Supreme Devil Lord: I Can Refine All Energy-Chapter 62: Helpless Liam
Ten minutes later, Rosalie came out of the bathroom, looking refreshed.
"Please wait for a moment, my lord." She spoke before Eric could say anything and rushed into her room. A short while later, she returned, dressed in a fresh set of clothes—a white, full-sleeved, robe-like shirt and an ankle-length black skirt—while carrying a small bag.
"I’m ready to leave whenever you want, my lord." She said, lightly and respectfully bowing her head toward him.
Eric looked her up and down, a peculiar glint flashing in his eyes. He then stood up and nodded, "Let’s leave then."
Walking out of the house, Eric noticed a few of her neighbors standing in the street outside their houses, talking amongst themselves. When they noticed him, they flinched and quickly entered their houses, making him smile wryly.
’Do they think I’ll do something to them?’ He shook his head.
Rosalie walked out, and after casting her house a reluctant glance, she turned her head around and started following after him, though her steps were a little shaky.
When Eric noticed this, he couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows. At the speed she was walking, it would take them a lot more time to reach Liam’s house.
Rosalie noticed his expression and blushed before hurriedly saying, "D-Don’t worry, my lord. I can walk faster."
Eric glanced at the horizon and saw the sun was about to set, which meant he only had over two hours to return to the middle city checkpoint to extend his, Elena’s, and Riya’s stay. This much time was enough for him to go to Liam’s home, take them with him, and return to the middle city. So, he said, "Alright. But don’t force yourself too much."
...
Around forty minutes later, two figures, one male—who appeared at ease and was carrying a bag in his hand—and one female—whose face was covered in perspiration, seemingly due to exhaustion and discomfort—arrived in Liam’s neighborhood.
These two were none other than Eric and Rosalie.
Rosalie was looking at Eric walking in front of her with a worried look in her eyes.
Why was she worried?
Simply because she was blaming herself for causing them to take so much time to reach here. The sun had already gone down the horizon, and the sky was rapidly getting dark.
Though he hadn’t scolded her until now and had even taken the bag she was carrying after seeing she was struggling to walk, she knew he was dissatisfied or maybe even angry because they needed to reach the middle city before nightfall, but it no longer seemed possible.
However, unlike what she thought, Eric wasn’t angry at her. Of course, he would have appreciated it if she could walk a little faster, but since he was the reason why she was walking slow, he couldn’t become angry at her.
’I shouldn’t have been too rough on her.’ He sighed for the nth time before smiling wryly. Though he felt this way seeing they were going to be late, he didn’t regret being rough on her one bit because if he hadn’t vented out his emotions properly, he would be feeling miserable right now, which he didn’t want.
"Hmm?" Suddenly, he raised his brows because he saw Liam standing in front of his house, talking to two men who seemed quite overbearing from the way they were behaving.
Shua!
Because he was still quite far, he couldn’t hear what they were talking about, so he immediately increased his speed, and when he arrived within a hundred meters, he could finally hear their voices clearly.
"...We won’t leave until you pay us our credits. So, hurry and pay up. It’s been long enough." One of the two said, his voice impatient and cold.
"Uncle, Ryu. Please give me some time. I’ll definitely pay—" Liam clasped his hand in a begging gesture but was interrupted by the other man.
"Liam, we pity your situation; we really do. But... we need you to pay us back right now."
Liam’s face, which was swollen because of his broken jaw, was dark.
These two, Ryu and Shial, were his father’s acquaintances who he had borrowed over a thousand credits from a few months ago. He knew his father was working more than usual for the past few months to earn more credits to repay them, and that was why he returned home once or twice a week at most.
He had returned last night and had told them that he was short of just a hundred or so credits and should be able to pay the debt in one or two weeks. Unfortunately, he died an untimely death.
"Uncle Shial, Father had earned enough credits to pay you two back, but because he is no more, his credit card has become useless." Liam said, "And because we don’t have enough credits lying around to pay you, I need some time to earn—"
Ryu’s and Shial’s expressions became twisted upon hearing this, and hesitation and pity flashed in their eyes, but a moment later, their eyes became cold. They exchanged a glance between them before Ryu shook his head, "We don’t care about all that. We need our credits. You have one hour. If we don’t get our credits, don’t blame us for being ruthless to your family."
Liam trembled in helplessness and anger. He knew why these two were being so adamant. They had found out his family had somehow offended a warrior, who had killed his father. In their opinion, that warrior wouldn’t spare them either, so before he dealt with them, they wanted to get their credits back.
He swept a hateful glance across his neighbors, who must have informed these two about it because without anyone informing them, they wouldn’t have found out their situation that befell his family since they lived quite far away from them.
He looked at two cards, one crystal and one metal, in his hand. One was his and had only 100 credits in it, while the other that belonged to his mother, Leah, only had around 50. He was still 850 short and knew all the things combined in his house weren’t worth 850, not to mention no one would buy them even if he wanted to sell them.
"Uncles, I can only—"
"How much does he owe you two?"
Right as he was about to plead with them to take 150 credits now and give him some more time to pay the rest back, he heard a cold but very familiar voice.
"Eric..." He muttered, turning his head to the side to look at him with a complex look in his eyes.
