Supreme Heir Son-in-law-Chapter 1022 - 1021: Saying One Thing, Meaning Another
Guoguo’s tone inevitably carried a hint of complaint.
In this scorching weather, they’ve been walking for so long without reaching the place. Her sister hasn’t said a word, so Guoguo couldn’t help feeling a bit annoyed.
Tangtang noticed Guoguo already sweating on her forehead, and as her elder sister, she felt quite sorry for her.
She pulled out her phone; it was already past three in the afternoon. There wasn’t any water source nearby. This area seemed to be visited by few people.
Guoguo looked around, bewildered. What’s her sister up to? Coming here, how could they uncover the truth?
This place was merely an abandoned location.
"Guoguo, do you see that abandoned building up ahead?"
"I see it, sis. What’s the problem with it? It’s just an old derelict factory, isn’t it? It doesn’t indicate anything, does it?"
Clearly, this rundown building had to hold some issues; otherwise, Tangtang wouldn’t bring her here on such a hot day.
This building was where the Su family used to manufacture products, so surely, they’ll be able to discover some clues here.
This was the main reason Tangtang brought them here.
Guoguo glanced around; there wasn’t anyone here, and weeds were overgrown, indicating that nobody had visited the place for a long time.
The sisters circled the building but found nothing suspicious. Inside the old factory building were many machines that hadn’t been used in years.
"Sis, what do you think we can find here?" Guoguo asked, puzzled, not understanding her sister’s actions.
If it weren’t for safety reasons, she wouldn’t be bothered to come here.
Now she just wanted to go home, having been away for so long, feeling a bit homesick. Especially after seeing Housekeeper Wu last night, warmth filled her heart.
"Let’s take a closer look, since we’re here, let’s not give up easily, okay? If we really find something, I’ll treat you to your favorite pickled fish."
What? Pickled fish?
Guoguo felt excited; since when did her sister get so enthused?
"Really, sis?"
"Of course it’s true. When have I ever lied to you?"
Encouraged by Tangtang, Guoguo finally began earnestly searching for clues, but something puzzled her. If the Su family experienced a major upheaval years ago, why hadn’t anyone rented these old factory buildings?
Logically, such prime manufacturing facilities should attract many willing partners.
This could’ve been a substantial income, at least for the Su family at that time. Why did they abandon such a large factory building?
"Sis, why didn’t the Su family rent out these factories back then? That would’ve been some money, and weren’t they bankrupt then? Presumably, they were quite short on funds."
Guoguo’s quiet mutterings reminded Tangtang.
Indeed, this factory lay in the suburbs, a good location for manufacturing. Why didn’t the Su family rent it out then?
Tangtang pondered deeply.
She couldn’t understand why; was there a hidden reason?
Just then, a scream came from the third floor of the factory building.
"Sis, sis, you have to see this! What is it?"
Guoguo’s face went pale, drained of color; clearly, she was scared. Tangtang followed her gaze to see, not far away, a skeletal framework.
Judging by the look, it appeared to be a woman, and she had been dead for a long time. Why didn’t anyone take care of it?
"Sis, let’s leave this place. I find it scarier than the tongzi building; we should go."
Guoguo was terrified now; she had been afraid of these things since childhood. If it weren’t for Tangtang, she would’ve run away by now.
"Guoguo, don’t you want to know who this person is? Don’t you want to understand why this factory was abandoned? Think about it, what was our purpose in coming out here?"
Despite Tangtang’s urging, Guoguo wasn’t listening, but certainly, as long as Tangtang was here, she wouldn’t go elsewhere.
Tangtang, seeing Guoguo so frightened, suggested she rest on the first floor.
However, Guoguo refused; she insisted on sticking with Tangtang, questioning how her sister had become so brave.
Apparently, in the face of family interests, a girl can stand on her own.
Honestly, Tangtang was scared too, but thinking of her daddy, and her adorable little sister, she had to take the lead as the elder sister and protect them fully.
"Alright then, just follow behind me. Don’t worry, I’ll protect you."
Guoguo nodded heavily after hearing Tangtang’s reassurance. Given Guoguo’s timid nature, pressuring her was unfair; in critical moments, protecting her was essential.
While they lingered in the stairwell, they realized this building harbored many secrets, with many things defying explanation by common sense.
This building was indeed odd.
Suddenly, the sound of a car came from outside the building. Guoguo glanced at Tangtang; her hearing had been good since childhood, and she knew someone was coming while the car was still dozens of meters away.
"Sis, people are about to arrive. Let’s go. It’s not safe here anymore."
Guoguo thought only of leaving; she didn’t want to linger in a place where someone had died. Yes, she feared the dead.
But Tangtang thought otherwise. Since they were here, they needed to figure things out before leaving; otherwise, handling the upcoming events could become tricky.
"Calm down, Guoguo. Consider this: in theory, no one should be coming to this suburban area. Now that someone’s arriving, what does that imply?"
Following her sister’s logic, it seemed these people had connections with the Su family.
If they stayed put, maybe they’d discover some earth-shattering secrets. That might very well be the case.
But if found, their lives could genuinely be in jeopardy, possibly endangering their safety.
"Sis, where should we hide then?"
Tangtang looked around; there were hiding places, but none too concealed. If they looked closely, they’d invariably find the sisters.
Aha, there it is—a water barrel, it’s a perfect cover.
"Come, Guoguo, let’s hide inside this."
What? Guoguo couldn’t believe her eyes; could they hide here?
"Hurry, Guoguo, or it’ll be too late. They’re coming fast; they’re already on the first floor."
Guoguo could vaguely hear their footsteps, and Tangtang was deeply concerned; if discovered, it could be troublesome.
