Chapter 667: Counter Invasion?

When Nox stepped inside the room, due to the intense bright blue light coming from the far end, it was pretty difficult to miss it.

Although he had not witnessed when the demons activated the portal, he could tell this was one of the portals due to the device just below it, powering it.

Now... he had two options.

Head inside the portal or close it down. It was a really tough decision, but at the same time, he couldn’t help but be curious about what the other side looked like.

The place where the demons came from.

There was also something that struck him as odd. Why was it that no demons were coming through this portal?

He recalled how Headmistress Bridget told him about an unending wave rushing out of the portal and attacking any human on sight like a hungry beast.

Yet even after about five minutes of looking around, there was nothing of the sort, which further made him curious about just what was on the other side.

Of course, even if he wanted to enter the portal, he couldn’t afford to leave Jared behind, so he quickly went back outside.

Jared remained in the same spot, scanning his surroundings with a cautious gleam in his eyes.

"There’s no one in there."

Suddenly, he heard a voice followed by a presence. He was slightly startled, but after recognizing the voice, he calmed down and said, "Then let’s get in then."

BANG!

Jared’s fist blurred forward and smashed violently into the door, creating a gaping hole.

Nox was slightly impressed. The green-haired boy had only used his raw strength to blast that door open after all.

As soon as Jared stepped inside, a stunned expression appeared on his face, and he staggered back slightly, his expression pale as if he had just seen a ghost.

"T-that... that is similar to the portal that appeared above the academy," he stammered.

"I figured," Nox calmly replied as he stepped in front of the portal, the blue ripple reflecting in his midnight eyes.

"But why is no demon coming through?" Jared asked in a quiet voice that could easily be mistaken for him talking to himself.

"That’s what I don’t know as well." Nox narrowed his eyes. "But there’s only one way to find out."

He didn’t need to elaborate further for Jared to understand what he was trying to say.

But was it really a good idea to go somewhere that could potentially be populated by thousands, maybe even millions, of demons?

At the same time, Jared knew very well that heading inside would not only give them more insight into the enemies, but it would also give him a chance to take revenge on behalf of his father.

Thinking of this, a new light shone in his eyes, and he locked eyes with Nox.

"All right, let’s do this."

’Before we leave, I need someone to keep guard of the portal and make sure no one disrupts it,’ Nox thought.

He heard several voices scream in his head for him to pick them, but he ignored every single one of them. He transferred himself into his taming space.

His inner subconscious roamed around the vast space before his gaze settled on the Dreadfiend Tyrant.

The towering beast sat on a stone, simply watching the others play around the taming space with a subtle frown on his face.

It had been inactive for a long time. In fact, ever since it was tamed in Tristan Kingdom, the monster had only been summoned briefly to intimidate others. It had not truly stretched its limbs in a real battle.

When Nox’s gaze landed on him, the Dreadfiend Tyrant slowly raised his head, as if sensing the call even before Nox spoke.

’It’s finally my turn, huh?’

Nox didn’t say anything. He simply waved his hand, and in a flash of blue light, the Dreadfiend Tyrant vanished from the taming space and reappeared outside, standing tall like an ancient guardian.

Jared’s eyes widened in disbelief when his gaze settled on the spectral monster with dual axes and a piercing gaze. "This beast... isn’t it the one we fought against back in Snowhelm?"

"It is," Nox replied.

Jared sucked in a deep breath. To be honest, he was very envious of the Beast Taming class. It was so bad that if he hadn’t already selected a class, he definitely would have picked that one.

Seeing the envious gleam in Jared’s eyes, Nox smirked. This was good. Now he didn’t need to market the class, all he needed to do was show off his power and spirit pets to swindle them over.

"There’s a class rewrite artifact though," Nox spoke. "Maybe after all this, you can give it a little thought."

"Sure, I’ll think about it." Jared nodded.

Some time later, the two of them stepped into the portal, their forms disappearing from view.

The Dreadfiend Tyrant stared at the portal before grunting and keeping watch with a vigilant expression on his face.

Meanwhile, on Jack and Akira’s side, they weren’t as lucky as Nox and Jared, who had entered the portal with almost no resistance.

The two were currently engaged in a grueling battle, fighting through hordes of demons while trying to make as little noise as possible.

That was easier said than done.

Jack’s lightning odachi crackled violently as he sliced through a demon’s torso, his expression calm but his eyes sharp. "Tch, they just keep coming."

Beside him was the Valkyrie princess. She spun gracefully, her radiant blades dancing like silver flashes as she cut down three more demons in a single breath.

But the demons weren’t giving them an easy time.

Dozens of smaller demons rushed at them, snarling and clawing like rabid beasts, while the larger ones, hulking and mutated, blocked their escape routes.

Jack’s lightning odachi glowed brighter as more lightning sparks danced along the blade.

"Just die already!"

He swung horizontally, sending a crackling arc of lightning that blasted through five demons at once.

Akira’s silver eyes gleamed as she leaped high into the air, twisting mid-spin and releasing a barrage of silvery blades from her twin swords.

SHING! SHING! SHING!

The demons were shredded instantly.

She landed back on the ground with a soft thud, panting, her arms on her knees. Her beautiful skin had grown pale; it was clear that the last attack had consumed a lot of energy.

"Can you walk?" Jack inquired.

"Yes, I can," she replied as she slowly straightened her back.

"Come on then, let’s head further. I’m sure the survivors ar—"

He stopped abruptly mid-sentence as he felt a powerful presence behind him. Akira did too.

The two quickly turned around, and standing a few feet from them was a red-skinned beauty, a youth with white hair, and a strange mask on his face.

"You again." Jack’s expression immediately distorted when he recognized the new visitors.
