’s furious voice.
"Mr. Nie, please calm down. We haven’t touched the items since they were sealed. If any issues arise, I’ll take responsibility, but you must show me the things first!" Lin Yiran, holding his forehead, had a very solemn expression.
His words maintained considerable etiquette, trying to keep the tone peaceful!
"Fine, let me show you. A Tang Dynasty incense burner, see what you’ve brought to replace it!"
With that, the old man furiously threw the incense burner; Lin Yiran moved to dodge but didn’t budge.
Xu Ke’s eyes narrowed; he stepped forward to catch the incense burner, coldly staring at the old man, his tone chilling.
"The matter hasn’t been clarified yet; how can you be certain we are at fault?"
"Everyone saw it before sealing; there were no issues. I wrote the appraisal record myself. Along the way, only your people could have touched the incense burner. Who else could it be?"
"Don’t speak too conclusively. Who knows if you deliberately placed a fake inside, then claimed it was fake upon arrival? After all, we don’t touch the artifacts; you have the final say!"
"You..." Angered, the old man’s beard bristled, pointing at Xu Ke while trembling all over, "You’re questioning my professional skills, my integrity! Do you believe I won’t sue you for defamation?"
"Who’s defaming whom, I really can’t say." Xu Ke shrugged indifferently.
The commotion quickly drew the attention of everyone present; soon, a crowd gathered around.
Lin Yiran tugged on Xu Ke’s arm, constantly giving him signals, but Xu Ke pretended not to notice.
Yet, the gaze directed towards them made the old man’s face flush red; after all, he relied on his sharp eye and reputation for a living, and now a young man dared to publicly smear him, the rage was simply uncontrollable.
"Fine, fine, fine, let’s stop arguing. Wait for the police to arrive; let’s see how you deny then!"
The old man snorted and pushed through the crowd to leave. People from the exhibition hall soon arrived, briefly learning the context and immediately surrounded Xu Ke and Lin Yiran, not sparing the group outside playing dead.
"What’s going on?"
Coldly looking at the approaching security, Xu Ke’s face darkened.
"Sorry, due to the seriousness of the matter, we ask for your cooperation!"
"Even during a police investigation, there needs to be solid evidence; without an arrest warrant, you can only ask for cooperation and can’t restrict someone’s freedom. Do you know what you’re doing now?" Xu Ke didn’t get angry, but his eyes lost the previous warmth.
"Stop talking, cooperating won’t kill you, right?" Lin Yiran immediately leaned in to whisper in his ear, annoyed. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"I just don’t like their methods. If I were them, I’d immediately check the exhibition hall’s surveillance; if I’m not mistaken, the person shouldn’t be far away!" Xu Ke shrugged, flicked his sleeve, and didn’t resist.
He wasn’t forgiving, but he didn’t want to cause trouble for Lin Yiran. He noted this and planned to make these bastards pay back properly!
Sitting aside in silence, he was too lazy to engage with the security or the supposed manager of the hall, lounging with crossed legs and a cigarette, looking like a rogue.
The manager frowned immediately, "Smoking is prohibited inside the exhibition hall!"
"Am I smoking? By your logic, sniffing food fragrance means I’ve eaten, huh?"
Impatiently waving his hand, Xu Ke leaned against the wall, crossing his legs, and kept quiet.
The manager signaled to the security, and several immediately surrounded them, watching closely to prevent any escape.
Lin Yiran bit his lip, sat beside him, glancing at the security and then at Xu Ke, frowning tightly, hugging his knees, not knowing what he was thinking.
Not long had passed when the police arrived, immediately starting to collect evidence and questioning the transportation team members.
However, the testimonies were almost identical, putting the police in a difficult position, as the truck’s door had never been opened en route.
Investigations of the truck’s traces also confirmed this.
Seeing the worried looks of the group, Xu Ke calmly folded his arms, appearing indifferent.
The door opened again; this time, it wasn’t the police but a well-dressed middle-aged man, accompanied by the old appraiser.
"You still don’t plan to explain?"
Narrowing his eyes at Xu Ke, his face was full of hostility.
